Why is noone talking about how bad (misplaced, mispowered, misdirected) and broken through balls are?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 12:44 PM PST

I actually saw people on this sub saying through balls "are OP". I feel like insulting those people for some reason, but I refrain myself. Are we even playing the same game?

For me, 1/3 through balls is either mispowered or misdirected. If it's near the opponent penalty area? 4/5 at least will be like that. It's just insane how bad they are.

I know how it will sound for some of you "smartasses" around here (and you aren't few), but I strongly feel I'd be twice the player if through balls went accordingly. I use them a lot in offence, as I don't use skills (as most of the players do). They're so underwhelming, it hurts. If the input would've worked well, I could create waaaaaaaaay more clear opportunities on goal. But no, the way this sh*t arcade game is designed, it rewards skills by glitching/stunning your defenders, and not passing, as a FOOTBALL VIDEO GAME should.

It's so disappointing knowing you were in a very good spot, you placed the right direction, right power, only to see another ball going straight where you didn't meant to.

And the fact this is barely been talked around this sub, says a lot I think. Through balls, one of the cores of offensive play, being absolutely garbage, and this is acceptable? Myeah, what more can I say...

The worst thing is, I don't think they will ever get improved. Not even in fifa 22. A shame of a game...

This is FIFA 19. The last good content game we had. Nowadays every single SBC is a scam. Disgraceful.

Although you were shit, you will be missed. I really wish EA would make them last the whole year, they're a fun thing to look forward to on a Sunday night.

The only classic ball we need

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 12:33 PM PST

My favourite thing about this game is the moment you realise that you’re actually better than someone.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 04:43 PM PST

And then you start strategically taking them apart, thinking about every pass as opposed to instinctually clinging on by your fingernails scrapping results.

    It's a nice feeling..

    Rare, but nice.

    TOTW SBC Requirements (untradeable)

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 10:00 AM PST

Result of 3 Icon Sbc's, used all my packluck

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 08:32 PM PST

Psa: An untradeable <80 if is unusable in sbcs and pretty much has the same value as a Gold card with the same rating.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 10:58 AM PST

Just so you know what you're getting into before you decide to take a shit at the new tdw sbc.

Ea doesn't give you a way to recycle your bad pulls. They drag the rating down to much in pretty much all sbcs that need a tdw so you re better of completing the sbc without them. You put players worth ~20k in a sbc that probably will give you a 700 coin player in return.

How I went from a weekly Gold 1/2 player, to Elite 2 this weekend. (Tips, details, 41212(2) formation, squad)

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 08:00 PM PST

First off, I wanted to say Happy Holidays to the FIFA community. This reddit page has provided me with a tremendous amount of information over the years and I felt the need to finally give back. If you're a weekly Gold finisher in FUT champs, struggling to get over the hump to Elite, or even a silver player looking to finally reach gold, hopefully this mini guide will help you. Some quick background before I get into some things I did differently this weekend and how they worked. I've been playing FIFA since about 2011, I would say i'm an above average player, between casual and competitive. I've always been decent at FIFA, but never really "tried" to take it to the next level. The past couple years I've just been playing FUT champs on weekends I'm free, usually finishing between Gold 1-2. I hit Elite 3 once, and that was it. This weekend, I had no expectations to hit Elite, but it happened, and it happened to be my best ever finish in FIFA, Elite 2 (25-5).

Here are some things I did/tips to get over the hump from Gold to Elite:

    1. Space out your games. I recommend going with the 10/10/10 strategy. 10 games each day of the weekend. This weekend I did 15/15, since Friday was Christmas and I was unable to play. 15/15 is not bad either, but 15 games in 1 day can become tiring I will admit.

    2. Play warm up games before you hop into your weekend league set. I usually played 1-2 Rivals games before I went into any weekend league games. It's good to get the fingers warmed up and your mind focused on FIFA.

    3. Take breaks. This was very important for me this weekend. I know it's tempting to just keep going after you get a couple wins, or a couple a L's in a row... but trust me, taking breaks will do wonders for your record. For this weekend, if I lost, I logged off and went and did other things, then came back some time later and continued the grind. I also did this for when I went on a win streak as well. 2, 3, 4 wins in a row, then I'd take a short break.

    4. Practice manual defending. I believe this was the biggest key for me this weekend, as I consider myself to be a very very good defender. I do not play drop back or park the bus style defense, I play a high depth (7/8) and it's very important for me to be confident when using and switching between my back 4. I had multiple messages from very good players this weekend, complimenting my defense. LT is your best friend for defending, and then the rest is all about timing/switching between players and knowing when to engage into a tackle. Practice, practice, practice. Letting the AI defend for you will work in some instances, but eventually you will get burned for it.

    5. Learn basic skills moves. Let me be clear, I am NO skiller by any means. I rarely ever use skills moves to be completely honest. But knowing how to do some basic ones such as stepovers, pushing the ball forward, fake shots, etc. will help you get by those park the bus type players. I heavily rely on my passing and ability to defend to win my games, however mastering skills will elevate your gameplay. I've just never been a skiller, but at the very least I made sure I know how to use the basic ones.

    6. Stay calm and cool during your games. You will get scored on, EA will implement some BS into your game, tackles you make will bounce off your defender right to the opponent. These things will happen, it's unavoidable. It's how you react to these is what's important. You have to learn how to brush these off and move on. Stay focused. There's been too many times where I've let the "EA cheese" get the best of me and I'll start on a downward spiral in my game. Just forcing passes, making dumb tackles, clinical errors. This weekend I made it my goal to not let these things effect me, and it worked wonders.

    7. Using your possession of the ball to the maximum effect. Now, you do not need to dominate possession every single game. I've won many games where I've lost possession like 40/60. But, I will say, games where I've dominated possession have been much easier. Do not force unnecessary passes. Do not be afraid to pull the ball back, reset, and pass it around. Your players will make runs, eventually. Be patient, find the gaps, hit the passes. It's better for you to have the ball, rather then making a forced pass and now your opponent is on a counter attack. Patience patience patience is key.

    8. Be comfortable in your setting/environment. You need to make sure wherever you're playing, you're comfortable. If you're playing in an area of your house with a lot of distractions, you will lose more games. I have my Xbox set up in my room and personally play my favorite music on my Bluetooth speaker and just zone in. I've heard others can only play with the actual FIFA sound and commentators on. It's personal preference, but you need to make sure your playing set up fits your mold.

    9. Final tip. Have 3 super subs and USE THEM. I cannot stress this enough. Having 3 super subs come on in the 60-75th minute can be game changing. People often forget to actually pause and sub in some players. Use this to your advantage. For example, my 3 super subs atm are 2IF Lozano, RTTF Felipe Anderson and my 3rd usually alternates between Attal or De Bruyne depending on what I need. Putting on Anderson and Lozano leads to some very easy goals. The blistering pace is too much for a worn down defense most of the times. You have subs for a reason, use them.

Now, this is the team I used this weekend. DISCLAIMER* I have a very very meta team. Yes I know this, yes I realize it's not the most "fun" to use. But it did get me Elite 2 and I'll leave it at that :)

    Pregame squad: https://www.futbin.com/21/squad/4662873

    In-game squad: https://www.futbin.com/21/squad/4662926

If enough people request it, I will post my custom tactics and player instructions I used for the 41212(2) for the entire weekend league. I will also do player reviews for each player at their position if also requested.

I hope this post helps some of you out. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. I'm not a pro, but I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. Cheers!

There's nothing like having to play an entire WL on Sunday to realise how dogshit the commentary is on this game.

The yellow T90 ball was amazing, but it would be even better if we could also get the blue one. So much nostalgia.
