Skill spammers take the joy out of this game

    Posted: 21 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT

    I'm around 1900-1950SR, usually finish G2, sometimes G1.

Played my first 5 WL games today, every single one was absolutely spamming ball rolls, elasticos and of course, fake shot stop croquetas nearly the entire match. Ok, whatever, the first 5 games are random or some blah blah blah. I usually go 4-1, today 3-2.

Take a break. Next two games, again, the entire match! 1-1 against the absolute meta trolls. Last guy was still rocking gold mbappe, played him 120 minutes and he never ran out of gas...probably croqueta'd at least 25 times if not more...and when he wasn't...no matter what part of the pitch, it's ball roll ball roll ball roll. He also attempted at least 10 rainbows. In the end, I got too close and failed to contain on ONE rainbow, and bit too hard on one damn croqueta and took the L. That's the thing with the spammers, it just takes a couple when you try them so many times.

I just find it so lame. As a 30+ year old it feels like this game is just filled with spammy kids, no one cares about using the great all time players, all people care about is meta, meta meta M E T A. I'm over here messing around with Haaland and other off meta players on the side in rivals, trying to build second and third teams from rewards and it's just gold mbappe y ball croqueta almost all highish ELO matches, and also some where you are at +/- 1!!!

I can't imagine what WL is like if you are a legitimate 900-1500SR player...competing against this shit is almost impossible for those of us who are above average but not elite..

EDIT: I just wanna say that I know this mini rant comes off a bit whiny and I want to say its not just about this particular game or this WL...my WL will probably end where it always does. This is more about the entire state of the game, playing spammers daily, sometimes in 5 straight games etc

    A Division 6er's First Weekend League - Part 1

    Posted: 21 May 2021 11:39 AM PDT

Welcome to what is sure to be the most stressful weekend of my life.

Due to a change in my personal life, this week I've found myself with more free time than at any point in the last 5ish years. Unsure of what to do, I decided to make a push to qualify for FUT Champs. I'm a casual FIFA player, I've never really played fut properly, just dipping in and out, have some fun, that was that. I'm in division 6, I'm not great. I don't know what 'Meta' means, I don't play RBs at CB. I just try to put the ball in the goal. So I thought, why keep my embarrassment private when I could beam it to the world?

    The Team: https://imgur.com/58R91bH

MattyHollandFC. No nonsense, like the great man himself. 'Division 10 ain't ready' I hear you say, but I've been having fun with this team. Club legends Roberto 'Robbie' Carlos, Roy 'El Kapitano' Keane and Inaki 'Attacki' Williams getting their time to shine here, hopefully with Nabil 'Fecker' Fekir and 'No Nickname Because Mononymous' Neymar delivering too. On the bench, William 'Baby You Can Drive My' Carvalho and Alessandro 'Besta' Nesta are among those vying for minutes. The Stage is set. Lets dive in.

Okay, I hate this. My passes didn't go, Neymar got a 5.5, I had 5 shots. What a horror show. Oh, and I may have lost 8-0. But its my first game, I'll warm into it, right? Right? Game 2 is a little better. I manage to score at least. Neymar is up to 6.5 and I'm 0-2 to start.

Game 3, and we have a win! I flew into a 2-0 lead, and due to either a quit or a disconnect, I take a big fat W. And the good times keep rolling! A big 4-0 win and Neymar decides to turn up. 2 for him and 2 for Atacki and we're flying. This isn't so bad after all.

Scratch that. I lost again. I'm 5 games in, 2-3 and I'm exhausted. How the hell do you lads do this every weekend? Oh I've lost again. This is not going as well as I'd hoped. On the other side, It's not going as bad as I thought.

I finish my first session 2-4. The chances of me playing all games were slim, but they're probably lower now. Am I worst FUT Champs player ever? It's tough to say, but yes. At least it can only get better. Although I did say that at 0-2. Ooof.

I hope you enjoyed my gradual realisations that I'm out of my depth. Join me next time for 'A Division 6er's First Weekend League - Part 2: 2 FIFA, 2 Furious.

Fifa is nothing but a comparison of internet speeds, change my mind.

    Posted: 21 May 2021 10:31 AM PDT

Even if it's not showing any lag symbol, with slow internet you're in a constant 1 v 11 because the AIs are just not helping.

Potential unpopular opinion on issues with the game!

    Posted: 21 May 2021 04:08 PM PDT

Recently there has been an increased amount of posts on Reddit and comments about skill spammers, and through balls. While I agree that these are major flaws with the game I think I have a reason that they are so relevant in the meta.

In FIFA every year no matter what perfect game or not there will be a meta we can't deny that. With the current meta being Bridges/DNM, elastico, croqueta, and shot cancels. As well as these lengthy through balls on an angle. I believe this meta exists not only because these are the best tactics to score in the game but because they are the only ways to score consistently in this game. For myself I play away from the meta. Sure I may use meta cards but I don't play the style that you would consider meta. I play the 3-5-2 German style football where they suffocate you in passing and there formation on offence and on defence holding shape winning the ball back with some pressure at the right times.

Now onto the reason why I believe that the current toxic meta exists is because defending is too good this year. The last couple weeks I haven't been playing for rewards but more aware to the actually gameplay. Trying to get passed some of these defenders when they should be surely beat is an near impossible task. Pulling off a berba spin cutting on the wing having the defender over commit only for them to warp back because they are jockeying is really crazy. Trying to make a simple move around the 18 yard box is impossible on the defending AI because they are so good in motion that is why we are now seeing pros and up standing still to counter AI defenders. Another point on defending being overpowered is of course the auto blocks. They are too strong and save a lot of people and yes even myself in some cases.

I also believe that on offence we are limited to playing a certain style of football with body types making only some unique styles and lean players effective. Being a target man in fifa probably hasn't been any worse. Longs shots are dead which limits the attacks that do actually happen and crossing is dead aside from the driven crosses which only works when it is a free player in the box. With all of this in attack it limits the way you can attack effectively.

Combining all of this together and you get the current meta we have. Defending being so fast and so good makes the community choose attackers with certain body types because those are the body types that can actually turn and make players against the overpowered defence.

So all of this written up there must be a solution. In all honesty there isn't really I would say make offence more effective from range which would mean long shots and crosses being better. Tune down the speed of bridges and directional nutmegs. Shot canceling skill moves is okay I think it provides skill gap despite it being really good this year. Make AI defenders do a little less blocking and when the make tackles poorly punish them either with lunging into thin air or fouls because this year defenders can get away with murder on there challenges

Please do discuss away in the comments I'm open to all opinions and ideas! Hope this make sense.

Sad to see Bundes TOTS end (and quick player sbc ranking)

    Posted: 21 May 2021 07:26 AM PDT

Well, I went all in on this one and I'm bummed to see the crazy Bundes sbcs end. Here's a quick ranking of the ones ive done. (Didn't do Waman or Kruse)

    1. Lazaro: The biggest surprise and my favorite out of the bunch. I play him in a b2b position and he is fantastic there. I'm convinced his left stick dribbling is the best in the game—ball just sticks to his feet. Plus 5 star skills. Scores bangers and distributes nicely. Only downside is his stamina. Seems to get tired way faster than others. But prolly just my high usage of him. Also my only play not on 10 chem—doesn't matter.
    2. Mbabu: Just an absolute god as a dedicated cdm in my 4321, and cb in my 352. Not sure if he is worth it over his other cards as I haven't used them.
    3. Tapsoba: You've heard enough about him, and it's all true.
    4. Douglas Costa: I've got him at ST and LF. Amazing finisher and skiller. 3 star week foot feels like a 6. Composure feels about at 150.
    5. Olmo: fantastic finisher and great off-the-ball movement. His runs are sublime.
    6. Zagadou: Tough to put him this low as he is only a step off of Tapsoba. If he gets an upgrade, my cbs should be set for endgame—or until I get bored
    7. Kostic: My LB in 4321 and LM in 352. This dude shows up. I know he just came out but haven't had this many goals and assists from this position in a long time. Class player so far.
    8. Bellingham: Like Kostic, I got him specifically to use as a RB or RM. He works really well in both. Haven't noticed the low defensive awareness. And also like Kostic this dude is scoring and assisting on the regular.
    9. Gray: ehhh, He's ok. Maybe mediocre. Biggest gap on this list is between 8 and 9. The only one i kinda regret doing. Would say I hope he gets the upgrade to make him better, but i don't. Hope Zagadou gets it. Go Dortmond!

Would love to hear thoughts on this, and hope this helps if anyone is looking to do some last-minute sbc-ing

Every weekend I see these posts and I roll my eyes, but jfc this weekend league gameplay is the worst it’s ever been.

    Posted: 21 May 2021 08:49 PM PDT

Now I'm not the greatest player in the world, not by a long shot. I'm very average. But I get gold 2 consistently. This weekend I can barely win a game. I'm struggling to beat players that are clearly not good at this game.

I'm sure I'm just being a whiner and a pussy, but I just needed to vent.

First time I've seen a goalkeeper bamboozled by a knuckleball

    Posted: 21 May 2021 03:10 PM PDT

Quick Tip: For the Barella objective you need an italian goal

    Posted: 21 May 2021 01:01 PM PDT

So, for all those players that from the first minute swaps the front line with players like Messi TOTY, Maradona Prime, Dalglish PIM (and so on) it's meaningless, you're not even completing the "longest" objective...

I even saw players arguin that I didn't follow the golden goal after a loan Messi TOTY goal, not even a long-shot, why should I quit if you didn't even score with an italian?

    Amiri is amazing

    Posted: 21 May 2021 04:46 PM PDT

Anyone else think so? I've tried headliner Goretzka, Lees-Melou, Nkunku, Guendouzi etc and none of them play the role as well. I've built a suicide squad with 3 at the back, and Amiri on stay back and I haven't felt more solid defensively! He's a dream on the ball too and his passing is excellent.
