/r/FIFA: The Weekly Fucking Rant Thread

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 03:06 AM PST

As we all know, there is a lot of anger to be had in FIFA. Many controllers have lost their lives in the 90th minute. Some call it handicap. Some call it scripting. Sometimes it's just the general online bullshit that send you into a rage. This is our weekly support group -- where we come to vent and rant against all the things that shouldn't matter, except they do!

    Give in to your anger...

Let the hate flow through you...

What's pissing you off the most in this game we love to hate?

People really need to stop complaining about friendlies.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 03:31 PM PST

If you can't handle losing in friendlies you need to chill the fuck right out. You can literally quit a friendly with zero penalties (nobody cares about how many coins they get after games). Most players quit if you score a few goals, while doing Mollet I probably only finished half the games I won. It's literally the perfect mode for earning a card (yes they should cap the player ratings to stop the Mbappe fest, I know). Rivals is in such a better place because of this, nobody is self relegating any more. How people are being 'toxic' because they are trying to win is absolutely beyond me.

Only to realise I had 6 mls players in my starting squad, not 7

Update: I'm now 7 wins in 7 on my second go round. Gutting to know I'd only have a game or two left if I wasn't stupid enough to sort by USA players instead of MLS. Damn you yedlin

I really hate how we are doing two separate “promos” now for one promo...

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 04:33 PM PST

It's bogus. Get rid of it. 1 team promos have always worked. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The game feels more dead with two separate teams than it did with one haha.

    5 TIPS TO DEFEND PROPERLY

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:04 AM PST

    Introduction

Hey lads, I've seen countless videos of People saying that the Gameplay is rigged this year, while that is true in many cases, but it is far better than what you could do in FIFA 20. This is not to say that FIFA 21 is much better than FIFA 20. It just means that ppl can do better than what they are doing

In those videos, people usually show the live Controller, So I'll be was able to prove my hypothesis as to what people do wrong while defending and ultimately end up blaming the game & Servers when quite a lot of time, they lack the skill to defend properly.

Consider this case, you aren't the only one to have button delay, crazy glitches and Terrible responsiveness. How are pros able to get the best out of themselves when they are having similar conditions such as yourselves. In fact, they can do better with worse players than you can do with better players.

    Requirements :

    • A fast defender medium/high strength OR a slow but Strong defender

    1. Don't Hold LT+RT (L2+R2) or RB when you're covering passing lanes (Situational, check the update) :

This is one of most common mistakes I've seen people make while defending, if you hold LT+RT (L2+R2), everything is discarded, literally, you'll player will essentially only respond to LS movements. He won't even stretch to get a ball and you'll just end up looking at the ball going through you and your opponent scoring the goal in the 92' minute and you labelling that the game as trash while you were holding the wrong button controls. Use this only when you are running towards the ball and alternate between both buttons actively

**Update : Some people seem to have misread my intention here : It's not quite straight forward as "don't use LT+RT (L2+R2)"**This game firstly is terrible. Those 2 buttons work differently in different scenarios. LT+RT generally stops your players to get attracted by the ball. It's better you run and watch with RT only and tackle while holding LT+RT (L2+R2). It's extremely Inconsistent. You'll have to find the balance.

If you're in a footrace with Mbappe using your Varane (Chem : shadow) your player will slow down fast. So it's better you use Tip 5 to catch up and then use LT+RT (L2+R2) to defend.

    2. Know the difference between Soft & Hard tackle and Harder tackle (idk the real name) and when it'll work:

I will describe them according to 3 attributes: Speed, Reach, Power out of 5

    • Soft : When you tap on the Stand tackle button, you do a soft tackle, use it when the opponent is outside the box to commit tactical fouls or necessary ones. ONLY outside the box most of the times.

    Speed - 5/5 , Reach - 1.5/5 , Power - 0.5/5

    • Hard : Somehow people forget this exists in-game, when you that Stand tackle button for a little longer, it increases the strength of the Stand tackle. This is for the games when you play against moderately Meta players with less physical like Teixeira, Gelson Martins, Sterling etc.

    Speed - 3/5 , Reach - 2.5/5 , Power - 2.5/5

    • Harder tackle (idk it's name, so i named it) - RB/R1 + Stand Tackle button. This has the best reach of all, the player can have a wild boar between their legs during this tackle, This tackle is to be used when you're super sure of getting the ball back in one shot and to stop the broken cross or stop the last shot on goal. use this when you are sure the opponent is about to take the shot. But if he does a Fake shot, you're doomed

    Speed - 0.5/5 , Reach - 4/5 , Power - 4/5

    • Sliding : You know this, it's the best this year, especially outside the box BUT WITH A CATCH, use it only when you are running diagonally to the opponent. Side also works most of the time. Use it against all cards. This year it's particularly overpowered bc even if you are the last man to beat the ref chooses to give a Yellow than a Red. Use it to stop shots, passes and also to ruffle some opponent feathers. If you use it wrongly, you'll end up giving the opponent more confidence. If You are running along with mbappe and your tackles are not likely to work, use this, mostly outside the box

    Speed - 3/5 , Reach - 5/5 , Power - 5/5

    3. Don't lose Composure :

    • If you are a good player, it's easy to detect if your opponent good/bad at defending.
    • You'll literally look at your opponent pulling players out of their positions, you'll also be able to let them scratching their heads while they try every amateur page on the book to stop you from scoring.
    • You should be able beat these players, these are toughest ones as the algorithm tends to help them most.
    • These players are pretty 1 Dimensional & They usually have only 1-2 way to attack, if they go for long balls, switch to a defensive formation like 532. Then when they realize they can't do much, so change the formation to your defaults to attack like you usually do
    • Your composure when your is inside your box extremely key to get those extra wins

    4. About Bringing the GK out :

    • This is a tough one, Chip shots are too OP this year. if you know how to control the GK use it, but only when you know atleast 60% what the opponent is likely to do
    • Bring the GK out when your opponent is almost 90% Likely to score,
    • Bring the GK out when you have 2 defenders closing the gap SIDEWAYS with the opponent player, this especially works against Meta players. This will leave them helpless as they have very less chance to take the shot and scoring, so expect a fake stop with 1 player and defend with another. Also expect the opponent to go back, when he does so, switch your CDMs to win the ball back which leaves the opponent in the dust
    • Updated : also pointed out by Marwinz -
Be Unpredictable when moving the GK, don't call out goalkeepers. Move em Left right, tap the Y and let the GK run back to the line, I can validate this point, as I've save a lot of chips while just allowing the GK to run back to the line as the opponent mistakes it as a panic run by the GK and panic-shoots

    5. Know where to run with your Defenders:

    • If your opponent player is faster and your player is slower then you better run straight to the goal and mark the guy whos running in the middle first
    • Especially if you opponent runs through the wing understand that He's likely to do only 4 things, Cut Inside, Cross, Go back or Skill through ppl.
    • So while he takes the round trip around the wing, you'll be waiting in the box to block/tackle. This leaves the opponent with a false sense of security.
    • Understand that the Ultimate goal of your opponent is the goal and no matter where he runs, he has to end up in your box to score and win

This concludes the 5 things which i wanted to share, if you have any tips, leave it in the comments, I'll add it with credit. Hopefully you guys can get some additional wins from this and waste less time on your games.

    See ya lads.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 02:21 PM PST

..is actually play the game. I really enjoy building the team, doing sbc and make market. But playing is fucking stressfull, expecially during the WL with inconsistent gameplay: every single game feels different from the last one and you're just praying that you won't have button delay/LAG/randomshit in the next one. I don't know, i think it's the only game with the same issues since 2010: i hope EA have fixed these problems in the imminent next gen.

    My Weekend League

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 05:28 PM PST

Just thought I'd take the opportunity to share my weekend league experience with everyone as it was certainly something:

As a usual Gold 1 player, with one elite finish to my name (Fifa 20), I usually start the weekend fairly well at around 10-2 or something along those lines however after 14 games I felt like my thumbs didn't work, my buttons were all the same, and my players were running in sand, and found myself 7-7. I was at a point further than anger, deflation. As a result I decided to play a more casual style of Fifa where I sat back, watched a Netflix series and if I won, I won.

I won 3 in a row to get to 10-7 with elite technically (but almost impossibly) on. The introduction of RB Douglas Costa and RTTF Zakaria playing CB and Baby Petit moving to cdm on Sunday I managed to find myself at 13-7 after 6 wins in a row on Sunday.

Despite the opponents becoming tougher I continued to win game after game, by the skin of my teeth. Before I knew it I had 3 games to get elite. I won the next game on penalties, my first penalty shootout win of Fifa 21 after 5 attempts,( many thanks to my friend who told me which way to go every time). It got down to the last game, 15 back to back wins, 7-7 to 22-7, surely I couldn't bottle it.

I went 1-0 up before being 2-1 down then 3-2 down with 10 minutes left. The dream faded in my mind however I managed to work a bit of space for Rashford to equalise. As I prepared for extra time I found myself with the ball in the corner with 89:32 on the clock. I whipped it in to the front post and won the header but it was saved, but only parried. It rolled across the goal line in slow motion, I frantically pressed all buttons, praying someone got there, someone did.

Joe Gomez 90' winner first goal for the club. 16 in a row. Elite 3.

Never been happier after a Fifa game, I had my own Agueroooooooo moment and it showed me why we all play Fifa despite the below average gameplay.

You probably haven't read this far but if you have then don't give up this Weekend League, there's always a chance when you have Joe Gomez, and I'm pretty sure most of you do!
