OTW is the worst promo in the game - how they should change it for FIFA 22

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 06:09 AM PST

OTW cards are seriously pointless and should be entirely revamped.

I would change them into milestone style cards related to real life performances.

First win with new club = upgrade

Attackers: First goal for the club = upgrade Midfielders: First goal or assist = upgrade Defenders/GK: First clean sheet = upgrade

    Attackers: 10 goals = upgrade Midfielders: 10 goals or 10 assists = upgrade Defenders/GK: 10 clean sheets = upgrade

3 wins in a row with new club = upgrade

First IF with new club = upgrade

With a possibility of 5 upgrades I think it would give these cards a good purpose and worth for a good length of the game.

Pro Clubs should be the competitive game mode in Fifa and it's a joke that EA neglect it

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 11:31 AM PST

Watching some of NepentheZ streams and videos, and the games they're having against other times makes me wonder why EA don't do more with clubs. It looks a whole lot more fun then FUT, more competition against other players and genuinely looks like something that anybody can pick up and go, rather then just force a meta and same players in, or spam Bridges and skill moves.

Why do EA not make clubs the competitive game mode. Just imagine a weekly leader board of teams from anywhere and monthly competitive 11 v 11 games. It would be insane. EA are really missing something here I believe as clubs from what I've been watching looks so much more fun.

Year-Long Showdown cards that upgrade each league win and downgrade each league loss, took me a while so I'd like ur feedback

What a marvelous card. A fast CM, good defensively, great at attack, 85' minutes and still running like its 5.

Thanks, EA. I'm looking forward to other players of the same caliber.

Love and hate of the Web app

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 06:54 PM PST

As an avid BPM lover I spend hours on the web app opening packs, crafting SBCs and bidding on players, more so than on the actual game since it's so much quicker. But the everlasting problems and bugs that it has, makes it increasingly infuriating to use. Player picks where a duplicate player is not labelled as such, just not being able to bid on a player despite time still on the counter, not being able to switch untradable duplicates, many players not showing when building a SBC

Please just fix these things, it is not something that needs continues adjustments like the gameplay but would increase the experience tenfold and then not have to be touched again.

How would you guys feel if EA implemented a Badge System like in NBA2K?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 02:55 PM PST

This is a bit of a read, but it could benefit the game as a whole, and EA knowing how greedy they are.

For those who don't know, the Badge System in NBA2K is like their own version of Traits and Specialties that FIFA has, however they are more unique and have different levels to them (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Hall of Fame). Each level have their own amount of effectiveness, Hall of Fame being the best.

The traits system in FIFA is very bland and I feel like having a Badge System would possibly make high rated players that people don't really use much more desirable (Kane, Kroos, Modric, Muller, Lewandowski.) This could also make teams be very different.

There are badges in NBA2K that increase effectiveness to a specific move or action in the game. Here are some examples:

CORNER SPECIALIST: Increases the chance of making a shot near the corner.

INTIMIDATOR: Intimidates offensive players causing them to miss shots more often

INTERCEPTOR: Increases chance of getting a steal in passing lanes.

There are tons of other badges, all very unique to different players/positions, on offence and defence.

In my eyes, Badges in FIFA could be a great thing. Here are some of my own ideas of what kind of "Badges" EA could bring in. I will also list some players who could have this Badge.

TOP BINS: Increases the chance of scoring shots aimed at the top corners. (Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Kane.)

BRICK WALL: Improves the chances of blocking a shot. (Van Dijk, Ramos, Hummels)

STICKY DRIBBLER: Reduces the chances of losing the ball while being pressured by multiple defenders. (Messi, Neymar, Hazard)

LASER GUIDED: Reduces the chances of a pass being intercepted. (Modric, Thiago, David Silva, Busquets)

HAIL MARY: Improves the accuracy of long balls. (Kroos, Ziyech, Messi)

BODY BUILDER: Improves a player's ability to shrug off opponents. (Lukaku, Kane, Ronaldo)

THIRD EYE: Improves a player's ability to read and intercept a pass. (Kante, Casemiro, Fabinho, Ramos, Van Dijk)

SKILLS PAY THE BILLS: Allows a player to chain multiple skill moves without error. (Neymar, Mbappe, Douglas Costa, Hazard, Messi)

ROCKET POWERED: Improves a player's shot speed/power. (Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Kane, Aguero)

While you may think "Why would we need this? We already have traits like Outside Foot Shoot and Finesse Shot, also ingame stats."

Those could be made into Badges too. And while having different levels of them (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Hall of Fame), it would make players more unique from each other.

I would finally be comfortable with using guys like Modric, Kane, and David Silva. I would much rather have a Suarez with Gold Outside Foot Shot than a Ben Yedder with Silver Outside Foot Shot. It would also make team building much more different and we would see less of the same boring meta players each game. Ramos would be much more desirable than Varane because Ramos would have more and better Badges than Varane would, and that will make Ramos better in-game.

How could EA somehow benefit from this? By making them consumables of course, just like Chemistry Styles, although Badges don't increase ingame stats.

Hopefully you've read this far, let me know what you think about having this system in FIFA.

Ranking the top 5 ‘cheap’ icons

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 03:09 PM PST

This is just my opinion based off of who I've tried and hopefully it helps someone out as these players play well above their stats.

I'm classifying all icons around the 400k and under region as 'cheap'. I'm also not going to include multiple versions of the same icon on this list.

    1. Mid Overmars (88). This card is amazing if you don't skill and even if you do, he's still worth a look in. 95 pace and 5 star weak foot make him an immense striker, similar to Butragueno.

    2. Base Xavi (88). This guy is an unbelievably good CM or attacking CDM. His defensive work is not as bad as the stats suggest, with a shadow he's extremely quick and you'll be hard pressed to find a better passer.

    3. Mid Rijkaard (88). I don't even know why this guy is so cheap. He's got good stats in all the right areas and just has a seriously big presence on the pitch. Feels quick enough with a shadow and dominates the centre of a 352.

    4. Mid Bergkamp (90). Incredibly underrated card that is best played as a striker. He gets in great positions and finishes everything. His 4 star wf feels close to 5.

    5. Mid Nedved (88). In terms of value for money, Nedved is the outright best. 4 star sm and 5 star wf make him a top tier player in any attacking position, combine this with extremely good stats across the board and he is a force to be reckoned with. His best positions are CAM and striker.

    Lopsided 4-3-1-2 formation w/ tactics

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 10:01 AM PST

Thought i'd upload my lopsided 4-3-1-2, which got me to gold 3 with 3 games to spare, although it could easily have been gold 2 or higher, if not for disconnection issues and using Charlie Wyke rather than Thierry Henry!

    Tactics and Instructions

    Tactics

    Player Instructions

I like to break the team down into three areas, defending, on the counter and attacking:

    Defending

    Organised and compact

When in a defensive position, the defence and midfield create a solid line which is tough to break through. The two physical strikers allow a direct route to break out, holding the ball up and allowing the midfield to push and and break past them. With Hierro being a centre back playing as a full back, he provides better defensive cover than a usual left back. However, it was rare to have the team this deep, as our vulnerabilities lie on the counter-attack.

    Counter

Only time it matches default formation is on the counter

On the counter-attack, the danger comes through the centre of the pitch, with our strikers and midfielders. They interchange with constant running and movement, causing havoc in opposition defences. This seemed particularly effective against a 5-3-2 and 4-2-2-2.

The aggressive pressing from the midfielders and the aggressive interceptions from Fabinho, allowed the counter-attack to be a regular threat, often suffocating an opposition into their own half, keeping up to 82% possession. In these cases when dominating possession, the lopsided nature of our formation comes into effect.

An example of a counter, using this formation

    Attacking

    Becomes a 3-4-1-2 in possession.

Against a compact defence, the left CM pushes wide left. The right back bombs forward to give us an overload on the right flank, providing triangles between the RCM, RS and RB. This width allows crosses to come in, due to most teams defending in a compact manner, making it tough to break through the middle. Due to the attacking nature of the right back, the formation can be vulnerable to the counter. To try and negate this, the left back stays back, and the RCB helps cover the right side. For this reason, i'd recommend using your best centre half in that position, as he has the most work to do.

Peres gives the width for the first attack, whilst Cucurella pushing up left wins the ball back, leading to a goal for the right back.

    Summary

I love this formation, its worked wonders for me on golden goal. On FUT champs, the defence has been deceptively strong, conceding no more than 1 goal in half of my matches, whilst scoring 3 or more in the same amount of games. It provides a different threat to most formations i've used, with one opponent messaging me to say about its crossing threat.

edit: improved the quality of the two videos.

3421 14-5 WL REVIEW; SCOTLAND THE BRAVE

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 06:25 AM PST

    Happy Monday all!

I've been seeing a lot of hype for 3back/5back formations lately, namely the 352, and I wanted to highlight the potential in using the 3421 formation - a formation I've used for over 800 games at this point.

I would preface this in saying that i feel this formation is very very specialist - it's not one that you can just pick up and use. I took a long grind for me to understand what im trying to do with this formation (using a meta team), let alone use this formation using sub-par players as well in certain areas (obviously helps using a 1.7mill striker).

Note: tried using some of the silver scottish cb's and and david marshall as my keeper and they were beyond woeful.... whilst i like to give myself a disadvantage, conceding 25 yard finesses which I could do little about due to my keeper was a bit beyond my limits....

    The team is shown below;

    WL TEAM IN-GAME FORMATION

    PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS;

St - Stay Central, Get in Behind

Lf - Stay Central, Get in Behind

RF - Stay Central, False 9

Lm/RM - Come back , Get in behind, Get into box

    Cm's - Stay back

    Cb's - Default

    Tactics shown below;

    TACTICS

    HOW THE TEAM PLAYS;

    IN THE OFFENSE

Overloading the wings are the main form of offense and will be your bread and butter. Your lm and rm is probably your biggest playmakers in this formation, therefore it is important to get players who can play the ball, cross but also win a tackle. Any high tier full back should fit the bill, but I especially like those with high dribbling and agility.

    In transition/ counter attacking, this is normally how you'll find your team after a few seconds of play;

    https://preview.redd.it/j87twmdz41j61.png?width=495&format=png&auto=webp&s=b27cde6c113ec5174904bcc9f7c8c73c6c4cd01c

What is important to note is the RF playing false 9 and picking up the ball. He is quite vital to the team in creating layers within the team - which is important is providing a multi-dimensional attack. It is either him or one of the cms in which i would use to carry the ball forward.

    Also from the image above, you'll begin to see the overloads that begin to happen with the RM/RF and LM/LF. This is the key thing from the formation; the opposition cbs will be forced to decide on who to mark which will inevitably leave spaces. This is shown in two key scenarios below;

    SCENARIO A

    SCENARIO B

In scenario A, the opponents left full back gets dragged to combat the four attackers created by the LM,LF,CF and RF which then leaves a gap for the RM to burst into the box. This can also happen on the other side as well.

In scenario B, the opponent full back tries to match the on-rushing RM and gets dragged whilst the RF is in possesion of the ball. This will result in the opposing cb have to meet the RF on the ball, which will momentarily leave a gap which the CF can exploit with a through ball.

    Failing that however, you'll end up with a situation which most with be familiar with;

    Opposition in full defense.

What imporant here is to use your'e two Cm's to contiunously pass and receive the ball, which will drag opposition defenses around. Obviously here is where having King Kenny helps in being really agile and an excellent finisher; he can receive in the box, quick shimmy and shoot.

    IN THE DEFENSE.

You have to be somewhat clinically insane to play this formation, and my motto to playing this formation is to get the ball back asap. Rushing and slide tackling is necessary to stop your opponent playing out. There generally are three phases to defending in this formation and it's important to use specialists for each task.

PHASE 1: RUSH WITH YOUR CM (CALLUM MCGREGOR)

So the scenario is that you've lost the ball in the opponents box and he's on the break. Generally your attacking players are too deep in the opposition box to do anything, which means it's down to the Scottish Kante to clean up. I usually have one more attacking cm in the box and a defensive cdm; but most importantly it has to be someone with pace and can press quickly. Callum Mcgregor fits this role for me; he's agile, quick and can get in your face.

With the meta nowadays, there generally is a gap in between the opponents defensive structure and their strikers, which mean that your opponent has to play a non -impeded ball if he wants to break quickly. This is allows for the potential of mcgregor to intercept the clearance or pass before it reaches the striker and reengage the attack.

PHASE 2 - TAKE OUT THE FIRST STRIKER WITH THE CENTRAL CB

Failing phase 1, the next task is up to your central cb and it's his job to really take one for the team. For my playstyle, I use McTominay; who has ridiculous reach, high strength and decent mobility and stamina. This is my favourite phase as it really sets the tone for the game - to lure opponents into think they can mount an attack before you smack down their striker with mcsauce. Given that generally the opponents wide players will be forced into marking your wide mids, the two strikers will be the only players forward which means they have to be the first outball to relieve my pressure; which also means that any passes towards them will generally be counted as a long pass. What this means is that in the time taken for the pass to come into the strikers, my central cb will be allowed the time to push into the receiving strikers back, meaning he won't have any time on the ball. With Mct's strength and slide tackle, very rarely can an opponent hold up against him and play a safe ball. If the ball does get played into the wings, the LCB/RCB will also act accordingly.

PHASE 3 - DEFENDING IN THE BOX

If you're lucky enough to fail the first two phases but not have your opponent through on goal, then you'll be resorted to the last phase which is simply to defend as a 5 back with two screening cm's.

    QUIRKS TO NOTE

    - Sounds counter intuitive but its quite important to use pressure to win the ball high up in the field rather than dropping back; this saves the stamina on your lm/rm from having to run back and forth constantly.

    - RF or LF has to be a Cam type player with good passing but also shooting.

    - One of your Cm's needs to be attacking - the extra man going forward really helps with pullng cb's out of position and giving you goal scoring opps.

    - I'd probably go against playing a small cb and your middle cb as he needs the strength to outmuscle strikers with their back against them.

    - You could opt for a tall striker as CF but be wary of using crosses as this may result in giving away possession unnecessarily.

    - Your lm, rm shouldn't really be cutting in - positional play is important and keeping them wide is what allows for gaps. Cutting in only slows the play down and forces them to occupy the same space as the rf/lf who can cut in. Keep them wide and use them to cross or get in the box to cut back or shoot.

    CONCLUSION

My idea for this tactic was to really try and play something completely different that is rarely seen but also something that is effective tactically with minimal reliance on meta players or even good players.

I'm not a student of real life football, but I always admire coaches that require specific personel to do a specific job in a specific formation that doesn't overly rely on individual brilliance. Cliched, but Bielsa's Leeds is a good example. Old Mourinho is also an inspiration having read books on his time at Porto and the way he utilised certain players to do a specific job during a game.

This team has really invigorated my love for fifa and using these hell mary tactics really make each game exciting. Obviously there are limitations but seeing the opponents scramble as they see your wide mid players overload the sides is too enjoyable to pass. I emplore people to give this a try - or at least something different a try compared to conventional formations.

In a time when 'Who's the best player for x' or ' what is the best formation' kind of questions are rife, I hope that this post offers something a little different and shows you can play with whatever players you want, have fun but also reach an ok standard without being overly reliant on Neymar.

Thanks again for reading (for those who has made it this far down) and feel free to ask questions.

This game desperately needs cross play

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 02:32 PM PST

The wait times for games is ridiculous. I live in NA east, play on ps4 and like it takes 3-5 mins for division rivals in division 2 1800skill rating. In specific game modes i.e silver stars it's even impossible to find games because of how little people actually play in it.

At least open the servers up to old and new gen. I just hope they add cross play in sometime in this cycle it's just ridiculous waiting for games

    Courtois celebrating too early

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:40 AM PST

Here’s why Icon Content this year has been half assed.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 05:04 AM PST

Here's just a number of reasons why, starting with icon swaps:

-> Icon swaps started late. This time last year we were 2 weeks away from icon swaps 3. Icon swaps 1 started in October last year. This year, we had to wait till freaking December.

-> The icon options themselves from the swaps were completely and are completely underwhelming compared to last year. Last year in icon swaps 1, (which started in October too), we could get baby Butra, baby Rio, Prime Zanetti, Mid Drogba, Mid Gerrard, to name a few. This year we got utter shite and nobody can tell me otherwise. I think the most blatant one was being able to get Prime Hagi from icon swaps 1 by the time November rolled around. We had to wait till January to get mid Hagi this year lol.

    Onto some sbc's now:

-> There's been too few of them. In Fifa 19, there were icon sbc's nearly weekly. And not some shit, baby icons and useless shitters, but Prime icons. I remember the number 1 debate in November was doing Prime Hagi vs Prime Rui Costa (Go team Rui).

-> The cost. Even the shit sbc's are terrible value. The last time we had icon sbc's, doing the sbc would usually be much cheaper than buying the icon straight off the market. Which makes complete sense. Nowadays, the sbc is usually more expensive, which makes no sense as you're locking coins into an untradable player.

    Here are some positives though:

-> The new packs are good. They're nice for building up fodder. Also, the icon packs are fun. I like that there's more variety with them this year.

-> The objectives are in friendlies. That ones obvious ahaha.

TLDR: instead of combing the best of Fifa 19 and 20 with icon swaps and sbcs, we've gotten some half arsed hybrid.
