Basically yeah, if you need to go 5 divisions down to complete a challenge you're a lazy mf (unless you're going down because losing while trying, then I'm sorry mate, that's how life works.)

I know I'll get downvoted because 98% of this sub does that but idc, it's just wrong, you should stop it.

Player Review: Jhonathan Ramis (0* WF, 1* SM, wrong face stats and card type, 31 traits)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:55 AM PDT

When I say that this is the most broken card in the game, I don't mean it in the typical way. EA has really messed up everything possible on this card. To begin, this 69 rated striker has a non-existent weak left foot with exactly 0 stars. His skill moves are better, but 1 star still makes him worse than PIM Peter Schmeichel. His face stats are a complete lie according to Futbin but not in game, so I'll put the proposed in-game face stat next to the card's stat throughout this review. Additionally, this is the only Libertadores card from Velez Sarsfield, a team that actually played in the Sudamericana this year (as the rest of the cards suggest). The one silver lining is that he appears to have all of the traits in the game, which should make him feel fairly good in game. I was really curious to try out the most broken card in this game, so here we go.

    Price: 250 coins on bid

    Team: here

Games: 8, all Rivals. Last 3 were in my terrible 1st owner La Liga team.

    Goals: 12

    Assists: 7

82 pace (maybe 71): 3/5. Enough to keep defenders from catching up to him when he's in behind 90% of the time, but he did get caught once or twice. Really can't do anything more, but it's good enough if you get him in the right positions to begin with. He certainly didn't win any pure foot races against the defenders in this stage of FIFA.

66 shooting (maybe 52): 2/5. He obviously finished plenty of chances based on the 1.5 GPG, but he should have done so much better. He missed several easy chances by shooting it wide or right into the goalkeeper. It seems that he can never find the corner of the net. His shot power is very impressive (maybe it's a trait?) but the accuracy lets him down. The majority of the goals were tap-ins, which indicates that his positioning is good I suppose.

60 passing (maybe 44): 3/5. Sometimes maybe good... he's dreadful 75% of the time, De Bruyne for the other 25%. I really don't understand the passing on this card. He set up Werner and Sane extremely well with through balls, but is capable of missing the most basic short passes in the build up. The moments of brilliance were good enough to earn him a 3.

70 dribbling (maybe 56): 2/5. This really lets him down and feels much closer to the supposed 56. He's extremely clunky and turns like a tank despite his body type, which is the opposite of what I expected. Keep it simple and don't try anything fancy with him.

37 defending (maybe 25): 1/5. One time, he tried to tackle an opponent in the midfield and put the other team's Douglas Costa in on goal with a brilliant through ball. Set him to stay forward because he doesn't know how to tackle.

68 physicality (maybe 58): 4/5. This was a huge surprise. He was able to shield the ball amazingly and hold off challenges from behind with his strength. His stamina drains quite quickly, but the second wind trait keeps him viable late in the game. His jumping is actually quite good as well in conjunction with the power header trait.

0 star weak foot (maybe 3 star): 3/5. I played him at LST to make him use his weak left foot more, so I got a significant sample size from which to judge this rating. It's definitely 3 star, and I was actually able to score a goal or two with the weak foot. The shots were extremely weak, however, and I was quite lucky that they went in.

1 star skill moves (maybe 3 star): 3/5. Once again, it's definitely 3 star. The bad agility means that many of the moves don't come off perfectly or the ball gets taken away immediately after, but he's certainly capable of some of the mid-tier skill moves.

Traits: 5/5. There are 31 of them, and they're actually quite noticeable. I took him into a beginner SB match to see if he could pull anything good off, and he managed to score this unbelievable volley. While many traits contradict each other or belong to goalkeepers, the good traits are extremely fun to exploit.

Overall rating: 3/5. On the pitch, he's certainly not a dominant force, but he got the job done with the occasional hat trick or brace. Inconsistent, but you don't turn to a 69 rated striker for dependability. You won't be taking him into WL, but he's usable enough that he's not a burden or a pain to have on your team. The traits are the hook that makes this card worth getting and enjoying.

Value: 5/5. For 250 coins, what do you have to lose? He's hilarious to use, and while he isn't the best player, the traits make this card broken in the best way possible. The worst case scenario is that you hate him and throw him into a Libertadores SBC, where he's actually quite good value compared to the other 650+ coin cards. Just go have fun with him.

Why is no one mentioning the profoundly broken gameplay right now?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:22 PM PDT

The game was by no means perfect pre-patch, but since 1.18 dropped, nothing makes sense. Even after resetting all tactics to default, defensive lines are pushing forward for no reason, midfielders are pushing up without command, stamina drains absurdly quickly even without sprinting, and every goal is an indefensible through ball through the 2 CB's who part like the red sea.

Jockeying is unreliable and unresponsive, 50/50 challenges for the ball rebound to the attacker far more even than they did before, and overall the gameplay feels... Floaty.

Squad Battles 101 #1 - General tips to play against AI and to maximize points

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:44 AM PDT

edit: wow, thanks for the gold, anonymous gifter!

I was inspired by u/Ryancklee's new series "Tactical Way to Top 100 SB" to create this series of guides to help people with playing against Squad Battles AI and to improve your offline game! I plan on showcasing some useful tactics, commonly used gameplay mechanics, and just general tips for game management. Feel free to suggest anything you'd like to see!

Here's a little about me:I am a purely offline FUT player who has been playing squad battles almost exclusively since it was added to FUT. In FIFA 20, I've progressed from settling for Elite 1 early in the year, to challenging for top 100 inconsistently, to making top 50, to squeezing into the top 20, and now am able to say that I have placed in the top 10 on my console.

For this first segment, we'll talk about some general tips for SB and then analyze some of my gameplay.

    GENERAL SQUAD BATTLES TIPS

    • To maximize your points for any game of squad battles at any difficulty, you'll need to check off some checkboxes:
      • Score 5 goals - each goal is worth around 200 points. On legendary, If you win 1-0, you will earn 1800ish points. 2-0 earns 2000, 3-0 is 2200, 4-0 is 2400, and 5-0 is around 2600. Take into account that this is also dependent on the difficulty you're playing on as well as the strength of the team.
      • Keep a clean sheet - clean sheets are very important because they contribute ~200 points to your match score as well which is as good as a goal. If you win 5-1, it will be around the same amount of points as winning 4-0. After losing a clean sheet, it doesn't matter how many more goals the AI scores on you in terms of having more points deducted. This is key when you are in a 4-3 game and you are nearing the end of the game - if you feel that you aren't able to score the 5th goal, you can let the AI equalize to 4-4 and then go to ET to give yourself more time to score again - this is of course if you are confident that you can win the game after going to 4-4. Letting the AI take you to ET will not negatively affect your points unless you lose during pens.
        • The difference between a 4-3 score line and a 5-4 score line is around 200 points because of the extra goal you are able to score. ~~The extra goal conceded does not matter.~~
        • EDIT: I've been informed by some of y'all that extra goals conceded to deduct from your point total, possibly around 40 points per goal. I think my point still stands about allowing an equalizer to get the chance of scoring another goal or two in ET - if you concede 1 goal (-40 points) to score one more (+200ish), you are still coming out with a net gain. Cheers!
      • Achieve 60% possession and 80% pass accuracy. You should have no trouble with the pass accuracy and it is easily built up if you pass around at the end of the game. The possession is difficult because some AI will play on possession tactics that will aim to frustrate the hell out of you. This is normally my LEAST important stat to work on.
      • Earn 10 corners. This can be quite a difficult one to work on but you can earn points for each corner you get up to 10 max (I forget how many points it is per corner, but I think it may be around 10-20 each for a max of 200). Normally when I've scored my 5 goals and have some time to kill, I'll work on getting corners. This involves taking a lot of shots from wide angles, aiming at the keeper, playing the byline, etc.
      • Avoid fouls and red cards. I'm not sure exactly how the points work for fouls or red cards. But I am pretty sure red cards are weighed less than conceded goals... so if you need to, take a foul or a card to prevent a fast break. I've never really had an issue with this however.
    • Best formation for SB - I personally prefer 4231 because it gives me a compact midfield to pass around and create chances against an AI system that will more often than not just park the bus around their box. I will review my personal tactics later.
    • AI Tactics on _____ difficulty - this depends a little on the difficulty and the formation the AI is playing. However, I've noticed that on Legendary difficulty, the AI are pretty much playing drop back, 2-3 depth, and will often have 8-9 men behind the ball. The worst formations that do this are 451, 4231, or pretty much any formation with 5 midfielders and a lone ST. They will be frustrating to break down because they will have a strong line of 5 midfielders that you will have to get past. Which brings us to the next section

AI TACTICS ON LEGENDARY AND COUNTER STRATEGIES

    • The AI's aim on SB appears to be to frustrate the player and to play a very tight and conservative game. Sometimes you will have a team that will have different tactics and leave holes for you to exploit, but I find that 80-90% of the time, you'll be facing 10 men behind the ball.
    • There are few key points here we should discuss:
      • Defensively, the AI like to keep compact around the box and don't press excessively in their defensive third. They are mostly narrow and keep their midfield line very close to their defensive line, which can be difficult to break down. The way I get around this is to spread the play out wide, or even move it quickly along the width of the 18 yard box and look for an opening into my CAMs or my ST in and around the box. As you'll see from my gameplay later, I like to hold the ball up with my ST or CAM in the box, and then use the scoop turn or fake shot to make room for a near post shot. This is probably how I score 60% of my goals.
      • Another underused move that I like to use is the dummy fake AKA the RB/R1 button. This lets the ball past your player and continue its trajectory while your player uses his body to turn the defender and open up a yard for a shot or pass. (I also use this in the middle of the park sometimes too, since defenders can just clamp onto you and tackle you quickly, especially on Ultimate difficulty. By letting the ball roll by, you can at least draw the foul if the defender tackles you)
      • On the offense, the AI LOVE to play the wings and switch it wide if they play a 433 type formation. They then run down the lines and look for a cross. While crosses are broken/shit in online play, they are the bane of my SB career. I've had many a nonrare gold or a silver win a header and score over David Luiz or Blanc. Once the AI get to around the corner flag, they will 100% look for the space for a cross or do a few fake shots. Don't dive in - you'll likely either miss and open up space for the attacker to run past your defender. Just give them a yard of space but stay goal-side (in between the ball and your goal/box) and wait for their move. Once they make the fake shot, just position using the L stick and steal the ball or kick it out for a throw in. I hardly ever use the standing tackle button.
      • On the point about not diving in - this applies for ALL areas of the park. There is little to gain in this game by using the standing tackle. I typically use the players' body and strength to dispossess opponents, or aim to cut off passing lanes as you'll see in my gameplay. I occasionally slide tackle if there is a 50/50 that I know I can win with a tackle in the middle of the park. Jockeying with LT (+RT) is important and so is being patient. I will highlight some clips where I did not jockey effectively or lost my marker and how to recover afterwards.
      • On the transition - this will be a very important part of your game, especially against opponents that hoard the ball and possession and you are struggling for a touch let alone a chance to score. In defence, I play a very high line (10 depth) and on Pressure on Heavy Touch. When my opponent has possession in their defensive third and I notice that there is a chance to press, I will press with my ST or wide CAM manually while simultaneously holding RB for second man press. I will then continue to hold down RB while switching to the other pressing player to position him either in a passing lane or marking a man. This is a great way to win back possession or to force a punted clearance from the defender. I think I have an example of that in my gameplay.
      • Transitioning from your own defensive third is a bit different. It can be difficult if you are playing a team with a lot of attackers up front like 424, 4231, 433(4) and are already pressuring your backline. It is also made harder with AI tactics like constant pressure, which you will notice right away. The key here is to stay composed and patient with your passes and movement. I have a clip later showing how you can use drag backs to get out of sticky spots and spread the play to the full backs. You can also shield the ball with LT/L2 and pass it back to your goalkeeper to distribute or just punt upfield.
      • Once you can get the ball from your defenders/keeper to your midfielders, the break is on. I avoid blind, long balls in the middle of the park since defenders are now so adept at pressing and winning them. I use RB to call for a man to come short, normally this is my ST or CAM. I play a normal pass low to them and, instead of trying to turn and run, I use them as a backboard to spread the play to runners from midfield and then use LB to ask them to make runs forward OR I continue the passing play with them. This not only brings your runners into the attack and allows you to continue their runs with LB, but it also reduces the chance of your losing possession by trying to turn into a marking defender.
      • Once you are attacking on the break: You can use skill moves like the body feint, step overs and exit, Berba turn, etc, to make space and make your way into the box. The running fake shot is also useful for freezing defenders on the wing. If you are getting stuck on the wings and they are getting men back, don't be afraid to reset to your midfielders and be patient. I also like to wait for runners from midfield to get into the box - the AI don't tend to mark these runners as well. You'll see from my tactics that I set my CAMs to get into the box.

Okay, this post has been long enough. I'll leave y'all with this: https://streamable.com/p5nlvjIt shows my team, in-game tactics, and gameplay from a recent game against a 186 rated squad on Legendary. Disclaimer: I was a bit nervous during this game and it showed, but I think I captured some decent learning points.

Stay tuned for the next segment, which will showcase gameplay against Ultimate AI and some more tips!

It’s just me or the FIFA Companion app is getting worse day by day?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:42 PM PDT

Especially the mobile version. Issues: - On every restart I get notified I need to update the app, despite being already updated. - Cannot submit different SBCs, despite respecting the requirement (have to log in into the game to submit them) - For a whille now if I search players using the general positions (defenders, midfielders, forwards) it returns no results, despite having players in those positions - And let's not forget about the bidding issue that caused everybody to lose some players because they could not submit their bid (A workaround for this is to keep some players on your watch list and when the problem appears just remove a player from the watch list and go back again and bid) - Just recently it has a hard time loading my transfer list on mobile and the only workaround is to restart the app (I think it has to do with all the influx of players since the lockdown)

Has any of you experieces this issues? Fell free to add some more if you have

Content MUSTS for the next FIFA

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:23 PM PDT

This post is stricly focused on CONTENT and not discussing the obvious gameplay issues that plague this game (fix the servers). At this point, the game feels supremely unrewarding and there's simple things that could be done to revamp the content and make the game enjoyable through its game cycle.

    1. Revamp WL rewards. TOTW is obselete. As it stands, basing your competitve game mode on TOTW players as rewards is a waste of time. A simple fix to this would be making the player rating scale dynamic as the year progresses. Players under 80 rated are helpful in TOTW at the start of the game, but come April these players are simply worthless if packed as a reward for what should be the most competitive mode in the game. The scale should gradually increase so that by now, the lowest rated TOTW players are 82+ and there should be more players rated 85+. I have 0 motivation to play WL if I know that there are high odds I end the week with two 81 rated players as a reward. This brings me to my second point...

    2. Give us something to do with non-meta, low-rated cards. This goes for gameplay, and SBCs. In Fifa 17, there were tournaments that limited the overalls or card types you could have. Give us a game mode within UT that limits players to below 60 pace, cards under 82 rated, etc and boost the rewards so that its worth the grind and challege. If you are going to "reward" us with subpar players, give us a reason to use these cards and not have them lay in our club worthless. Likewise, there's nothing to do with many of these cards until certain promos (Futmas, TOTS, Futties) so these cards aren't playable and just sit in your club. There should always be some sort of rinseable SBC to move players in your club and try to upgrade. They have this with gold cards, but what about specials? As of now, people's clubs are stocked with useless TOTW or old promo players that you can't play with and can't rinse. I think what they've done recently to introduce 87+ TOTW picks into WL is great, and that's the only reason I've played. There needs to be more of this, otherwise the rewards are meaningless. This brings me to the final point...

    3. Separate "Rivals" or whatever the WL qualfication mode is from a mode where you need to play for objectives. This is completely pointless. Similar to point 2, create a mode that is tailored for people doing objectives by limiting the types of players that can be used in the mode. On one hand, there are people who haven't needed to play a Rivals match in months due to WL qualification tiers and they simply want to play with their teams. Likewise, there are people grinding MISERABLE objectives with gold rated, low rated squads. Separate these two bases. There is -0 fun in taking an 85 chemistry Portugese squad into Rivals and coming up against a Prime Eusebio God squad. It's not fun for anyone. Limit these modes so that people grinding objectives are coming up against similarly rated squads, likewise give people a place to play weekly with their normal squads.

These shouldn't be difficult adds and it would make the game much more enjoyable on a weekly basis so that people are engaged with the game. As of now, I probably can't see myself playing the game again until TOTS.
