24 hours to save your wallet

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 09:25 AM PST

If you read anything in the next 24 hours - let it be this....

In Jan 2018 FUTWIZ spent 850k Fifa Points before getting a TOTY (who then got one with a coin pack). That's $6,380 (with EA Access)

iGoldenBear opened over 10,000,000 coins worth of packs before getting a blue.

That's approx. $2,500 worth of packs.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY FIFA POINTS!

If you have disposable income to burn, buy something for your loved ones instead.

In a years time that gesture will be remembered more than packing Tadic.

Ode to TOTY from an old man

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 03:44 PM PST

Only 1 sleep to go, will my excitement turn to joy? I keep my expectations low, it seems to be a good ploy!

With millions hoping to pack a blue, will I finally be one of the lucky few? I would be delighted if I do!

So many of us with packs saved, the pack openings will be fun. The endles recycling of dupes braved, so the dice again can be run.

A card to last until September, a moment to remember!

Finally I can build a strong team, after months of market plays and grinding games. Maybe afford a blue midfielder would be a dream, as long as its blue id take any of the names.

    VVD? KDB? Lewendowski?

It is sad Muller was not included, but I think he gets an SBC, I might be deluded, with hindsight we will see!

Let the grinding of the menus begin, and good luck to all who will try. If you dont play you cant win, but dont overextend yourself for that high.

Dont buy fifa points if you can't afford it, make sure your money is used smartly and you will be rewarded.

Time to sleep now, as I hope all cards are in packs tomorrow. I hope that somehow, the fifa gods have luck I can borrow.

One more sleep, one more sleep, one more sleep.

My argument for why I think the full TOTY comes out tomorrow

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 05:26 PM PST

Since we can't stop speculating about what EA will do tomorrow for TOTY, I decided to give my two cents as to why I think it's likely they release the full team at once instead of the usual staged release.

First, we need to look at how much the TOTY release changed in recent years. TOTY used to come out mondays with defenders being in packs for two days, then midfielders for two days, attackers out on friday and finally the full team release on saturday. Last year, it started with attackers for one day, midfielders one day, defenders one day, full team released thursday and 12th man added on friday.

Now, why is this important? To me it shows that the slow "build the hype up" release wasn't working financially for EA. They clearly changed to attackers first to try and get some FP sales right at the beginning and double dip once the full team was out. Which means their (even slower) strategy was a bust. And the fact that it will start on a friday this year makes me think they also realized (obviously) that the engagement would be a lot higher starting on a weekend.

And that adds up to the problem with the slow release: people know that they'll release the full team later. So it doesn't make sense to try your (shocking) luck in packs when you only have a few players available. So even tho some big whales will 100% spend since day one, the truth is they'll spend no matter what. They'll spend just as much in the second day with only midfielders in packs as they'll spend in the 8th day of the full team being out. But a large part of the community will wait.

And that's what doesn't make sense financially for them. It's the biggest promo of the year. It's no doubt the moment players spend the most on FP and play the game the most. It makes absolutely no sense for them to do something that makes a large part of their community to think "nah, I'll wait a few more days to start spending".

What I don't think people realize is how much FP is spend on packs outside lightning rounds. They see the lightning rounds selling in 5 mins with only defenders in packs and think "OMG, look how much money EA just made!". Truth is people spend WAY MORE than just during lightning rounds. And that's a big problem for when you only have part of the team out in packs. Who the hell (whales excluded) is opening 15k packs if only the defenders are in packs?

Financially, I just think it makes a lot more sense to have the full team in packs and do lightning rounds, promo packs and 15k packs for 10 days. Those lightning rounds will sell with the full team in packs no matter how long they're there for, it's not just about hype. And having the full team out through two weekends makes it more likely that people will double dip for FP than having only a few players out at a time during week days.

With that being said, cue the "attackers available for 3 days" coming out tomorrow... Kappa

TL:DR- It makes more financial sense for EA to have the full team out in their biggest promo of the year for 10 days than their usual slow release that make so many people think "nah, I'll wait to spend money later".

If I give you 1 or 2 free goals for rivals points, don’t do some long dance

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:06 PM PST

Played a couple of opponents now that do those dances that take an hour with their whole squad after I've gifted them a couple goals in the last minute when I'm comfortably leading. This game honestly has the most toxic player base of any game I've played.

90% of this subreddit does not realize all of FIFAs issues are exclusively due to EA's connection system

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:48 PM PST

UPDATES/EDIT: Thanks to all for upvoting visibility and adding to the discussion. To be clear I am not in denial that scripting exists - there are code leaks that clearly show EA dynamically adjusts sliders depending on match statistics. Now, it is NOT clear to me whether this exists solely for player vs. AI modes like Squad Battles (and I have absolutely felt the sliders being adjusted after going up 2-0 in the first 10 mins against AI) OR in all game modes. Two points to that...1) I am shocked no verified EA employee has leaked more on this. If for example they moved jobs to work at Amazon, it is pretty easy to post as an anonymous whistleblower these days. 2) Fixing connection issues is vastly more important and realistic to achieve relatively equal and fair gameplay. If EA want to nerf stepovers, they nerf stepovers, nothing you or I can do about it. Let's demand the bare minimum first, which is a modernized networking setup so we KNOW that poor gameplay is then due to other factors.

    *************************

I'm so sick of posts whining about scripting, DDA, post-patch gameplay, etc.

Why can't this community collectively use its 487,000 members to force EA to address it's abysmal net code, server setup, and general connection settings. From my research, the core issues with this game appear OVER and OVER again. You probably wouldn't be surprised that forums from FIFA 14 are eerily identical to complaints in FIFA 21. The players feel slow, the passes/shooting feel off, balls glitch through defenders...it's the same year after year.

Stop giving EA a pass by claiming it's due to scripting or some clever code they've implemented to keep players addicted. ITS THEIR PATHETIC, OUTDATED, AND OUTRIGHT LAZY NETWORKING TEAM. Notice how EA is purposefully vague when it comes to describing their matchmaking procedure and server setup. They've kept this hidden for years because they know how utterly broken and cheap their system is.

Every game you play online, and I mean EVERY game, immediately puts you at an advantage or disadvantage depending on connection. Even if you have an amazing ISP with fiber/gigabit services and 2 ping, you can still lose exclusively due to how EA deals with disparate connections. If you end up matching with someone from the Bermuda triangle, EA specifically has code to slow down your gameplay so that the match is at a similar time (i.e. you both end up at the 50th minute at the same time). If you have a mediocre connection because you live further from EA's servers, your players take longer to respond, and code animations simply wont register in time (for example, EA doesn't think your defender is there to block the shot, and the ball glitches through them). That's not scripting, that's connection.

This game will never be a fair competition unless EA can modernize their servers. Year after year after year they have chosen not to, simply because it saves money. It is absurd that you are not able to choose a dedicated server to always connect to. It is pathetic that we have the capability to experience seamless connectivity in 100v100 battle royale games yet EA chooses to use their old system and save a couple million for executive bonuses. It is unbelievable that their servers can't handle high and completely predictable traffic during Weekend League or promos.

I love football and I actually enjoy FIFA when I'm playing against someone on a level playing field (similar ping, distance to server, etc). This will never consistently happen for most of us until the community finds a way to put EA in the spotlight. I know I'm just ranting and don't have a solution, but I'm really hoping this can get some traction so we can collectively find a way to address the most broken aspect of what could be a great game.

Does anyone else feel like shots at an open goal have an unrealistically high chance of being cleared off the line?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 02:45 PM PST

I've played this game for about a month, and I can say I enjoy it much better than 19 and 20 however I've noticed that when my striker shoots at an open goal with a defender on the line my rate of scoring is quite low. It's not even the defender making an insane block, it's more that assisted shooting shoots the ball at the defender instead of anywhere else into the open goal.

I was just wondering if I'm just getting unlucky or if other people noticed this in their games too.

It's most likely the next promo and I'm excited for it honestly. It's imo the best promo of the year and I couldn't care less about TOTY. I know I'm probably not going to get any TOTY cards and while I don't mind it, I just don't care much about it. Would be great if they just get on with it and hopefully Future Stars is next week.

Forget about hoarding packs or FIFA points, my strategy to pack a TOTY is to stop playing for a week

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 08:15 AM PST

The only time this year when I stopped playing FIFA for a week, I packed M'bappe, Lahm, and IF Florenzi the same day, IF Florenzi and Lahm in the same mega pack. It's a complete tinfoil hat theory, but I'm certainly going to test it for TOTY, I won't open FIFA until the full team is in packs and we have upgrade packs. and hopefully EA's analytics will pick up on that and will try to boost my engagement. (That's what I'd do if I were them).

If they give out loans on the 12th man TOTY vote, Neymar will automatically win because of Friendlies

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 10:38 AM PST

Assuming that Messi and Ronaldo will make it to the starting XI, if EA uses the old system vote on the 12th man pick the voting may actually be rigged because of Friendlies.

Since pretty much everybody already has a Loan Mbappe, people will simply pick Neymar to be able to use him in Friendlies. Surely no one will want an 85 Loan Thiago, so Neymar shall have the 12th Man vote more than secured.

    Unnecessary hate on POTM Yazici

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 03:02 PM PST

I don't understand this community at times, hating on the card just because it isn't meta. Card is not insane, but trashing it like it's POTM Stindl is just disgraceful. With an engine card looks sick as a CAM. I think anyone who has a Ligue 1 squad should do the card. It's fun to use a card which is outside the box, no need to use meta and be sweats all the time guys.

Anyone feel a bit bummed out by the TOTY promo?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 08:15 AM PST

I appreciate it's a big promo and produces and celebrates the best players over the last year, but in a gaming sense for FUT for an above average player like myself, it's just not engaging.

I have an above average team which is worth like 1.5m atm (half SBC players) and I currently have 300k coins, I'll never be able to afford a TOTY player neither am I buying Fifa points in the chance of packing one. I'm not bothered about saving packs for it either.

So for this, presumably 2 week promo my only excitement is to look forward to any decent SBCs which come up, the last promo was like this and it's annoying because as time goes on it feels like the promos are more and more out of reach for a player like me who doesn't necessarily grind the hardest (still play every WL but I'm a G3 player) nor do I spend a ton on FP or invest. Not a moan, just wish there was some affordable promo players on the horizon! I look forward to trying to defend against these TOTY players!
