    I played Weekend League with a bronze beast at striker and this is how it went and what I noticed.

    Let me introduce you to the man, the myth, the beast himself, Danzell Gravenberch. Most of you don't know him but he's the older brother of Ryan Gravenberch, big talent playing for Ajax.

    Danzell played for my local team as centreback a few years but we went bankrupt few months ago unfortunately. He was a fan favourite because he was a rock at the back and we called him in the Dutch Akinfenwa (man really deserves Akinfenwa body type btw). I noticed a few weeks ago he was in Fifa once again and this time as a striker for Sparta Rotterdam so I decided to try him out in Squad Battles while doing those Rijkaard objectives which turned out to be useless. I scored like 41 goals and made 30 assists with him in squad battles to show my friends he is the goat lol. And now a few weeks later, I wanted to test my luck and try him out in the weekend league. I'm not an amazing Fifa player, my highest finish ever was Elite 2 back in Fifa 17 and I've been a consistent Gold 1 finisher in recent years with my best finish this year being 20-6.

    I started off pretty decent in the weekend league actually, banging in goals left, right and center with Danzell and picking up some match balls along the way as well. Ended friday on a 8-2 and the day after I closed the day off on 14-4. Started today with a win and a loss so I was 15-5 after 20 games.

    Funnily enough, this is most of the times the record I have after 20 games. Even though I was using a bronze striker I still had the same record I have with an amazing team after 20 games. I was using the same keeper I usually use in WL but for one reason or another I felt like he was making more, much more saves than usual with my team rating being lower due to the bronze player. I felt like my keeper was compensating for the lack of finishing up front, and this is something very interesting in my opinion due to "scripting accusations" and "handicaps". Anyway moving on, my last 10 games are always the hardest and having to play with a bronze striker didn't really help but even with his 45 stamina, I never took him off the pitch. I was like 17-8 before losing another 2 matches on the bounce which left me with 3 matches remaining and 3 to win to finish Gold 1, my usual rank. I didn't believe in it because when I have to win all my remaining games, I never play because I seriously can't be asked but this week I made an exception. And I won 2 games in a row which set me at 19-10 and 1 game remaining. I ended up losing 5-3 unfortunately but even though I "choked", I don't consider this as a choke but more as an accomplishment. I'm not a great fifa player so I would've been happy with a gold 3 finish with my man Danzell Gravenberch.

    The team I used

    Danzell Gravenberch scored 44 goals and assited another 13 in 30 matches. Some bangers, some penalties, some headers and mostly tap ins.

    My dream is that he would get some sort of special card this year, e.g.: a level 15 storyline, milestone player or just some new promo where they turn bronzes into beast goldens? And even though he's only a bronze, I'm seriously considering just building a god team around him and going down the route that Mario Gomez guy took last year and play with my man Danzell for the rest of the year.

    PSA - The game is not against you

    I've been a member of this subreddit for a while now and whilst there is some excellent content, both detailed and amusing, it's become increasingly more 'toxic' and full of people moaning about scripting, DDA etc.

    Now don't get me wrong, I get incredibly frustrated at this game at times and I do not think it's perfect (far from it actually) but I just wanted to highlight below some of the comments and myths that are posted here on a daily basis.

    Apologies if this seems like I'm being too blunt in the below, and I must point out these are simply my opinions, but some people need to have their heads wobbled!

    ''Normally I finish G1/E3 but this weekend 'feels different' and I'm 8-10.. ''

    - Aka, blaming the game for poor performance in the WL.

    Look, FIFA is an inconsistent game and we all know by now that there is an element of RNG present. However, the WL is played across 30 games. That is more than enough time for these random elements to average out, both for and against you, and ultimately you will finish in the correct rank 9/10 times based on your ability & tactics.

    I'm a Div 1 player and consistently finish 20-22 wins in G1 if I play all 30 of my games. I sometimes finish at G3 if I don't have the time at the weekend but no matter my early record (I've been 16-2 before and also 10-8) I always finish G1 if I play all my games. EA do mess up matchmaking now and again, you just need to look at the champions channel to see that, but if we're being honest ELO works.

    Just look at the pros and YTs, they consistently finish in the same rank every week because that is what is meant to happen! To move up rankings you need to get better at the game. I've accepted I'm not an Elite player (yet) and I've been trying out different tactics and players (this week u/Wahoos22's 352) to try and improve my game. You need to be realistic with your expectations, if you managed to sneak a G2 once but are a G3 player 9/10 times then it's unlikely you'll achieve that again if you don't change something!

    I'd say the only exception to this is your connection. This makes a huge difference and I will fully admit I was unable to achieve G1 until I set up a wired connection which was a game changer for me.

    ''Auto-blocking is overpowered, it needs nerfed''

    Yes, it is overpowered. The amount of times I've celebrated too early only to have Varane do a backwards 270 degree scorpion kick to deflect a finesse destined for the corner is almost uncountable.

    It can seem like the game is against you but do you remember that time Gomez flew 5m across the ground to deny your opponent's Mbappe? Do you remember that time VVD glitched through the opponents forward to block a shot before the button was even pressed? No, you don't.

    You only remember the times it goes against you. It is the same game for everyone, we've all had plenty of these moments both for and against us and you need to remember that. You also need to consider how many goals would be scored in this game if auto-blocking wasn't overpowered..

    Yes, so am I. But firstly you need to ask yourself, are they actually playing on drop back? If you're a possession based player and consistently have 60%+ then you're going to be playing through 8/9 opposition players most of the time as you're not countering and you are giving the opposition the opportunity to get players behind the ball. This happens in real life too, Liverpool score most of their goals by pressing high up the pitch / countering quickly before their opposition can set up defensively. They don't score many through intricate play and breaking them down, that style is more suited to Manchester City for example.

    Secondly, I personally hate the 4231 drop back META and I think EA probably need to do something to fix it but at the end of the day I can't blame people for playing it. If someone wants to play that way then that's fine but I'd rather enjoy my time (I play this game for fun, not false hope at rewards) and try and play an attacking brand of football. I rarely have more than 40% possession in the WL or Div 1 but I usually have double the amount of shots of my opposition as I like to get the ball up quickly to my strikers to try and score.

    In summary, be annoyed at EA for the meta not the players. But bear in mind that there's always going to be a meta formation or player. It's generally that way in most games. Also, people are sheep it's in our nature. YTs consistently push the 4231 formation so if you're looking for someone else to blame..

    Yes, pace is overpowered and yes players like Kane, Lewa and even Messi aren't as good on the game as they should be. It has been that way for years and I don't agree with it, equally though how would they fix it?

    Also similar to tactics etc. if people want to abuse pace to win then that's fine. If people want to abuse skills and have spent ages learning them, good for them!

    I personally use 3/4 skill moves and that's it. I know how to do some of the complicated ones but I find it hard to implement them in game as it takes a lot of time and effort. Respect to anyone that has spent the time mastering them, nothing a slide tackle can't stop however..

    This I can sympathise with, especially those who grind out Elite and get 3 TOTW discards and no usable reds. However, again it is the same for everyone and you know (in theory) the low odds of rewards when you play these modes.

    G3 is not more 'OP' than G1, you get 6 picks compared to 8. The reason G3 seems 'OP' is the majority if players get this rank i.e. 2000 people get G3, 20 people got Mane (1%) compared to 500 people getting G1 and 10 people getting Mane (5%) and subsequently more people post about their G3 rewards on here. Therefore G3 seems better even though you could be 5x more likely to pack Mane at G1 (all figures made up by the way, just an example).

    Furthermore, if pack weight was increased what would happen? The market would crash? Everyone would be running 'OP Meta' squads? We'd have even more people moaning on here!

    I've played FUT since 2011 and if there's one thing I've learnt is you're never fully satisfied with your squad. I've packed Ronaldo, Neymar, Messi and even an Icon in some years but others I've packed nothing. Even if you have coins you're always looking to improve, if anything I've probably played and enjoyed FIFA more the years I've packed nothing as it has forced me to try out different players and systems to compete against the better teams. Last year I had the best luck I've ever had yet I probably stopped the earliest because I was using the same team most weeks and lost interest.

    In summary, if you play this game purely for rewards then you'll likely be disappointed.

    ''I DCed because of EA, cost me G3/G2 etc.''

    Again I can sympathise, the servers aren't good enough especially at peak times.

    However, I know it's not always that easy and we shouldn't just 'accept' it but if you're worried about DCs at peak times then don't play then. I know not everyone has that luxury but you won't find me near FIFA at a weekend between 5-7pm because it's not enjoyable. I'll also add that I've not DCed from any Ultimate Team game this year and I don't have an amazing internet connection..

    Again I'd like to add that if the game is lagging for you at a peak time, it's probably the same for your opponent.

    I could go on but I think the post is long enough, thanks for reading all of this if you made it this far. I'm not annoyed or trying to moan at the community I just think we all need to take a step back and remember that it's just an imperfect game. I hope, but doubt, EA will improve the game over time but every year that you buy this game, you're cementing that they can continue on the path that they're on, I include myself in that!

    TL:DR; If you don't like the game, don't play it. Try and change your mentality and manage your expectations and you'll feel much better for it!

    You are naïve to think EA doesn't try and influence game outcomes and consumer spending habitats

    Seriously, bear with me for a sec.

    EA are a giant software company with no competition, running an online casino targeted primarily at children. Why should we believe that they aren't doing everything they can with analytics to maximize there profits (on a game that already has an obscene profit margin year-in and year-out because it is commercially designed that way)?

    ​

    They use your data nefariously (just like Facebook, Apple, etc.) to influence how you spend your time and money.

    Seriously, think about it.:

    1. They log all of our playtime, menu habits, and market spending data.
    2. We know they already use this data (and they have years worth of it) for determining when they time SBCs and pack promos

    They give fuck all about ethics, they just want your money. FUT is an online casino which doesn't have to follow the laws of "traditional" online casinos.

    Would anyone really be surprised if we found out they have a program which automatically adjusts in-game sliders in order to influence a desired outcome that increases the chances of more playtime and money overall?

    I'm of not saying that the game is totally scripted and that these elements can't be overcome, of course not, that's why we have people who can go undefeated in WL. But I think they do adjust game elements to influence game outcomes in order to try and manipulate player behavior.

    Verratti is one of the most confusing cards in FIFA 21

    He is a footballer with the height of 5 ft 5 (165cm) so you would think he is fast. But he has 64 pace. He has excellent dribbling stats (all in the 90's except reactions being 87) and decent passing stats. This would make you think he would be perfect for the CAM position, but then when you look at his workrates being medium attack/high defensive. Eh??

    This leaves you scratching your head because his defensive stats aren't anything to celebrate (his highest stat being interceptions at 85). His physical stats are also poor, so you can't play him as a box to box midfielder.

    So what is his ideal position? It is definitely not CDM, he doesn't have the pace nor height to fight with others. You can play him in CAM, but his workrates tell you he isn't suited in that position. Maybe as a defensive CM?

    Having to use a 77 max rated squad for the Bellerin objective sans bronze benching has been a delight. I'm getting to use players like Winks, Mctominay, the Ox that would otherwise never get a look in. Similarly silver lounge is a blast, I've been able to put together the starting xi of my hometown team and actually compete with them.

    It's helped me get back in touch with what FIFA is all about, I think the hyper competitive meat grind of weekend league coupled with inconsistent outcomes can drive players close to insanity at times and sap their enjoyment of the game.

    Don't get me wrong, I still have other huge misgivings with this year's FIFA (still much to be desired as a competitive game, SBC rewards have dipped markedly and shamelessly) but the friendly lounges are terrific and will keep me engaged and happy for the game cycle

    Elite 1 Weekend League Review | Using Fully Untradeable 352 MLS Hybrid

    Your favorite meta-hating 352 user is back again. But this time, with a weekend league review! I finished Elite 1 (27-3) and -- at the time of writing this review -- I am ranked 113th in the Americas.

    Background

    I'm that 352 guide guy who wrote that guide.

    So, last weekend I was 23-2. I was pretty content with just stopping at Elite 3 (Elite 2 has the same rewards except for coins as Elite 3) as the likelihood that I win 4 of 5 games on a Sunday night is rather low. With the rumored pre-black-friday crash impending, I decided to sell of my entire team (click here to see what that team was) and play out the remaining 5 games with a hybrid squad featuring some MLS and American cards. I won 4 out of 5 and finished Elite 1.

    Then, with the market down and the possible actual black friday crash coming up, I decided not to rebuy a good team and stick with my MLS and American card team. My rationale for this was simply that if I could win 80% at the +15 ELO level, I should be able to win more than 80% of a full 30 game slate. (80% of 30 is 24 wins, or 1 shy of Elite 2.)

    The Team and Subs

    The team is a 352, *of course*.

    Rationales

    • Obviously I'm using a fully untradeable team so I had to set it up in a way that got me the most chem possible. This resulted in Dembele on 8 chem, Hazard on 7 chem, and Neuer on 5 chem.
      • I chose to use Neuer on 5 chem over other options. I could have used either an American or any MLS keeper on 10 chem. Zack Steffen was the best option here. On 10 chem with the chemistry stat boosts, Steffen doesn't look that great. So then it was a decision of "who is the best keeper I have in the club?" I have Neuer.
      • I did notice that Neuer was noticeably worse on 5 chem than on his usual 10 chem, but that he was still very good in goal. I felt *safe* with him between the posts.
    • Sub philosophy
      • I cover this in my guide (linked above) but used an amended substitution philosophy this weekend.
      • At half time, I subbed of Saul and my wide mids but only used two subs to do so. I moved Lima centrally to partner with Llorente and subbed off Dest and Saul for Atal and either Corona or Hakimi.
      • Around the 75th minute, I would bring on either Klostermann or Depay depending on how the game was going.

    I was just trying to have fun with it. The only reason I had these recorded was because I was a tad pissed off. I felt that the game was being scripted against me. I don't necessarily believe in the conspiracy theories, but EA does have a US patent for the technology for DDA....

    I'm not a content creator or anything like that. These are just raw clips using the PS4's share button.

    Player Reviews

    Before I get into the reviews, I want to make it clear that I can't stand how some people rank players. Everyone gives every card they like a 9.69 out of 10. That's meaningless and a fake quantitative rating that attempts to quantify their qualitative experience with a card. I'm not going to lie to y'all with fake ratings. I'll just tell you what I thought of each card I used and why I did or did not like it overall.

    • Borjan
      • His sprint speed is in the 70s. His shooting and dribbling need a bit of a boost. Since we can only boost two of those three at once, I decided to play Borjan at Striker with a Finisher. He was a brilliant creator and space creator. His dribbling is very smooth, but could be better. He feels like Mertens or a slower Mane on the ball but isn't as good as the likes of Messi or Neymar. He feels surprisingly strong, probably owing to his high balance and agility. His weak foot feels like 5 star on power shots and 3 star on finesse shots. I would have preferred for it to feel like a true 4 start on both.
      • He is a cheap Messi. They are both super short and agile.
    • Dembele
      • Not much to say here. We all know how cracked Dembele is. His stamina leaves a lot to be desired but he has "the sticky" so his stamina is ignorable. I don't think there is a better card in the game for under 20k in terms of value for coin.
      • He is the cheap Neymar. Double 5 star. *duh*
    • Hazard
      • I will start this off by saying that Hazard is the most inconsistent card I have used this year. There were games where he could not finish from 12 yards on his strong foot and there were games where I banged in weak foot finesse shots from 25 yards. His dribbling does not feel like 92, more like 88 or 89. When he's in form, he's a top tier card. When he's off, he feels like a silver. I really don't want to call him a fraud, but he can be pretty fraudulent.
      • Considering that he is a LW in La Liga, Dembele is better for cheaper.
    • Lima
      • He is the MVP of the squad. He is a monster in the midfield and the LM spot. He has 95 sprint speed as a base stat. High aggression means he wins the majority of those 50/50 balls. I loved using him because I started him out wide, then moved him central at half time. His high pace coupled with good defending stats with the right chem style earned him the Captain's armband.
      • I will likely get flak for this one, but he is better than Kante.
    • Dest
      • The worst player in the squad and it should come as no surprise. While he has good pace and is double 4 star, the rest of his stats are in the 60s and 70s. Even with the proper chem style, he was a liability at RM. At the start of matches, he wasn't that bad. As the match went on and he got tired, his lower stats started to bleed through. That is why I would sub him off at half time for Atal or Hakimi.
      • I used him solely to get chem between the MLS and La Liga. *I'm hoping for a future stars card tho*
    • Llorente
      • Clunky, jack of all trades type of player. I played him at CB when I got a red and didn't have any subs left. He's not great nor poor.
      • For around 1k, there's no better utility player.
    • Saul
      • Saul surprised me. I used him because he was untradable and because I wanted to have Borjan on 10 chem. I figured he would suck. But he was a rock. He's not going to catch up to any attackers, but he was *always* in position. I would sub him off at half time and replace him with Lima at CDM.
      • Do not buy him unless you need him for chem. Llorente is better and cheaper.
    • Opara
      • The pace, the agility, the defending, the physical, the height. The man is the perfect CB. The only complaint I have about him is his weak foot and his available links.
      • I will likely get flak for this one as well, but he is better than Varane.
    • Long
      • A very clunky player with surprising speed. He is that rock at the back that you can trust to clean up anything the rest of your defense misses. His heading is unreal, CR7 level stuff. I don't think he lost a header the entire weekend. He does seem to give away fouls a lot. He's got the physicality of VVD but doesn't seem to have that whole "immune to giving away fouls" thing that Varane and VVD have.
      • Reminds me of VVD and Koulibaly
    • Valverde
      • Similar to Llorente, he is the jack of all trades type of player. I ran him at LCB all weekend and he was very good there. His lack of agility doesn't seem to show through as a CB. In fact, as a CB, he seems very agile.
      • A cheap Varane.
    • Neuer
      • He is a keeper. Keepers are wild.

    Closing Thoughts

    We have had 6 weekend leagues thus far and I have finished Elite 2 or better in all 6 of them. I had the most fun this weekend league. I just didn't take it that seriously at all and then suddenly I was 21-1. I had a lot of fun using the MLS cards just because I didn't come up against a single other player using a team anything remotely similar to what I was using.

    I firmly believe that the most important part of your team is your midfield. I had a very low-key midfield that was actually very overpowered after the half-time subs (Atal, Lima, Llorente, Hakimi) and people underestimated that. I was able to exploit my opponents throughout the midfield portion of the game as they spent all their coins on attackers and that Mendy, Varane, Gomez, and Walker defense that is used in every single team.

    You can use fun cards and still be competitive. I am the proof of that. Happy to answer any questions you might have!

    Cutting in from the wing and playing a pass is back to being as OP as it was in 20.

    Playing D1 and above and literally face the same tactics and teams everywhere. Play a through ball to the wings past your fullback, hope for a rebound on the tackle out wide, press A/X and the ball will go directly to your striker waiting in the box.

    Defensive AI Is basically non existent when the ball is passed from the outside of the box on the left or right. Your defender will literally ball watch rather than intercept.

    To add to that, if the winger gets past your fullback with their 99 speed, the fullback will LITERALLY STOP CHASING the attacker. They will just stand still leaving you with less and less options on the box. Just amazing game design all around.
