    r/FIFA's 2021 Content Voting Megathread

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 08:03 AM PST

As we usually do every year, it is once again time to vote on content that should be allowed and content that should not be allowed within our sub.

A lot of times, a vote is not necessary, like when we announced that Icon SBC Pulls were not going to be allowed outside a megathread last month. But sometimes, we need your help to help us decide on topics you think don't add anything new to the sub and therefore should be removed.

Contrary to popular belief, r/FIFA moderators enforce rules voted on by the community and not just because we want to.

Great examples of this would be like when the community decided to temporarily get rid of the Daily Squad Thread and allow individual squad posts to be posted in the sub only to then revert the rule change in less than 48 hours because the sub got flooded with people flexing their squads and nothing else but squad posts. The community quickly voiced their opinion in individual posts and modmails that the Daily Squad Thread was a necessary thing and it needed to be back.

A second example of this would be back when r/FIFA allowed memes to be posted during "Meme Monday" only to go back to not allowing them within just a couple of weeks due to the amount of very low quality/low effort memes the community was posting.

With that in mind....here are our voting polls:

    • Concept Cards Posts (someone creating a card that doesn't or will never exist, example, Icon CR7 or some local hometown hero no one knows about)

    • Card Predictions (Neymar had a great game this weekend, this is how his IF might look or here's my prediction for Futue Stars Team #2)

    • Card Sniping (I sniped Prime Icon R9 for 200k!)

    • Weekend League Reviews/Finishes (Note: we currently only allow WL reviews when a post actually has text and OP is including tactics or tips on gameplay. If it's just a picture of an app showing WL record, we are removing them)

    • Past & Present Squads (Here's the 48th Manchester United Past & Present Squad post)

    • XBL/PSN Messages (the classic conversation of someone being toxic/asking for free wins/etc)

On a separate but similar topic, we need your help on a new rule we want to implement related to the quality of the videos (and pictures) that are posted in the sub. Should we allow posts of gameplay videos/goals that consist of someone recording their tv screen/monitor? (that usually look far away and honestly like shit)

Other constantly repeated posts that are already getting automatically removed can be found in the r/FIFA Wiki

We will be pinning this thread a few times for at least 1-2 weeks and will let you all know before voting ends.

Mid-Year Updates to the 352 Guide from an Elite 1 Player | FAQs, Changes, and Thoughts on the 532

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 04:11 PM PST

    Summary

Earlier this year, I wrote a guide for the 352 tactics I use to earn Elite finishes in the weekend league. I am glad that all of you continue to enjoy the 352. The engagement on that post (and in my direct messages) has been great and continues to this day.

I've been getting a lot of similar questions recently and so I figured I would put out a little update to my guide. This post won't be as in-depth as the one I linked above, but rather will attempt to answer some of the frequently asked questions, outline changes I have made to the setup, and address the new addition to the 4231/442 meta; the 532 -- no, 532 is not better than 352, if you are prepared for it.

Guess Who's Back To Tell you somethin'

    Table Of Contents

    • FAQs
      • Includes all my WL finishes thus far and the teams I've used
    • Updates to the 352
    • Thoughts on how the 352 stacks up to the 532
      • 352 doesn't hard counter 532 like it does the 4231/442. But you can still outmaneuver your opponents with the right tactics

    Frequently Asked Questions

I got a list, Here's the order of my list that it's in, it goes Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Biggie, André from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me and in no particular order here we go.

    • "Can I use FB Robben as my RM?"
      • A lot of you completed Robben, eh? I wouldn't, he's better utilized as either a CAM or a RS (as a RS, cut onto the left for a finesse, shoot near post with outside the foot). But if you really want to score screamers with him cutting in from the wing, you should offset his abysmal defensive skills on the right with someone much more defensive at LM.
    • "Of these 3 players I plan to use as my CBs, which should I play where?"
      • Priority list: slowest/least agile in the middle, lefty on the left, righty on the right. If you don't have a lefty out of your 2 remaining CBs, put the one with better weak foot at LCB.
    • "Of these 3 attackers I plan to use, who should play where?"
      • Most agile player should be your CAM. If your players have 4 star weak foot or better, it doesn't matter which striker spot they take up. If they have 3 or less (like that Robben card), play them on their weak foot side (that is, Lefty at RS and Righty and LS).
    • "Can Walker play RM?"
      • Y'all really need that Gomez link, smh. He can do in a pinch but I would not use him as my RM. I would use walker at RCB. He's not very good going forward.
    • "What do you think of this team I built? Any suggestions?"
      • Probably. Keep them coming and I'll keep reviewing them. But if you're a dick to me in my messages because I didn't answer fast enough to satisfy your personal timeline, then I will not be answering you.
    • "How did your TOTY pack project end up?"
      • I saved more than 750 packs valued at more than 10m coins (200,000 Fifa points). I packed TOTY Neuer on my very last pack. I packed Mid Cantona untradeable -- he is shit and I don't use him. I was able to craft 2POTM Bruno for 'free' and I also did the CR6.5. I did an Icon SBC for 'free' and got 85 Okocha whom I promptly put into Bruno. My coin balance at the end of it all was around 7m. Nothing special, but I don't really trade so it's a large amount for me.
    • "What does your team look like now?"
      • I get this one very often. Lucky for you, I've kept track of all of my weekend league finishes and the teams I used. Here you go. All teams start on 100 chemistry. Yes, I am American and so yes I use the North American date format. Sue me

    Updates to The Setup

I am most definitely not a Tin Foil Hat kind of guy. You can see by my WL finishes that I am able to maintain my form with various teams, across various Updates/Patches. That being said, this most recent patch has changed....something.... but I cant really put my finger on it.

Anyway, below is what I now run for instructions and tactics for my main 352 build.

    Standard Play:

    • Defensive Style -- Balanced
      • Width -- 4 out of 10
      • Depth -- 4 out of 10
    • Offensive Style -- Long Ball
      • Width -- 6 out of 10
      • Players In Box -- 5/6/7 out of 10 (This will vary based on the natural off the ball movement of your players. Test it out for yourself. I use 7.)
      • Corners -- 1 out of 5
      • Free Kicks -- 1 out of 5

    Goalkeeper: Nothing has changed here.

    • Saving on Crosses -- Comes for Crosses
    • Saving Outside Box -- Sweeper Keeper

    Centerbacks: Don't touch anything.

    • Attacking Support -- Stay Back While Attacking
    • Interceptions -- Normal Interceptions

Center Defensive Midfielders: Depending on your ability to defend well manually with your CBs, you can be more or less aggressive here. Be honest with yourself and your abilities.

    • LCDM (or RCDM, just pick one)
      • Defensive Behavior -- Cut Passing Lanes
      • Attacking Support -- Balanced
      • Interceptions -- Normal Interceptions
      • Defensive Position -- Cover Center
    • RCDM (or whichever one you didn't do first)
      • Defensive Behavior -- Cut Passing Lanes
      • Attacking Support -- Stay Back While Attacking
      • Interceptions -- Normal Interceptions
      • Defensive Position -- Cover Center

Wide Midfielders: These players are the workhorses of your squad. Solid passing stats are more important now than in prior weeks.

    • Standard Play
      • Defensive Support -- Come Back On Defense
      • Chance Creation -- Stay Wide
      • Support Runs -- Get In Behind
      • Support on Crosses -- Balanced
      • Interceptions -- Normal Interceptions

Central Attacking Midfielder: Nothing has changed here.

    • Defensive Support -- Stay Forward
    • Support On Crosses -- Balanced
    • Positioning Freedom -- Free Roam or Stick To Position (This depends on the natural off-the-ball movement of your CAM. Test it out for yourself. I tend to like Stick To Position better this year.)
    • Interceptions -- Conservative Interceptions (Lower stamina players will not tire as quickly with Conservative instructions. If stamina isn't an issue, you can use Normal).

Strikers: For some reason I can't quite surmise, the drift wide instructions are making players drift too wide and they don't make the ensuing angled run in behind anymore. I no longer recommend using Drift Wide on your strikers.

    • Standard Play
      • Left Striker
        • Support Runs -- Balanced
        • Attacking Runs -- Get In Behind or Balanced (Last year, I had a firm recommendation for Balanced on the Left Striker. This year, I no longer have a hard recommendation. Similar to the CAM, this instruction will depend on the natural movement of your chosen player. Test it out for yourself.)
        • Interceptions -- Conservative Interceptions or Normal Interceptions
        • Defensive Support -- Stay Forward
      • Right Striker
        • Support Runs -- Balanced
        • Attacking Runs -- Get In Behind
        • Interceptions -- Conservative Interceptions or Normal Interceptions
        • Defensive Support -- Stay Forward

    Defending Against the 532

There are two types of opponents who use the 532. The first (and the easier to beat) is the one that attacks with their fullbacks. The second is the one that has all 3 CMs and both full backs on Stay Back and/or Come Back. I will outline what I do to outmaneuver both of these types of players.

A few things about the formations before we get into breaking down the 532 using the 352.

    • Don't get flustered by the whole "one CM is a box to box and the other two are stay back" thing. Because the instructions they're using for that CM is essentially just creating a CAM that comes back on defense. Nothing special here. Just a remnant of the 4231 meta instructions.
    • The structural difference between the 3-back formations and the 5-back formations is the difference in natural movement and available instructions for the LM/RM vs a LWB/RWB.
    • Without instructions:
      • The 352's LM/RMs have a natural tendency to want to sit in the midfield in-line with the CDMs so that it forms a sort of 3-4 defensive front. When in possession of the ball, they have a natural tendency to sit in line with the CAM so that it forms a 2-3-2 offensive front.
      • The 532's LWB/RWB have a natural tendency to want to sit on the back line with the CBs so that it forms a true 5-back defensive line. When in possession of the ball, they have a natural tendency to sit in-line with the CMs so that it forms a 5-2 offensive front.
    • Available Instructions
      • In the 352, you are able to instruct your LM and RM to Get In Behind the opponent's back line while simultaneously instructing your LM and RM to Come Back on Defense.
        • The tendencies of your LM and RM have now changed. On defense, they will want to sit in-line with your CBs so that it forms a 5-back defensive line. On Offense, they will want to sit in-line with your strikers so that if forms a 2-1-4 offensive front.
      • In the 532, you are able to instruct your LWB and RWB to either Join The Attack or to Stay Back While Attacking. BUT NOT BOTH. The 532 is limited in this way.
        • If you instruct your LWB and RWB to Join The Attack, they will have new tendencies. On Defense, they will want to sit in-line with your CBs to form a 5-back line. However, the effort they make to track back is now not dependent on instructions, but on the Defensive Work Rate of the specific card. Anything other than a High defensive work rate, and they will be lazy in tracking back and often will sit in their own line (still out wide) between the CMs and CBs. On Offense, they will want to sit in-line with your strikers so that it forms a 2-1-4 offensive front.
        • If you instruct your LWB and RWB to Stay Back While Attacking, they have yet again new tendencies. On Defense, they will want to sit in-line with your CBs and form a true 5-back line. On Offense, they will not attack. Depending on the offensive width, they will either stay in-line with the CBs, or sit just upfield from the CBs but behind the CMs.

Now, on to the scenarios, from the perspective of you as the 352 user.

Scenario 1: Your opponent is using the 532, is attacking with both his LWB and his RWB (either via a Balanced or a Join The Attack instruction), and is attacking with one of his CMs.

    • When you are defending, you have a back line of 5 and 2 CDMs clogging the midfield for a total of 7 (if you want, you can let your CAM defend a bit as well and its now 8, though I don't advise that). Your opponent has an attacking front of 2 strikers, 2 overlapping wingbacks, and 1 attacking CM for a total for 5 attackers. If they decide to attack with all 3 CMs, then they would have 7.
      • If they attack with only 1 CM, your LM and RM mark their LWB and RWB. Your 3 CBs mark their 2 Strikers. Your 2 CDMs take away their attacking CM.
      • If they attack with 2 CMs, your LM and RM mark their LWB and RWB. Your 3 CBs mark their 2 strikers. Your 2 CDMs mark their 2 CMs.
      • If they attack with all 3 CMs (they won't because they would get countered hard by their opponents. but for the sake of argument, let's say they did), your LM and RM mark their LWB and RWB. Your 3 CBs mark their 2 Strikers and Attacking CM. Your CDMs mark their "Box to Box" CMs.
    • When you win the ball back, their 2 holding CMs will track back creating a 2-3 defensive front. Because you are using Long Ball, your LM and RM are going to sprint down the line to Get In Behind as soon as possible. They will almost always be upfield sooner than the LWB and RWB can track back.
      • You now have 2 Strikers, a Cam, a Box to Box CM, and 2 Wide Mids (6 players) up field facing off against 5 defenders. You are playing on the counter.
    • You didn't score while outnumbering your opponent. They've got 5 back with 3 in the midfield. That's 8 players defending against your 6 or 7. You're outnumbered behind the ball.
      • Patience. Remember that one of their CMs is actually Neymar or Mbappe or Mane or some other forward who they've stuck at CM. Yes they've got a warm body clogging up the midfield. But that warm body has 35 defending and -- unless you pass directly to your opponent -- is useless on defense.
        • Now you need to focus. Don't force passes. Dribble around. Wait for your opponent to pull his team out of shape and exploit it.

Scenario 2: Your opponent is using the 532, is not attacking with his LWB and his RWB, and is attacking with one of his CMs.

    • When your opponent is attacking, they will be attacking entirely through the midfield. No wing play. So it doesn't make sense to have your LM and RM sit out wide in-line with your CBs, does it?
      • Remember what I mentioned earlier about the natural tendencies of your LM and RM? I have a setup ready to go for this kind of opponent. My LM maintains his normal 352 instructions -- he Comes Back On Defense and He Gets In Behind. My RM has new instructions. He Gets In Behind, but he is Balanced in his Defensive Support. This creates a defensive back 4 with a line of 3 in front of them, in the middle of the field. Your opponent has 2 Strikers and 3 CMs. Even if he attacked with all of 5 of them, he has to go through your 7 narrowly positioned defenders.
    • When you win the ball back, you will be facing the same scenario as outlined earlier because your opponent is telling 7 of their players to Stay Back While Attacking. Be Patient.

    Closing Thoughts

I'm happy that so many of you have come to enjoy the 352 as I do. I hope this post answered a lot of the burning questions you may have about the 352's place within the ever-changing meta of FIFA. I'm happy to answer any questions y'all may have.

    Thanks again. Cheers!

    Reinier objective

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 07:04 PM PST

Just want to put this out here for people sweating it on the managerial mastermind mode. Not a single objective requires a win its simply goals and assists. Plus one play 25 games objective.

So when you are sweating it in that mode just remember this doesn't require wins so it's not needed.

I've faced 5-3-2 meta, I've faced people passing it around the back, to secure a win. Honestly guys it's not champs. Why not be a helpful community and if opponent is losing and hasn't got 1 goal with Reinier, why not just let them get it. Like I said win means literally nothing.

Honestly don't get what has happened in friendlies since icon swaps golden goal. That was great seeing community come together to be helpful to one another. Why not get back to this.

EDIT: I forgot about westfalenstadion needing 6 wins. Well you need to score in 16 games with that 85 card so very good chance you would get 6 wins in those 16 anyway. And even if you are struggling to get wins if you are up by 2+ goals or you can tell you are better than the player just let them get a goal. You'll still win.

FUTURE STARS 2 - Animated Card Overlay

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 09:40 PM PST

What to expect from today's content drop

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 07:54 AM PST

Just thought I'd do a run down of what I'm expecting from today's content drop as it is looking like we could have a lot in store.

    FUTURE STARS [Confirmed]

There will definitely be a new future star team along with the 3 returning players with a position change. As part of this drop, there will also be new academy objectives, allowing people to obtain a special future stars card and then obtain higher versions or position changes of that card by completing further objectives - Source

    SEASONS [Confirmed]

There will be a new season to complete with the existing season expiring today

    PRIME ICON MOMENTS [Possible]

It's possible we'll see the release of Prime Icon Moments, with the Mid-level icons expected to be removed from packs around mid-February Source, however I personally expect they will delay this to next week to allow the Future Stars promo to expire. If released, I would expect a new set of Icon SBCs with a number of them expected to expire today.

    ICON SWAPS 2 [Unlikely]

I believe that they will postpone Icon Swaps 2 to future weeks given that there are no new codes in the xml to support the release, however I admit it would be strange for Icon Swaps 1 to expire before the release of the second set.

    LUNAR NEW YEAR [Who knows]

Every year Fifa celebrates the Lunar New Year with a free pack based on how active you have been on Fifa (days logged on, webapp counts for this), along with discounted packs at half price (or buy one get one free), however I would be surprised if EA were to release this today whilst they have a promo ongoing.

Just my thoughts on what I think we might see later, feel free to disagree/point out anything I might have missed.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 11:15 AM PST

Whether from the teams, objectives or SBC's, thus far only Isak & David have had 5*'s anywhere & it was their WF. But they already had those with their base cards, it wasn't a boost.

Just makes the cards kind of boring & less unique imo. Imagine it we got a Chekri with 5* 5* & would link with the SL De Sciglio or FS Bruno. Ah well

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 01:40 PM PST

4.2 million for an Antsu Fati, that's just mental. Sako extinct at 2million! Maybe I'm doing FUT wrong? I have no interest at all in these players, they have done nothing in reality and I'm guessing Sako probably just has a generic head? Icons should always be the best cards available until TOTS.

    FS Curtis Jones (CM) Review

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 08:53 PM PST

Hey all, just wanted to post this. I don't have a futbin account and i'm genuinely too lazy to create one, so just wanted to make this cause i'm thoroughly impressed.

I understand he has a LM card, but I chose the CM version because he fit my team, and here are my thoughts.

I play him as a RCM in a 4-1-2-1-2 (2), and currently has 8 games played for me with 2 goals and 4 assists. They're not the best of statistics, but he has genuinely impressed me.

Pace: This is genuinely the only problem I had with him in the beginning. He's not slow, but just felt like at this stage of the game he was getting caught up by players I don't think should have caught up with him, I have a shadow on him as of now and I feel content with that decision

Shooting: His shooting is decent. It's not the best, but it gets the job done. I will admit, he has missed some ducks in front of him, and I'm genuinely still mind blown that he missed a certain shot now that I'm thinking about it. But i don't use him as a pure shooter, so I think i'm fine with it for now, could change his chem style and see, but his shooting is adequate

Passing: One word, superb. I have no issues with it. There's no need to use a chem style that boosts his passing in my opinion. He's set up a few lovely chances, and sets up even more that I choke and should have scored on, but i'm drunk at the moment and that could be why I miss lol

Dribbling: Again, good as well. Don't think a chem style is needed, but it depends on your play style.

Defending: Because I use him as a RCM, i felt the shadow was needed for pace and defending. He's superb at defending with a shadow. I don't feel nervous when i'm controlling him, and he wins several chances. Without a shadow tbh I didn't notice much of a difference in terms of defense.

Physical: I don't feel like he really gets bullied off the ball. The only glaring moment that I realized was he was receiving a through ball on goal with Mendy on his side, which, surprise surprise, Mendy ate his lunch and bullied him off the ball, but other than that I don't have issues with it.

Overall, I realize for this SBC, he is expensive, but he's not overpriced. For the links he gives, we should understand why EA made those decisions. He also has a LM card, so hopefully this gives you a little insight on how he is.

All in all, use your fodder as you please.
