FIFA 21 Guide: Dribbling! (Examples inside)

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 10:06 AM PDT

    Hey guys!

I'm back with another guide, this one focusing on dribbling as it was requested. Generally dribbling guides will focus on the different inputs such as close control or agile dribbling. While I'll try to address the different ways, I'll be giving my thought process in different situations with examples. I personally prefer close-control (L1/LB) but you might find agile dribbling easier to use. Agile dribbling (R1/RB) is something new for FIFA 21 and extremely useful if you learn how to use it. Dribbling is very versatile, you can succeed in many ways and the best way is to go with the style that you feel comfortable with. With that said, this guide will be focusing on how I usually dribble. Anyways let's get to it.

    First Touch

This is something I've rarely seen mentioned. Using close-control (L1/LB) when receiving a pass makes the player take a close first touch. It makes a huge difference, I use it on almost every single pass. This clip shows what i mean. That half meter touch can be the reason you lose the ball.

    Close control dribbling (L1/LB)

As seen earlier with the first touch example, it's basically what it sounds like. The player keeps the ball closer to his body. As the ball is closer to the players feet, the input from the controller is executed quicker. It gives you versatility without losing something in return.

I use it in almost everything. Whether i'm turning with the player, stopping or simply taking my time to find the right pass it's always in use. Even just Running with you can quickly switch directions.

    Sprint (R2/RT)

One of the most common mistakes is abusing the sprint button. Using it when you're not clear on goal or counter-attacking with space it will, more often than not, result in a heavy touch and ball loss. You can use it in the middle of the field to run past an opponent. In the clip above, if i keep using it, I'll most likely lose the ball.

    Example 1

    Example 2

These clips break down my reasoning when I decide to use sprinting when I wwant to dribble through.

    Skill Moves

I want to make it clear that, regarding skill moves, this is only my preference. You might agree or disagree. Personally I don't use any skill moves except for the ball roll. I feel that skills get very predictable, if the defender doesn't overcommit, skills are easy to deal with. If someone, for example, tries the McGeady spin he has to wait for the player to finish the skill, which makes it easy to intercept when he finishes. If he cancels the skill he loses momentum. Important to note this is simply my take on it.

However, as mentioned, I use the ball roll. It is easy to learn, effective in most situations and most importantly you don't lose your momentum. If there's a side with free space it's easy to find it.

Example 2 shows how you can use it to your advantage.

    General

Dribbling specifically can be done in so many ways, you should strive for what works for you. However I do believe that being able to dribble well improves your play a lot. Being able to switch up your approach will make it harder for your opponent to know how to defend. I hope this will be of use for someone!

    2. Prevent you from doing your objectives at all cost

I played 30 offline drafts for rewards, here are the results!

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 01:53 PM PDT

    https://preview.redd.it/dqshwlyx64u51.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6c0b375395c8d409356348f6bc5e34ce8a7e002

Early on every FIFA cycle I grind out the single player draft in Ultimate Team, because even though the pack rewards can seem bad, all it takes is one low rated meta card and you are way into the profit.

The draft costs 15,000 coins to enter and lets say you earn 400 coins per game until completion, that leaves you with 13,400 required back from packs to make your money back and then all the extra coins is PROFIT!

If you test out this method yourself, you'll notice more often than not that you're making profit, whether that be big or small.

Breakdown of the 30 drafts i played:

    Net Spend: 450,000

    Net Return: 661,493

    Net Profit: 211,493

Most common rewards: Premium Gold pack and Jumbo Premium Gold 26 Pack

Best players pulled: Valverde and Haaland

Best return on investment: 66,017 return. 51,617 profit.

Worst return on investment: 11,273 return. 3,727 loss.

Here is the google document, I have been using to track my progress:

Some of you lot are absolutely crazy.

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 05:34 AM PDT

Yeah Pace is OP and refs are broken this year, I think we can all admit that. However there's so many posts since WL complaining about imaginary issues and this happens literally every year as soon as the stakes are raised.

I'm not a great player by any means, usually around Gold 1, but all this talk of "one game my Hazard could turn and take people on and the next they get closed down instantly THE DELAY". You ever thought maybe it's because the other player is better/worse? I play on a wired connection at around 30mb/s in the uk, maybe this is less of an issue here because of server location, but I don't think I've ever had a game of fut champs lag in the past 2 years.

Tbh I think a lot of you just can't handle losing at a video game and come up with the most wild excuses. Again there are issues this year as there are with literally every competitive video game ever, but if there's truly this much wrong and you hate the game so much every year, just don't fucking play it!

Edit: it seems this is mainly a NA based issue, obviously I've never experienced that living in the UK!

After so many years, I've finally, FINALLY clutched Elite 3! For many of you this may not seem so special but I'm really really happy. I've been close so many times and to do it on the first Weekend League of FIFA 21 is just an amazing feeling.

Special shout out to Paulo Dybala, my favourite player, and by far my best player this WL. 55 games, 78 goals & 34 assists. INSANE.

Safe to say I'm kinda happy :P

Surely they change the weekend league games counting as rivals before next weekend.

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 05:38 PM PDT

Div 1 rank 3 right now on PC is 12010, meaning if you didn't get time to play rivals on thursday you're getting rank 4 rewards which is absolutely disgusting compared to what you could get and there's also essentially no reason for me to play FIFA now Monday - Wednesday. I can't believe people thought this up and it was cleared and implemented into the game, it is actually braindead. Here's hoping I hang on for dear life and get at least rank 3 rewards

The anti meta fifa 21 appreciation post

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 10:46 AM PDT

This is for the person who introduced me to the anti meta Fifa 21 strat. When i was browsing on reddit i came upon a post which cought my attention. A post about playing fifa in a way i never thought of seeing myself play.

After buying fifa on the release date i always start with playing squad battles to learn the game mechanics and get myself a decent team. When i felt confident enough i started playing the rivals placement games and till my own disbelief i won all 5 games. I felt like the world was at my feet and i felt nobody could stop me.

With all the built up confidence i started playing rivals in division 2 and then it happened. One fc moms creditcard after another. Everybody already completed the game with the best teams you could have in such a short time. One trough ball after another and there was nothing i could do! My built up confidence was gone faster as a mbappe sprint trough my defenders.

After contemplating throwing the game out the window i saw the post that changed my fifa forgood. The anti FIFA 21 strat guide where you play 5-2-1-2 with units (not players) to do your job and make all the fifa points spending wannabees ragequit cause they cant overrun you with trough balls anymore.

After getting some good results in rivals i was ready to join the biggest sweatfest fifa has to offer: weekend league. I am just a casual who doesnt always have time to play weekend league. but when i do i usually get gold 3 with 3 games to spare to give you an idea how good i actually am.

I played with the following expendables: Oblak, florenzi, marquinhos, Diego Carlos, Militao, Telles, Paulinho, Casemiro, Coutinho, ANDERSON "GOAT" TALISCA and the man, the myth, the legend Alex Texeira. A team worth 1/5 of most of the squads i faced.

After 29 games i won 20, lost 9 and i got 8 messages in my inbox. I GOT gold 1 with this beautiful playstyle but that is just a bonus. The messages from all those kids sweating their balls off calling me a 5 at the back dropback pussy who never had sex in his life is just priceless! I never had as much fun in fifa as this weekend league

Greedyphantom73 i hope you read this because i want to thank you for taking your time to explain this beautiful playstyle and not keeping it for yourself but letting others enjoy it as well.

Tips from an average player on how to improve your game

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 08:31 AM PDT

I got 14/26 in this WL and while 14 wins isn't a big deal, being I'm an average I was quite happy with it. If you get more than 17 wins on the reg, this post might not be for you. If you're also an average player, continue reading.

My Team: Szczesny, AWB, De Ligt, Militao, Telles, Van de Beek, Fabinho, Gini, Depay, Rodrigo, Richarlison.

Starting formation: 5-3-2. If trailing or feel like I can dominate, either 3-5-2 or 4-1-2-1-2(2) depending on opponent's team.

    1. Have a minimum of 4 formations: 1 defensively stable to start the game. 1 attacking when trailing. 1 to defend a lead. 1 just "I don't give a fuck anymore" formation which is to throw the kitchen sink if trailing by 3 or more.

    2. Do not rage quit: I cannot emphasise this enough. I get 14 wins regularly since the last 2 years and while I don't have proof for this but the only times I've missed getting 14 wins is when I quit games. Losing is fine, just try out some skill moves or just scroll through Twitter or reddit and finish the game. This is even more important this year since you'll get 400 division rival points.

    3. Comebacks are real: I lost a game after being 4-0 up at 71 mins and I've won 2 games after being 3-0 down at half-time. Just try your attacking formations.

    4. Most people suck defensively but are good at attack: Remember this year, you invariably get people can't defend so you'll get your chances. If this means overlooking your own defence and attacking more aggressively that's fine. You score 3, I score 4 mentality.

    5. God squads doesn't equate wins: if you're playing WL, you'll probably have a decent squad. So if you face a side with Mbappe and Neymar don't quit without actually testing it out. I lost only 3 out of 7 games which had Mbappe, Ronaldo, Messi or Neymar in them.

    6. L1 dribbling and R1 Agile dribbling are your friends: Just watch any youtube tutorial and try it out. It'll take a while to get used to it but trust me, you'll be thankful you learned it.

    7. Run the fuck back: If the opponent is counter attacking, just select your centerback and just run the fuck back. There's no other way to tell you this. Just run bro. Once his Ansu Fati or Traore is behind you, it's a goal 9/10 times.

    8. L2+R2 defending: Just hold L2 and R2 and try to cut the passing lanes as much as possible. Master it. Force the opponent to make a mistake. Don't let easy goals to be scored on you, especially in the weekend league.

    9. Move your goalkeeper: Most of the shots will be going to the far post if your opponent is coming from the wing, move your Goalkeeper to try and cover the far post. Best case scenario, you save a goal. Worst case scenario it's an open Goal. But remember you're playing to the higher probability since most goals are being scored at the far post.

    10. Do not play immediately after a bad loss: Yes, we've limited time but if you don't want to give away easy wins, just take a 2 min break after your loss. Go take a piss, drink water. Wank. Whatever you need to do to reset.

Even with few issues with the gameplay, I honestly enjoyed this weekend league. It's frustrating as fuck for the majority of it but well, you're gonna get decent rewards for finishing with 14+ wins so it's worth it.
