    r/FIFA's 2021 Content Voting Megathread

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 08:03 AM PST

As we usually do every year, it is once again time to vote on content that should be allowed and content that should not be allowed within our sub.

A lot of times, a vote is not necessary, like when we announced that Icon SBC Pulls were not going to be allowed outside a megathread last month. But sometimes, we need your help to help us decide on topics you think don't add anything new to the sub and therefore should be removed.

Contrary to popular belief, r/FIFA moderators enforce rules voted on by the community and not just because we want to.

Great examples of this would be like when the community decided to temporarily get rid of the Daily Squad Thread and allow individual squad posts to be posted in the sub only to then revert the rule change in less than 48 hours because the sub got flooded with people flexing their squads and nothing else but squad posts. The community quickly voiced their opinion in individual posts and modmails that the Daily Squad Thread was a necessary thing and it needed to be back.

A second example of this would be back when r/FIFA allowed memes to be posted during "Meme Monday" only to go back to not allowing them within just a couple of weeks due to the amount of very low quality/low effort memes the community was posting.

With that in mind....here are our voting polls:

    • Concept Cards Posts (someone creating a card that doesn't or will never exist, example, Icon CR7 or some local hometown hero no one knows about)

    • Card Predictions (Neymar had a great game this weekend, this is how his IF might look or here's my prediction for Futue Stars Team #2)

    • Card Sniping (I sniped Prime Icon R9 for 200k!)

    • Weekend League Reviews/Finishes (Note: we currently only allow WL reviews when a post actually has text and OP is including tactics or tips on gameplay. If it's just a picture of an app showing WL record, we are removing them)

    • Past & Present Squads (Here's the 48th Manchester United Past & Present Squad post)

    • XBL/PSN Messages (the classic conversation of someone being toxic/asking for free wins/etc)

On a separate but similar topic, we need your help on a new rule we want to implement related to the quality of the videos (and pictures) that are posted in the sub. Should we allow posts of gameplay videos/goals that consist of someone recording their tv screen/monitor? (that usually look far away and honestly like shit)

Other constantly repeated posts that are already getting automatically removed can be found in the r/FIFA Wiki

We will be pinning this thread a few times for at least 1-2 weeks and will let you all know before voting ends.

I’ve finally realised why this game is so frustrating.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 05:33 PM PST

The background player stats don't actually mean anything in terms of how the cards play visually, but they massively help functionally.

For example, TOTY Lewa, his shots aren't harder, don't curve more or aren't more accurate. The keeper just won't save them. I've conceded goals to him recently right down the middle and they just fall down.

Jumping? Ronaldo doesn't jump any higher than any bronze striker visually, but his high jumping stat means my defender won't jump.

Interceptions/positioning? Kante isn't doing anything different, the game just passes it too him no matter what input every now and then.

Attacking positioning? Just means keeper rebounds are programmed to go to that player and not the defender.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 10:38 AM PST

IMO, the fact that some players that didn't achieve anything in football are more useful than icons that actually marked the history of this sport is heartbroken. They use bullshit stats such as agility, balance, composure and stamina to make them bad.

TEAM USA ROAD TO GLORY WEEKEND LEAGUE RECAP - NOW FEATURES STRIPES AND STARS

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 09:56 AM PST

What's up guys? Been a minute. That Pulisic grind cost me hours, days and my first born, but here we are with the AMERICAN DREAM TEAM featuring TWO future stars. Now, I know what you're thinking – as back-to-back World War champs, inventors of the internet and freedom, and the future 2022, 2026, and 2030 world cup winners, shouldn't TEAM USA have gotten all of the future stars? Where was Josh "Super" Sargent? Timothy "This is the" Weah? Brendan "A-A-RON"son? Freddy "there's still time" Adu? Matthew "Bundesliga Rookie of the Month and not in the game" Hoppe?

But we have to be respectful of EA's decision to include other countries. After all, we wouldn't want the rest of the world to feel resentful towards America, where our freedom is so unmatched that we don't even convict former felons in chief.

As a reminder, our goal is to hit ELITE 3 using the USA or all-US with an Operation Paperclip goalkeeper – in our case, baby VDS. Why do we do this? Because these boys are American, not Americannot. We played 10 games this weekend before fiancé responsibilities took over. The results? 9-1 with the only loss in pens (and where I conceded a very soft pen and didn't score my own pen in regular time – my own fault, but disappointing). 31 goals scored against just 6 conceded. 2-0 vs El Trifos. That is on our pace to challenge for elite.

Some team updates, playing reviews, and opportunities for improvement as per usual, as well as a bit of broader philosophy at the end.

THE AMERICAN DREAM - TEAM STRATEGY

Some major changes to the squad – we went from having (checks notes) 0 players at the power to now having 3 actual, viable options. As you may recall, we were previously playing Nick "Beanie" Lima at striker because of a real Grapes of Wrath type striker pool. Now, we not only have Lima in his natural position of left back, but we've got a Storyline Christian "Patriot" Pulisic, "Nat"Gio Reyna, and Sergino "The Very" Dest at right back.

This team now has a lot more flexibility in how it can play, so here's how I line it up. Defensive 4-2-3-1to open game. 4-4-2 if I think you're too aggressive on defense or I need a goal. 5-3-2 as an experiment when I'm up a couple and as a "break-glass-in-case-of-emergency." I also run a 4231 variation to break team press I didn't have to use this week.

Strategically, you want lower scoring, possession driven games if you have the crappier team. Why? The more chances both sides have, the less variance there is in results, and the more likely BS will favor the higher rated team (this is where PTW really comes into play). That's not to say I play negative – I don't waste time or wander aimlessly, but I try to play as efficient of FIFA as possible. Think Army football (the American one). Very methodical attack, aggressive manual pressing defense to create turnovers. My playstyle is structured to give away absolutely nothing easy – every shot and goal has to be hard earned, and you have to work hard to take the ball off me without me getting at least creating an opportunity.

As an aside, I get messages all the time about a "handicap" when playing against lower rated teams, often from Mexico badges. I won't speak too much about this point of view's sense of entitlement or lack of competitive spirit, but simply encourage people who feel that way to try playing with this team and see how their results shake out vs their usual squad. Or, as we say in Soviet America, pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

    TEAM RATINGS

Storyline Christian "Patriot" Pulisic (CAM/ST) – 5 MOTM/13G/5A. This man is a missile with his dribbling stats. Lot of self-creating and beating men off the dribble around the box. Just a blast and a half to play with – and his shot is pretty rapid. I loved his base gold, but this upgrade is enormous.

FS "Nat"Gio Reyna – 4MOTM/14G/5A. Just like National Geographic, this card just explores new ground, shares fresh perspectives, and is sometimes a little erotic. First thing, this card is thicc. He straight up bullied a few Varanes for headers. His shot is rapid as hell and even though he's a bit tall, had quick a few fabulous skill moves into finishes.

FS Sergino "The Very" Dest and Nick "Beanie" Lima – OMOTM/0G/OA/6 clean sheets. One of the major issues with prior versions of the squad was conceding from the wing. Now that we've upgraded from Yedlin and base Dest to FS Dest and no longer striker Lima, the wings are so much more secure against the Sons and Manes and Neymars. I can't remember conceding a sweaty goal, and that's enormous. I used to think fullbacks don't matter as they as long they meep meep, but I was wrong.

    OBSERVATIONS AND AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT

More multiple in chance creation. The most efficient way to score in FIFA is sweaty goals. My biggest strength is cutting in along the endline, doing a couple of cancelled croquetas and ballrolls, and finding the tap in. But as Arsenal will tell you, you can't always just walk it in. I've been playing a decent amount of career mode and working on some setups for the top of the box and other ways of creating. I also have watched some pros, especially Boras, and noticed how freaking patient he is. He will literally just stand there at the top of the box and wait for the defender to move, making the other guy panic. Storyline Puli was huge at creating those top of the box goals this weekend and I'm gonna keep working at it. Also, playing from both sides of the screen is something I need to work on.

Second half chance creation. This one drives me nuts – I'll score 1 or 2 in the opening half, then not create much in the second half. Second halves should be less productive – if you're up 2 past the 60th minute, you're fighting team press and really should only be taking guaranteed shots. But I've noticed I tend to clam up and stick with the same patterns. I may start trying to say "ok, I will deliberately try X new strategy or pattern in second half." I don't use L1 triggers much in the middle of the park because I don't want to give away cheap counters, but the drawback of that is less player movement. It may be worth be integrating more of that into my game, especially in the second half. Directional nutmegs and other skills like the bridge are also tools I don't use nearly enough.

Pens. I finally have 2 not-awful pen takers with NatGio and Puli Patriot at 85 and 76 respectively, but I still missed a couple pens that would've really made a huge difference in a few games. If a game gets to penalties, I'm fighting an uphill battle as most opponents have 5 players with better pen stats than my best player.

A reflection on underdogs, inequality, and FIFA

One final note – I've really enjoyed doing this, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to play the full 30. A few reasons there, many of them good. Busy life at work, buying a house, planning a wedding and trying to be a good partner to the fiancée all are more important. Spending 12 months locked in an apartment complex where some morons feel masks are optional for them is taxing energy wise, as is replanning the wedding because of said morons without masks. My political activism side hobby to make sure I raise my kids in a country that has healthcare, environmental regulations, and human rights takes up some time and mental energy. But I also am just enjoying the game less this year. Going a full 30 is exhausting. This game is more glitchy and PTW than it's ever been. Matthew Hoppe won Rookie POTM and still isn't in the game.

What I love about sports and America are the underdogs, those plucky bastards who don't have any resources that stand up for themselves and say "you know what? Tea is actually kind of terrible and belongs in the ocean." I could put money into this game and have whatever team I want – I'm very fortunate in that. But I choose not to because I believe in the beauty of an even playing field… and the greater beauty in charging up a mountain of an uneven playing field and showing Vancouver Rat, Red Coat credit card FC what the real score is. As I play a game (and live in a country) where the underdog gets pushed down more by the day. I get frustrated, but I do take enjoyment in seeing a rag-tag group of red, white and blue patriots take on the pixelated powers that be.

So it may not be this weekend, or next. But one of these weekends, those old boys in blue will hit the promised land of Elite 3.

Happy President's Day and see you next weekend.

Future stars party bag sbc analysis

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 06:23 PM PST

Hello all. As you know by now today (or yesterday depending on ur time zone) EA released the fairly priced future stars party bag sbc which could contain the following types of cards:

    OTW,

    Rulebreakers,

    Record breakers,

    RTTF,

    TOTGS,

    FUT freeze,

    headliners,

    Future stars.

Right now each of these packs cost 123k according to FUTBIN. So I decided to look through some youtubers pack pulls to see if these packs are really worth it.

I'll be using the following youtubers packs:

    Nerdfire( 20 packs)

    MattHDGamer( 10 packs)

    ZwebackHD (15 packs)

    15 Record breaker David Silva (89) 112,000

Players above pack value Average rating Average value
    4 85 179,950

    Conclusion:

Out of the 35 packs opened across 3 youtubers 15, although 4 of them were Sane and I doubt anyone wants him, were above pack value (so about 43% of packs)

Average rating of about 85. Median is also around 85.

Average value of about 151,000-152,000 coins. Median value of around 69,000.

Although the average value of the cards is higher than pack value this is due to high value players such as Headliners Son, RTTF Sissoko and TOTGS De Bruyne etc being packed which will in return increased the average value. The median however tells a different story.

From that I can say this pack is overpriced and considering your not guaranteed a player that'll fit your team, even if the player has good value, you'll likely be left disappointed. OTW players also being available also lowers your chances of getting anything good.

This post isn't saying your going to get something bad but you'll likely end up disappointed and your better off putting coins or fodder into something else.

Edit: Based of the comments in the thread the median value also seems important to add I I'll do that now. Apologies.

Edit 2: Added the median. Definitely has changed my view on the matter and I've changed the conclusion thanks.

The way the AI plays on Squad Battles is a disgrace to football.

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 05:47 PM PST

They do the same things on all difficulties so it doesn't matter what you play on, Pro through Legendary and Ultimate, they will do the same annoying crap every time.

It's like the AI is purposely trying to either annoy me or bore me to death with their brainless plays. Here are a few examples:

9/10 of the AI's attack lead to literally nowhere. Most games they will finish with 1-3 shots total. It's like they don't even try to attack.

Their ST receives the ball. He will turn around, away from facing my goal and start running in the opposite direction doing 6 different skill moves. Like what in the fuck?? What are you doing? Why are you skilling going AWAY from me and my goal? They do this going all the way back to the half way line.

Or they will turn around when they have a good chance to attack and get in my box and they pass all the way back to the CBs. Then they go ahead and reset their brainless attack again, starting the brain dead cycle over.

It's like they are losing by 3 goals and they are WASTING TIME?! They will just pass the ball around aimlessly by doing idiotic 1 touch passes back to the middle of the pitch until they finally give the ball away. It's infuriating.

Seriously the FIFA AI is making a mockery out of real football every single game and I feel physical pain every time I have to play against this brainless joke of a system.

They play the most Anti-football I've ever seen and it is boring and worse than a chore to play agains them.

PS.: Yes, I understand that there are objectives you can do in either SB or Rivals, but who in their right mind would try to complete those objective with shit players in Div 3-1, hell, in any division really, when most people play rivals to climb ranks, use their best teams and sweat every game? Squad Battles is obviously an easy way to get these out of the way but this mode has so much more potential but the god awful way the AI works in this game just does not allow you to actually have fun playing that mode.

I don't play Career mode because I can only assume the AI plays the same way on there too and I can not put myself under this torture any more than I have to. Even though I miss manager career and was my favorite thing to play growing up.

Please EA. Can we get some new Icons for the f2p player base?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 10:40 AM PST

It's now been exactly a month since the last batch of 'new' Icon SBCs released (headlined by R. Carlos).

For the love of god, can we either get swaps or some new sbcs? It's been such a miserable month with promo's just focused on packs... The academy objectives are back which is great, but then again they're splitting the community (I like them, but many say the cards are shit).

FS players, and promo players in general are way too hard to pack reflecting in their prices (Camavinga as much as TOTY Kimmich, Saka more than TOTY Davies - I'm sorry how?).

Every single evening I am logging in hoping for new milestones, Icon Swaps or an Icon SBC and we get nothing. Why is it soo dry?

An Update to Ripamon's 433: Fast Paced Klopp-style Football, Designed with Love from a Liverpool Fan

    Posted: 15 Feb 2021 11:42 AM PST

    Condensed Tactics: https://ibb.co/vZPTQWd

Hello everyone! Ever since I came across u/Ripamon's Ultimate 433 Guide (I also recommend you read that if you haven't already), I have been implementing 4321 as my main formation in Weekend League, to amazing results. I am still shy of my first Elite finish, but I have regularly gotten Gold 1 and Gold 2 with games to spare, and I must say that as a casual player, the 4321 formation has allowed me to find my own unique playstyle in a way that has improved my gameplay significantly. Through my experimentation week in and week out, I have fine tuned the 4321 tactics, and today I hope to introduce some of you to my recommendations.

In real life, I've been a Liverpool fan all my life. Despite our recent series of poor performances, as well as many voicing out concerns that Klopp's 433 has become outdated and too predictable, I think it remains a very effective and, more importantly, fun way to play football, even on Fifa 21. Ripamon's tactics were fast paced and awesome to play with, and they worked for me for the most part. All I did to make it even more fun was just to make it more attacking, and to adjust player instructions to suit my players.

How do my tactics play out like Liverpool's tactics?

THE PRESS: A notable aspect of Liverpool's game is its high line and high press, which is why I have stuck with Ripamon's suggestion for 8 depth and Press After Possession Loss. What I find even more important than the tactics, is that the formation itself opens up to very effective pressing because of how well spread out the players are on the pitch. This is definitely a tactic that would be rendered even more effective for the aggressive defenders among us. I also find that 8 depth is the right balance between a strong press and the ability to stem out counters.

ATTACKING FULLBACKS: Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have shown their attacking minds over the last few seasons, becoming some of the most efficient attacking fullbacks in the modern game. Having attacking fullbacks in FIFA is hence a must for any style of play seeking to emulate Klopp's. With one fullback (I have my LB Mendy) on join the attack, this forces width in the attack and creates incredible passing opportunities. On the other fullback, overlap and balanced attacking allows for the fullback to create additional space on the side by staying out wide, but also provides additional support at the back because the fullback will only bombard upward when the opportunity calls for it.

THE MIDFIELD: Fabinho's CDM role is best played by someone who, like Fabinho, has good tackle reach to stem through balls and good verticals to stem high balls. From experience, the CDM is crucial to the success of this formation. Because of the attacking fullbacks, at times the 433 may actually end up with only 2 CBs at the back. Hence the CDM must be on Drop between Defenders, Cover Center, in order to provide additional cover as a 3rd CB. The CDM will have to stem any counter attacks to buy time for the fullbacks to reorganise in the defence. One of the CMs (untouched instructions) will play as a workhorse like Gini Wijnaldum or Jordan Henderson, providing additional cover at the back, but also providing an attacking presence when needed. The other CM will act as a creative midfielder, like Naby Keita or at times, Gini Wijnaldum. This attacking CM will bombard up the pitch to open up opportunities for a quick counter, or provide a passing option for slow build up play in the final third. A good shooter is a must, especially for outside the box shots. I personally prefer High/High on my CMs and Med/High on my CDM.

False 9: Bobby Firmino's role in Liverpool has become a meme on several occasions, but in my biased mind, the False 9 remains an efficient way to set up attacks and wing play. This False 9 will drop back into the midfield to collect the ball, and then act as a pivot point for the entire formation to distribute the ball to either the midfield, to the forwards, or to drive forwards himself with the ball. Great dribbling, shooting, and decent passing is a must for this position. Medium/Medium workrates also work best, although certain players like Neymar with High/Medium seem to thrive there.

Left Forward + Right Forward: Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have each racked up impressive goal tallies over the last few seasons, but it should really come as no surprise. The Klopp 433 is set up such that the LF and RF will constantly making piercing runs through the defence, and wait for a through ball. Similarly, for this Fifa formation, the LF and RF are set on Get in Behind and balanced width to ensure they do not crowd the centre of the park. They will be the primary goal scorers on the team, so good shooting and dribbling is crucial. High/Medium workrates would work best.

    Why play the 4321?

    1. 3 CMs in the middle of the park provide a lot of triangles for incredible passing options, which allows the formation to be very PRESS-RESISTANT. In addition, the 3 CMs provide very good defensive cover. In a way, you are always defending with 7 players and attacking with 7. It is a super end-to-end formation and very effective, even against better teams. With the number of great CMs now being released into the game, this is a viable formation for you to make use of 3 CMs rather than the conventional 2 in most formations.
    2. Attacking Fullbacks open up a wide range of opportunities for wide play and crosses. They are also unpredictable and very hard to defend. I find that the biggest weakness against the 4321 is that opponents are always pulling out their fullbacks to deal with my attacking fullbacks, which leaves my inside forwards free for a quick shot or an easier dribble.
    3. False 9 role is excellently played by someone like POTM Felix with Med/Med workrates, because of his attacking AI. For anyone who cannot get the full potential out of a player like POTM Felix, I would recommend them giving this 4321 tactic a try.
    4. If you are a Liverpool fan, or really a fan of any other 433-playing team, I would seriously recommend you having fun and experimenting with this formation. I find that I play in inspired form when I am able to apply the tactics and footballing genius of my favourite team in an effective manner. It gives me a sense of satisfaction that you may similarly enjoy.

I am still just an amateur FIFA player. But I love the Beautiful Game, and it makes me happy to be able to play just like Liverpool in this video game. I hope that you would give my tactics a try, and do let me know in the comments if there is anything I can help you with or clarify. I would be more than willing to answer them. Not to mention that I'm hugely grateful for u/Ripamon for even giving me this means to play with such a fun tactic. I hope you would appreciate my updates to your tactics too. Stay safe during this COVID period and always stay happy. :]
