A Tactics Guide to the 4231 from an Elite 3 and D1 Player

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 01:48 PM PDT

This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, but I see a lot of people struggling to find a formation that suits them, so I thought I might as well try to help someone out, even if it's just one person.

I'm no pro at FIFA or anything, but I think of myself as pretty competent at the game, and I have no idea whether or not this is a good tactic overall, or how it would hold up for someone better than me, but I've found that it works really well for me, and I want to share it in the hopes that someone will find it useful.

I've also been running the 4231 regularly since FIFA 15 (with random switches to other formations occasionally), so at this point I'm pretty familiar with passing lanes and openings .

    Tactics:

    DEFENSE:

Defensive Style: PRESSURE AFTER POSSESSION LOSS

    • I try to hold possession and not be wasteful by playing risky or low-percentage passes, so I find pressure after possession loss particularly helpful in regaining possession immediately after I lose the ball (ideally near my opponent's box)

    Width and Depth: 5

    • Medium depth and width help me to avoid getting completely caught out on counterattacks, while keeping my players far enough up the pitch to pressure the ball after I lose possession, thus helping pressure after possession loss be more effective.

    OFFENSE:

    Offensive Style: BALANCED

    • Nothing fancy here. I've experimented with other tactics, mainly possession, but I felt that there was not enough movement in the box when I used the possession tactic. Balanced provides a mix of possession and fast build up: allowing me to counter attack if the opportunity presents itself, while also helping to retain possession under pressure and move the ball around quickly when the opponent is sitting back.

    Width: 4

    • Keeps team centered in the pitch while attacking and allows the fullbacks to get forward and provide width without getting too close to wide CAMs.

    Players in Box: 7

    • No explanation for this, just gets a good number of players in the box while keeping enough back to cover a potential counter.

    Corners: 5

    • I like to have all players in the box to create an overload. I usually pass short then pass into the box on corners so the extra players create some confusion. This does leave you very open to counters though.

    Free Kicks: 4

    • Up to you, this one is kind of random.

    Player Instructions:

ST: Stay Central, Get in Behind, Normal Interceptions, Stay Forward.

LCAM and RCAM: Stay Forward, Get Into The Box For Cross, Free Roam, Normal Interceptions

CCAM: Stay Forward, Get Into The Box For Cross, Stick To Position, Normal Interceptions

Both CDMs: Cut Passing Lanes, Stay Back While Attacking, Normal Interceptions, Cover Center

LB and RB: Balanced Attack, Normal Interceptions, Mixed Attack

    CB: No changes from standard

GK: Comes For Crosses, Sweeper Keeper

Overall these instructions provide balance between attack and defense. The CCAM staying central plays the most important role in the team. The CCAM facilitates switches between the wide CAMs and acts as a bridge between the CDMs and the attack.

Balanced fullbacks provide width and help to overload the opposition fullbacks by creating 2 on 1 situations with the wide CAMs but does leave you open to counters.

CDMs staying back provides defensive cover for overlapping/underlapping fullbacks.

    Overall:

I think this formation provides a good, balanced attack and the relatively narrow attack provides openings for the fullbacks to overlap or underlap while maintaining high numbers in the center of the pitch. The higher depth and press after possession loss tactics will leave you susceptible to counter attacks but pacey CBs and fullbacks with high stamina will often be able to recover (you will need to make tactical fouls occasionally to stop some counters).

I currently use a fast striker, but a slower #9 playing as a target man or false 9 allows for better interchange between the CCAM and ST which can pull opposition CBs out of position.

I've also found that using wide CAMs instead of wingers helps me to avoid just hitting random through balls when I get frustrated. The 4231 forces me to play through the channels and helps me to keep a consistent playstyle.

    Notes:

I don't think this is a revolutionary set of tactics, most of them seem like pretty common sense, but hopefully this will help someone or at least give someone another formation to try out!

TLDR: 4231 is good this year, give it a shot.

    New Silver star Objectives

There will always be a cheaper, tradable alternative to a SBC

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 11:25 PM PDT

Sorry for the rant but You guys are starting to annoy me. Everytime EA releases a player you search through the market and find a comparable cheaper card while completely ignoring the point of SBCs.

SBCs aren't here so that everybody gets a perfect Meta card for 10k. They're also not meant to be cheaper because they're untradable. It's the opposite, they're more expensive because they're unique items which can only be acquired trough a SBC. They are not for everyone, they are for the guys who want to have fun with players they like and don't care for playing as most meta effective as possible.

The Beauty of C0-0P FUT is Fifa becomes hilarious

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 08:41 AM PDT

My mate and I play together and tbh he's pretty shit. He constantly slides like a toddler living his best life at a water theme park. I have more vision after a night of sinking piss then he does on the pitch. We lose more games then we win (Rivals and yes, sometimes squad battles on hard difficulties).

And you know what? It's fucking funny. We take the piss out of each other constantly for misplaced passes, missed chance etc. Classic Fifa bullshit is almost completely mitigated by having a laugh with your friend. You stop caring so much about the game and more about enjoying it and having fun.

Give it a try. I appreciate rival reward points make things harder, but 2 man fut is some of the most fun I've had on Fifa in years.

Short Review of some higher tier/ more expensive players!

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:57 PM PDT

Div 1/2 player. Finished 1 win away from gold 1 this weekend rushing my games Sunday night after being busy all weekend & couldn't play the Monday. Just giving a perspective of where my reviews stand. Not going to bother taking in the price point but doing these reviews purely for performance wise. Here's some short reviews of some premium players I've used so far this fifa:

    1. Cristiano Ronaldo

Solid overall card. Has everything you'd want for a striker & his shooting is out of this world. Best striker I've used so far this fifa and isn't clunky whatsoever. Also amazing aerially! He'd be a 10 for me if he wasn't so hard to link without an icon. Solid 9.5/10

    1. Mbappe

Pretty good card. I've only used Mbappe at the ST position and not out wide so others may have different opinions on this but he's a tad clunky compared to Ronaldo. Something was off about his movement. Overall his shooting is insane and dribbling is good & is very rapid on the sprint. It's just his turning that throws me off. 8.5/10

    1. Neymar

Not many negatives to say about this guy. Best on ball feel for a card I've used this year. He's insane and has those glitchy dibbles where it glues to him while trying to get by defenders. Great pace, Great shooting. Only downside is that he's missed a sitter or two this WL that we're shocking but that could've been due to the servers. My favourite CAM/ Winger this fifa hands down. 9.5/10

    1. Baby Kaka

2nd best CAM I've used after Neymar. I've never had a 6'1 player feel this agile and smooth on the ball. He also has very good pace . Thinking of Kaka from last year, I didnt wanna take the chance of wasting coins but I needed a strong link to neymar. Don't regret it one bit. Only downside is his shooting. It was okay and couldn't bang like the top 3 guys could but still pretty good finishing. 8.5/10

    1. Baby Del Piero

Man I used this guy for 5 games and could just not get on with him. My only positive to this guy was that he had okay pace and could bang. But he just seemed so awkward on the ball. I'm sure his low balance plays a part into it but I just couldn't get going with him as my CAM. I like to bring out defenders with some dribble moves but he just felt too clunky and not sharp enough on ball. Could've been suited better at the ST position but didn't bother to try him out there. 7.5/10

    1. IF Saint Maximin

Not exactly premium like the other guys but wow is this card nuts. 100% 2nd best on ball feel and dribbling next to neymar. This guy cuts corners so quick and makes his defenders turn into pylons. And for 70 finishing, he finishes almost everything. I've had the odd sitter miss but he's fairly consistent for that low finishing. I've found him to be amazing on the wing and just as effective as Neymar out wide. Didn't wanna bring price into but he's worth every single coin. He's one of those cards which just feels premium to use despite only having high pace and dribbling. Amazing amazing amazing card to play out wide and break down defences. 9/10

    Red mist clouds my brain

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 03:19 PM PDT

Just after midnight to excited to sleep, now I know im addicted, im in to deep.

Hoping for a red pick like rashford or Depay, but expecting something poor like Goldson or Levi.

Excited for the 100k packs but I will save them for Scream, FUT 21 is all I will see tonight as I dream.

Invested all my spare coins as the road to cantona looks clearer, dreaming of the day he joins my team and I can sell Alan Shearer.

Red Rashford, Red Rashford, Red Rashord on my brain, as a man u fan that would be insane.

Time to calm down now and try to go to sleep, a middle aged man needs to count his sheep.

Please fifa gods bless one and all tomorrow, for if we dont pack someone good this Sub will be filled with sorrow.

EA, PLEASE drop another good silver totw card in objectives

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:59 AM PDT

Last week in silver lounge was the most fun I've had playing FIFA in forever. I bought a good silver team after marquee matchups dropped last week cause they got cheap, tested in for a few games in silver lounge, and now I'm ready to roll. Please tell me this is a weekly thing that will drop with TOTW

I'm a bit worried because it's not a permanent friendly mode. I really hope they see the love it's gotten and decide to let it stick around

    Edit: W

How has it been 5 days and the haaland/Felix team objective is still inherently biased

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 11:18 AM PDT

They really couldn't bother to fix the fact that people who choose haaland have to assist in 5 separate games with a Dortmund player, instead of just 5 total times?

12000 DR points in Div 1 gives you Rank 4.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:03 PM PDT

    Rank 3 req is: 12400

    Rank 2 req is: 13420

    Rank 1 req is: 14890

It's laughable how EA did it, with so little difference in points between them those ranks doesnt make any sense.

Can we talk about how INSANE this upgrade is?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:56 PM PDT

The current Division Rivals solution was just a last-minute band-aid for a wound that didn’t exist.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:56 AM PDT

Don't fret about it too much, EA will have a fix for the 30 game issue very soon. The entire FUT system relies on FOMO, EA need to give people a purpose to login once a day and bring them to the FUT storefront.

If people feel they have no reason to play FUT from Monday-Thursday, the player-base will quickly drop off like flies when they realise that they're not actually missing anything of value, and that they can indeed find other more enjoyable forms of consistent entertainment for themselves.

The daily grind is the addiction that hooks people in, EA are just kicking themselves in the nuts right now. It's losing them money, which means it will be rectified quickly.
