Icon SBC Pulls will no longer be allowed outside a Megathread

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 07:57 AM PST

Due to a lot of feedback we have recently received via sub reports and Modmails, Icon pulls from Icon Swaps or Icon SBC's will be treated the same way as general pack pulls and will no longer be allowed outside a dedicated Pack Pull Megathread.

We will soon be posting our yearly voting thread where the community will get a chance to vote on whether other repeated topics should be allowed to be posted or not.

An example of last year's thread can be found here

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback via the appropriate channels!

I was on a massive losing streak on Saturday and Sunday and spent 420k on a goalkeeper.

Let that be a lesson to you to just ride it out because now I have mid Yashin in my club having lost almost 50k in his value and he's not really any better than 90 Neuer or even 85 Gulacsi. They're all the bloody same really.

And to top it off, that one didn't even come with the fucking hat...

Elite 3 --> Elite 1 "Guide", why the META is so important!

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 01:34 PM PST

I've been an Elite FIFA player almost every FIFA and from time to time hit Elite 1. On Dec 27th weekend, I managed to hit Elite 1 for the first time in FIFA 21! Although I've been close a couple times (once started 20-0 and managed to only go 5-4 to end elite 2!).

Every other weekend of WL I've hit Elite 3 minimum. I was running a 4-3-3 (2) formation in the past because it's my favorite formation and really love the way it plays. I was also running a semi "budget" squad (https://imgur.com/a/lzl3c7P) with untradeable Salah + POTM Son + RB Talisca + Paulinho + Untradeable Van Dijk, ... tbh I don't like playing meta and I used to play with Bronze players in Div 1 (Bronze Thorgan Hazard was the man) back when seasons was a thing.

On Christmas day I managed to get MAJORLY lucky and packed Neymar untradeable in the 80+ PP. Because it was the last weekend to try for Elite 1 to get verified and because I packed Neymar, I decided to go all in (had about 1.8m coins) and build an insanely meta squad and switched my formation to 4-4-2 (2) (of course META).

The team I built is here: https://imgur.com/a/kW7aSyJ (Salah + Neymar + Van Dijk + Kante all untradeable -- lucky as hell).

The difference made by adding Mbappe + Blanc to the team was insane. I started 14-0 on Saturday, started 0-2 on Sunday (WARMUP! Don't play games without warmups!!), got to 18-3 and then won 9 straight to 27-3.

In no game did I feel overmatched, and in no game did it feel like I should lose. The amount of BS that went against me that weekend was virtually 0 and I got a bunch of BS.

Previous WL's with my "budget squad" I had a ton of "BS" go against me. Tackles that went back to the attacker, glitchy bridges, wonky rebound goals, you name it. Adding Blanc + Adam to the defense vs. Gomez + Reguilon just stopped all of that. Adding Mbappe + Neymar to the team GAVE ME those BS goals -- bounce back directly into the path, rebounds, you name it.

Switching from the 4-3-3 (2) to the 4-4-2 (2) made scoring and defending much easier. I was able to benefit some from those stupid long through balls, defending became easier as there were 2 CDM's clogging the lane, and having 2 ST made scoring around the box easier as well. With the 4-3-3 (2) if teams played compact, it was hard to get through sometimes, but with the 4-4-2 I was able to play "iso ball" sometimes and isolate my ST against CB's, so one skill move broke through.

tldr; the META is real and insane. I attribute getting Elite 1 (when a regular elite 3/2 finisher) solely to buying Mbappe + Blanc and then going 4-4-2 to go super meta. I don't think I would've hit elite 1 without this full meta layout.

    PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS:

GK - sweeper keeper / comes for crosses

RB - BALANCED (important for me! able to overload sides by attacking with the fullbacks)

LB - BALANCED (same as above)

    CB's - default

CDM (kante) - Stay back while attacking, cut passing lanes, cover center -- kante would stay back and clean up any mess that came out. He's OK at going forwards but not the best

CDM (aouar) - balanced, cut passing lanes, cover center. I advise having one CDM going forward. If both are on stay back (in my most defensive formation, I have them both staying back), it's hard to generate offense except if you just play counter attack. I don't like doing that so I like one of my CDM's pushing forward.

LM / RM (Salah / Son, and later Mbappe / Son) - get in behind, free roam, get into box for crosses -- I find free roam is better than cut inside as it utilizes the attacking intelligence of the players (so players with high attack positioning are good here). Son / Salah would constantly move away from the wing in the attacking third to generate overloads in the center and on the opposite side (helps a lot with my fullbacks getting forward to occupy their space) and create easy 2v1's and goal opportunities.

ST (Neymar / Mbappe / Salah) -- get in behind. of course to go full meta I had to try both strikers on Get in Behind and let me tell you it works! It's hard to defend as the players are super fast and if you put in a good through ball, you're either through on goal or 1v1 against the defender. Neymar is better than Mbappe but Mbappe is very good (mbappe's finishing is lacking sometimes, he scores normal goals but Neymar scores crazy goals).

So if you're in Elite 3 and you want to get to Elite 1, GO AS META AS POSSIBLE! It works!

    EDIT: Other Tactics:

I play balanced defensively, 5 bar width, 6 bar depth

Offensively, 6 bar width, 7 bar get in the box, 3 bar FK + Corners.

If I'm trying to sweat a lead, I'll switch to a more defensive tactic with everyone on stay back while attacking / come back on defense and 5 bar width, 4 bar depth.

If I'm behind by 1 goal and I can't generate any attack with 442 (2), I'll switch to 4-1-2-1-2 (WIDE VARIATION), and have only CDM on stay back, everyone else on balanced and play 7 depth.

If I'm behind super late in the game, I'll switch to 3412 with constant pressure on 8 depth

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care if my opponent scores first and pauses for me while doing icon swaps, I’ll quit anyway

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 06:37 AM PST

As a community it's great that we managed to stick to the golden goal rule for swaps. So what if the other person pauses for you? I don't get it. Why waste so much time just to get back at them? Just move on to the next game and save yourselves 15 minutes. You could literally complete 3-4 matches of golden goal in the time of one full game. This is just what I feel..

From FUT 13 straight to FUT 21, what changed?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2021 11:29 AM PST

This year I started playing Fifa again. My last fut experience was FUT 13, I'll say here what I think changed and didn't, what is positive or not.

    1) Meta players impact

As far as I remember, meta players in FUT 13 was not as impactful as meta players are now. Of course we had also players that were OP (like David Luiz Ogbonna Wellington...) but I feel like the gap was not as important as actual meta players. The defense Mendy Varane Gomez Walker is used by almost everybody I'm going against. I remember more versatility because even if some players where OP, the gap was not as huge as today. This result in more versatility. Nowadays I feel like playing the same 8 players every games. I think this is a negative change that affect the happiness of playing.

    2) Rewards / Promo

This is a huge positive change. Back in FUT 13, rewards didn't exist. Neither was WL. To get enough money to play players you liked would take you so much time and games. There was no pack rewards. I didn't open a single pack in FUT 13 as I don't put money in the game. Now in FUT 21 you have rewards, packs to open, and this every week. It's a great addition and I could build me team of non meta players really quickly. The only thing I think could improve is the time you need to spend in the game to get those rewards, 30 games every week-end, Squad Battles games that are boring and take too much time. But this is a huge positive change and there are actually lot of versatility, WL, Rivals, Squad Battle, Friendlies. That's a huge W, and rewards are good even if the time required is a bit too much. The downside is that there are so many promo cards that are so powerful to make your cards weaker to keep you grinding. Promos can be good, not when the sole purpose is to make your cards irrelevant and make you splash money to get better cards.

    3) Untradable cards - SBC

This is a neutral change. Their addition in the game is a great thing for players who just want to play with any good players. Pros : you get double rewards. Cons : you're limited to players you get and SBC EA choose to give us. If you're a player that just want to play with any good players, this is a good thing, just open untradable and play with the best players you get out of it, splash the rest in SBC to try to get even better players -> repeat. For players that want specific players (like me) it's not that great as it locks you into SBC and players you pick. That's why I recommend choosing tradable rewards of you want specific players. SBC are really cool and a great thing as this makes players you get in packs keep some of their value throughout the year. The only negative point is when the rewards are untradable (for SBC I understand, but for packs you get from objectives it's not that great). Positive thing.

    4) Gameplay (skill moves)

The gameplay changed a lot but one thing didn't, how Pace is important. This will probably last forever. The gameplay improved a lot, positively, except for one huge negative thing : skill moves. Skill moves where already a thing back in FUT 13, but it wasn't OP, it was great. Nowadays, roll balls and step overs are too game defining and are overused. Andres Verjgang for exemple is doing them at every single touch, either ball rolls, either step overs. And this is really bad because it makes the game completely unreal. In real life, you don't make ball rolls and step overs every time you touch the ball, and this shouldn't be a thing either in FIFA, it's like salt, without it it's tasteless, but with too much it's inedible.

    5) Hidden casinos

This is something that didn't change and is a huge L. This game is a casinos when you want to put money into. And this is really bad. No control about packs odds, thousands of money can be put into the game without having the best cards out of packs, etc. This is something really important that EA needs to address, even more when you're client are vastly youngster (12 - 22 Years old). Casinos are forbidden for them for a reasons addictiveness is a thing that's real and shouldn't be hidden in games that are meant to be fun. If you go to a casinos, you know where you're putting you foot in, when your mums buys you fifa when your 14, you don't (neither she does).

    6) Objectives and season pas

Good content that were added on, makes the game less boring.

    7) A feeling that it's more about the money than the game

When playing to other games, even if money is involved, it doesn't feel as if the only reasons they made the game was to take money from you. You can feel that they are passionate about it. Don't take me wrong, trying to make money isn't a problem. But with EA, it feels like they aren't playing their own game, because some things are so infuriating that it's not good. I would gladly put some money into the game if I felt that they were passionate and they tried to make the game better for their player base. But that's not how it is with FIFA. It's seems like every move they are doing is to make you spend money one way or another. And that's a huge L.

In conclusion, a lot of things improved the game, but EA's will to take all of our money is still present and won't change. I wish this licence was bought by a better company that cares about the actual game and only about the money it makes would be great.

What's your opinion about all these? I have probably forgotten things, what can you add? Feel free to comment and thanks for reading.
