DELAY. This is the worst delay I've ever experienced on a fifa game.

Passing - shit Tackling - shit Player switching - doesn't work Pace - what pace? Through balls - I've got a greater chance of winning the fucking lottery than the ball actually going to player it's aimed at. Oh and the game insists on matching me against dutchies that live next to the sever and can play skill move fc whilst my player stands still. Seriously can't believe I paid 60 quid for this broken mess of shite.

I played 30 Weekend League games using only Rangers players (FUT Champs Review)

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 02:58 PM PST

    INTRO

To preface this review, I am a Division 1 player who usually finishes Gold 1 or 2 in Weekend League. I enjoyed using a very similar team in Silver Lounge, so I thought I'd give it a try in FUT Champs with IF Goldson and IF Tavernier added to the starting XI. In-game I used 4-3-2-1 for my balanced, attacking and ultra-attacking presets, while I used 4-2-3-1 wide for my defensive and ultra-defensive presets. All of the games were played on Friday evening / the early hours of Saturday morning.

    CUSTOM TACTICS

Most of the time I used my attacking preset, which has the following instructions:

    Formation: 4-3-2-1

Defensive Style: Press after possession loss

    Width & Depth: 5

    Offensive Style: Balanced

    Width & Depth: 5

    Corners & Free Kicks: 3

Kent & Jones: Get in behind

    Jack: Stay back while attacking

    Hagi: Get forward

    Tavernier: Join the attack

    Barisic: Stay back while attacking

    THE TEAM

    RECORD

My record after 30 games was 16-14, narrowly missing a Gold 2 finish on the last game. Overall the team was extremely fun to attack with and terrifying to defend with. I scored an average of ~4 goals per game and conceded a fuckton too. Ryan Kent was the star of the team, while Allan McGregor was by far the worst player (although that's expected for a silver goalkeeper).

    STATS

    Games Played Goals Assists
    Ryan Kent 30 49 13
    Jermain Defoe 30 36 27
    Jordan Jones 30 16 17
    Joe Aribo 30 3 12
    Ryan Jack 30 0 9
    Ianis Hagi 30 8 16
    Borna Barisic 30 1 2
    Nikola Katic 30 0 1
    Connor Goldson 30 2 1
    James Tavernier 30 6 6
    Allan McGregor 30 0 0
    Alfredo Morelos 11 9 6

    PLAYER RATINGS

    Ryan Kent – 10/10

He felt just like his RTTF card last year and was my top scorer of the weekend with 49 goals. I used the hunter chem style on him, so he outpaced most defenders and finished most of his chances in the box. He definitely outperformed the stats on his card, and I'd say his 5* weak foot was his biggest strength. His best game was in an 8-2 win, in which he scored 5 goals. He also scored my best goal of the weekend (shown below).

    https://reddit.com/link/jub5ba/video/s9za3fn0baz51/player

    Jermain Defoe – 9/10

I opted to use Defoe as my starter ahead of Morelos due to his great finishing, and I did not regret it. Using the finisher chem style, he has 96 finishing, 91 shot power, 90 volleys, 87 agility, 92 balance, 88 dribbling and 82 composure which is insane for a silver card. He was an absolute monster, finishing almost every chance when he got space inside the box. His passing was pretty decent too, fetching him 27 assists. His main weakness was obviously his pace.

    Jordan Jones – 8/10

He was really solid, scoring or setting up a combined 33 goals. He was usually quite reliable in front of goal, but he did miss a few sitters. Overall he didn't stand out much compared to Defoe and Kent.

    Joe Aribo – 7/10

He was fine. He got the odd goal or assist and that was enough for me.

    Ryan Jack – 9/10

Jack was the biggest surprise of the team. Using the shadow chem style, he was able to dominate the opposition's forwards and midfielders. He filled the midfield destroyer role excellently, and his passing wasn't bad either.

    Ianis Hagi – 8/10

Hagi was very solid all around. He was relatively fast, one of the best dribblers in the team, and he popped up with a few crucial goals and assists. I can't complain at all.

    Borna Barisic – 7.1/10

He was fairly solid as a defender, making good tackles and bodying attackers. His pace really lets him down though and led to a few goals being conceded. He gets a bonus 0.1 to his rating for scoring a great curler from outside the box on his weak foot.

    Nikola Katic – 7/10

Like Barisic, he made lots of good tackles but was ultimately let down by his pace.

    IF Connor Goldson – 8/10

He was really good and definitely saved my arse a few times. He was able to stop most pacey attackers with the shadow chem style, he was plenty strong, and he blocked lots of shots. Joe Gomez-lite.

    IF James Tavernier – 8.5/10

I had him set to get forward from the full-back position and his overlaps really added another dimension to my attack, although he did get caught out on the counter occasionally. He was solid defensively thanks to his pace, and his crossing was fantastic. He scored a couple of penalties and was my best option on set pieces.

    Shagger – 2/10

If you think gold goalkeepers are bad, try using a silver one. He's fine in Silver Lounge, but against gold players he let in nearly every shot. The few shots that he did save were usually scored on the rebound. As soon as my opponents realised that he's fucking shit, they started to shoot more often from any angle because they knew it had a 90% chance of going in. He had several games where he didn't save a single shot, and if I had a decent keeper like Lloris or Ter Stegen playing I would have probably won about 5 or 6 of the games that I lost.

    Alfredo Morelos – 8/10

He was a good option to have on the bench for when Defoe wasn't quite working against certain opponents due to his pace and low physical stats. I usually brought him on when Defoe's old man legs got tired and the game was tight. He had very good finishing but didn't stand out in any other areas.

    OBSERVATIONS

    • I struggled the most against high-pressure tactics as my players had pretty poor passing. So if you face a similar team, try pressing the shit out of them.
    • I also conceded a lot of late goals (including a 90th minute equaliser in my last game, which I lost in extra time to deny me Gold 2). This was probably at least partly due to silver players having poor stamina.
    • I feel like I was ranked up against people of a lower skill level than the people I usually face in Weekend League, although Shagger's goalkeeping compensated for my opponents.
    • I faced a lot less expensive meta players, playing against Neymar once and Mbappe twice (on loan). Varane was only in about 1/3 of the teams I faced. Last weekend almost every single team I faced had Varane, and around half had either Neymar or Mbappe.
    • I didn't face as many people who spam skill moves, which I'm thankful for as my defenders were probably a bit too stiff to handle that style of play.
    • I also noticed that people were much more reluctant to forfeit when they were 3, 4 or even 5 goals down against me. This could be down to playing most of my games on Friday so people didn't want to lose rivals points, or maybe they just felt that they could come back against a silver team.
    • Before the weekend I was expecting to receive a lot of PTSD-fuelled hate messages due to using Ryan Kent, but I only received 5 messages (all of them friendly!). Maybe there is some hope for the FIFA community?

    CONCLUSION

This team was really fun to use, and I'll definitely play some more FUT Champs with it in the future, perhaps when Rangers get more special cards (hopefully an in-form Shagger that can actually save a shot). If you're thinking of trying something similar, I'd say go for it – you'll probably do a lot better than you expect and, most importantly, it'll be a lot of fun. Cheers for reading if you got this far, this review ended up being way longer than I thought it would.

    Results of 10 TOTW Upgrade

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 12:46 PM PST

When the TOTW pack news was leaked I prepared a little to craft some packs, hoping for something good.

Here's my results for 10 SBC pack (value: 15k each sbc, 150k total)
    - Orsic 81 x2
    - Joaquin 83 x2
    - Ward-Prowse 82
    - Giroud 82
    - Maehle 81
    - Sergio Santos 76
    - Lees-Melou 82
    - Da Silva 81

Not a single 84+ in 10 sbcs... After the 5-6th I had the "good" idea to continue untill the first 84+, even if it was an SBC fodder, just for the little "satisfaction" to see a walkout...

Guys, my suggestion for you is to not try this SBC (mainly if you don't have coins to waste) because right now I used too many cards but even so I still have the desire to see at least 1 walkout (so I'm probably goint to try at least a few more before the sbc expires)...

Anyone find that the referees give penalties for literally nothing?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 04:08 PM PST

Genuinely, sometimes I've merely tickled the opponent in the box (and received a tickling), and the ref has seen right to point straight to the penalty spot. The games gone soft.

WL is supposed to be the ‘competitive mode’ and yet there’s so much not in the control of the players

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 01:01 PM PST

Passing: Correctly directed and timed passes are botched

Rebounds: Keepers magically push the ball to the nearest opposing striker, no matter where he's positioned

Servers: Getting kicked from matches because of EA servers, and get a loss

Lack of Refereeing: Slide tackle from behind on the last man is not even a booking, and yet winning the ball in the box leads to penalties

AI defending: AI defenders in the box will unrealistically auto block the cleanest of shots. Outside the box, the defenders will lunge into tackles even if the opponent is 10-20 yards away, letting him through on goal

Team switching off: Why is that there are phases of the game where everyone just switches off?

Defenders with 90+ pace can't catch up to strikers, midfielders with 90+ dribbling can't turn without giving the ball away, forwards with 90+ finishing and composure missing open goals, and keepers turning into statues for the weakest of shots

These aren't at the end of games (if stamina is down), this will happen in phases at any point in the game, sometimes for 15 mins, a half or even the whole game

You'd think that being the competitive mode, WL would have minimum non-user factors determining the outcome of the game, but here we are.

    Clear penalty, shocking challenge

I think Conte is missing his playing days. (Featuring Mick McCarthy's ghost)

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 12:00 PM PST

I’m fed up of giving away penalties for absolutely nothing and my opponent getting away with murder

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 07:33 AM PST

As per the title. I make a completely fine challenge or just jockey in the box and the opponent gets a penalty even though they've still got possession and not even go to ground. Meanwhile the they can go 2 footed sliding in to half my team, not even winning the ball and there isn't even a foul.

    Joke.
