    My 1st FIFA 20 Weekend League (aged 48)

    Me: I live with my girlfriend and cat. I work offshore so missed the first month of FIFA20. In Rivals I'm currently languishing in Div 8 partly because I'm crap at the game and partly because I've been grinding through all the icon challenges/ scream Dzeko etc.

    My Team: starts 451 and switches to 4231 in game. Allan and Nainggolan as CDMs with the 3 CAMs Mertens, IF Gomes and Douglas Costa. Dzeko up front.

    This Weekend League my plan was just split the 30 games evenly over the 3 days and hopefully get the 9 wins needed for that last icon swap cards. I'm not too fussed about getting beaten by someone better then me as hopefully this just means the next game will be a bit easier.

    Seeing as I'm still in Div 8 I thought I might be in for a shock. Got off to a pretty poor start: 1 win and 4 losses. Can't seem to cope with pacy players just running through my team. Close eyes, deep breath, compose myself, don't watch the silly celebration, stroke cat, open eyes, kick off again. I didn't change anything but the seeding might have helped as I won the next 4 games to get to 5-5.

    On Saturday the gameplay was pretty sluggish. Finished the day on 9-11. Think I lost at least 5 goals where my defenders would tackle the ball, then just do nothing as the opponent's striker would snatch it back and shoot. Infuriating. Not sure if it's old age or crap gameplay but it's annoying as hell.

    Had a crazy game where my opponent went 3-0 up, I didn't quit (I never do) and managed to get to 4-3, only to lose 4-5 with him scoring 2 goals in the last couple of minutes.

    Sunday started well with 4 goals from the legendary Scream Dzeko in a 6-1 win, then I won the next 2 games. Got to 14-12, so needed 3 wins from the last 4 for Gold 2. Lost both games to better players so was happy to end 14-14 and Gold 3.

    Star player was scream Dzeko with 25 goals and 12 assists. Supersub Scream Ozil impressed with 5 goals and 6 assists seeing as he only came on for the last 20 mins or so. Mertens with 16 goals and 13 assists impressed too. Douglas Costa (5g 6as) and Papu Gomez (7g 6 as) didn't do much as my wider CAMS, but maybe this just means my central CAMS and striker get most of my goals?

    Hopefully will get a bit or luck with those red picks...

    So, did any other 40+ year olds play this weekend league?

    The first owned and the new Politano challenges are the most fun I've had in rivals

    What is the point of playing Rivals if you're not doing a challenge? I find I get bored and who really cares what division you are in...

    But when we have these challenges I have a purpose and desire to win. It makes the game more engaging and it's also a lot of fun to play with different squads instead of what is just meta.

    Do you share the same opinion?

    I know, I know. This is another "EA BAD" post.

    This game obviously has flaws. Some more apparent than others.

    And,

    Tbh it doesn't bother me THAT much. I still have a lot fun playing for the most part.

    I'm not an elite player. I'm in Div 4/5. So maybe a little above average? (I'm not too sure what an average player would be, so please don't roast me on that). But I've been playing since Fifa 02 and all the big problems with the game as it has progressed over the years really never bothered me for the most part. I just see it as a flaw and try and play around it.

    With that being said,

    Fouls are COMPLETELY broken this year. I'm getting dropped in the box, dropped on through balls, dropped everywhere. No calls. Yet I'll get a free kick at the top of the box, or a pen, and think "where the fuck was I fouled?". It goes the other way as well. I'll foul my opponent and think "How did He not get a call?".

    I've never been frustrated by the flaws in Fifa, but see them as more of a challenge to work around. But this flaw has me extremely frustrated.

    Does anyone else experience this? I've seen very little posted about it. Though I also don't come to this subreddit that frequently, I'd expect to at least see a few posts about it.

    How to score more penalties

    Hey, I discovered a good way of taking penalties and since using this technique I scored a way more penalties than I did before. The trick is simple, as soon as you get the penalty hold the left analog stick towards the direction you want to shoot - by doing this your player won't move their head after the replay and your opponent will think that you're going down the middle.

    Things to avoid: *Moving the left analog after the replay ended

    If you do it afterwards your player's head will move therefore alerting your opponent of your intention.

    **Don't forget this trick only boosts your chances of scoring, it doesn't guarantee a goal everytime - your opponent might get lucky.
