"Crucial block from Varane" has to be the most infuriating quote I've heard on a videogame

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 12:38 PM PST

I've played more than usual this week, and holy, I hadn't realize so far how many times you can hear that line in a match.

And, whats worse, most of the times that block is followed my a solo run from Mbappe or Neymar...

I’m on FUTBIN more than I’m on FIFA

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 06:01 PM PST

Spend a lot of my time just on futbin playing around with potential squads, looking at cards, playing around with Chem styles.

Actually think I spend more time on FUTBIN app than actually in fifa playing the game!

    Anyone else like this?

Ea's Priorites: soft lock the game if too many matches are played in an hour but will allow the rampant bots on the market AND the PC drafts being broken for 4 years..

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 07:03 AM PST

I have to wait an hour to play a friendly game mode. I have to fill in a captcha after searching for a card like 5 times.

Yet bots are rampant, sniping everything of value, coin sellers are everywhere and you can't get a draft match on PC without some Russian account causing a disconnect.

    Thanks :)

The weird urge to continue playing even though you are not having fun

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 02:26 PM PST

Why is it after suffering a really annoying L i still have this urge to continue playing even though i'm mildly salted and not having fun?

I know the fifa subreddit ain't some psyciatrical outpost for salted weekend League players but is there anyone who experiences the same thing and does anyone know why this urge is there?

    TOTW is irrelevant.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 09:07 AM PST

Isak potentially getting an in form just shows how irrelevant the totw has become. EA now focus completely on 'promotions' and making money, have no care for the fun gaming experience FUT started as years ago.

Has EA forgotten about Icon SBCs ? It has been 5 weeks since the last release.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 09:27 AM PST

Cannavaro, Okocha and Roberto Carlos came out on January 15th, they expired 2 weeks ago and there hasn't been any new set of icons since.

We're in Late February and every icon set they release is only 3 players.
I'm sitting on a good amount of untradeable fodders waiting to be used, the more I don't use them the more the chance of pulling a duplicate increases.

If they don't want to release Icon SBC at least release endgame SBC's like Hazard/Boateng/Ramos last year without expiry so we can dump our fodders into.

EDIT : Regretting not doing Cannavaro.

    Let's talk about Keane's card!

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 03:44 AM PST

When looking at Roy Keane's card individually it actually doesn't look like a bad representation at all but when you start to compare him to other Icons and see how their stats are widely inflated compared to his, you start to realise how bad it is. I will only be comparing prime cards for now as Keane does not have a moments yet.

Let's start with pace, Keane wasn't the fast player but to say players like Pirlo, Petit and Veron are all faster is something I would not agree with. He should easily have a few extra points in pace but nothing too major.

Shooting is where I feel a lot of other Icons get an inflated stat even if they were not goalscorers where Keane justs gets a basic stat. To compare him to Petit for example, Petit has better shooting in every single category bar penalties however Roy Keane scored more goals for Nottingham Forest (31) in 3 seasons than Petit did in his whole career (26). Keane scored a total of 96 goals in 743 games in his career which is more than:

    Vieira - 64 in 758 games

    Pirlo - 86 in 872 games

    Essien - 67 in 603 games

    Veron - 87 in 730 games

    Petit - 26 in 585 games

All the above players have better shooting than Keane which in some categories you could argue they deserve more such as long shots or penalties however how can he have the second worst finishing after Essien? I don't see how it is possible to have better long shots and finishing than Keane when he scored more goals than them all.

Onto Passing now and no real issue here as Keane has quality passing stats.

Dribbling again no major issue but I do think he could have more agility/balance as many other Icons who are 6 foot+ manage to get a higher ratings here when traditionally EA give worse ratings here the taller you are. And Keane was a better dribblier than given credit for.

For defending and physical no point complaining too much here as he has quality stats.

Overall I am mostly taking a gripe with his shooting as other Icons get a hugely inflated stats compared to Keane but even in other categories I think their stats are still more inflated than his. I have a feeling if Roy Keane came from a more well renowned nation such as France or Germany we would be looking at a widely different card. Now his prime moments could help rectify this as he is getting it for a brace vs Sheffield United so should get a nice shooting boost hopefully.because Viera manged to get 86 shooting on his moments somehow.

TL:DR: Keane's shooting needs a massive overhaul as he is disrespected massively!

Icon Moments Deco Review. Should you choose him?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 12:37 PM PST

I have now got initial impressions on Deco.

I have used him for 10 games at 2050 SR at CAM in this team.

(Feel free to ask about anyone else in the team and I'll try and answer)

He has 15 goals and 13 assists in these 10 games.

Review done with an engine chemistry style.

    Pace 8/10

90 with an engine. Feels like 90 due to body type. Will be outpaced by Varane and Gomez but who won't? Fast enough to run onto through balls and hit first time shots.

    Dribbling 10/10

His ball control is amazing. Deco is a master of left stick dribbling. You can weave in and out of defences before laying it off to someone or shooting yourself.

    Shooting 8.5/10*

Surprisingly good finishing for someone with 87 stat. He finishes the majority of chances you expect him to and only missed 1 clear cut chance in his 10 games. His left foot is okay for shooting but don't try any long shots with it. He did score multiple outside of the box finesses with his right. His surprisingly good finishing may be down to his 93 Composure.

*Would be improved with a shooting chemistry style but I did not use one as his shooting was fine for me.

    Defending N/A

I used him as a stay forward CAM.

    Passing 10/10

The standout attribute on this card. His passing is only limited by what you can imagine. He can ping cross pitch through balls with ease. His passing on his left felt perfect as well. I genuinely couldn't tell the difference when passing. I think his high stats compensated for the 3* WF.

    Physical 5.5/10

The weakness. He is not strong. No way around it. Deco is not a card you use to outmuscle people. His stamina is more than enough and he was not substituted once.

    Overall 9/10

As someone who uses CAMs mainly for quick 1-2 passes and left stick dribbling, his physical shortcomings did not affect me in the slightest. He was clinical and his passing was perfect.

    Should you pick him?

    Yes.

He is a perfect CAM for a passing playstyle.

What about a base icon pack instead?

Ask yourself if you want a guaranteed great CAM in 91 Deco or a shot at probably 10 to 15 base icons that may be better at CAM. Including the fact that the worse ones are much more likely to be packed, I wouldn't risk it at all.

Imagine being the guy who picked a base pack for one more token than moments Deco and got base Deco. That was enough to dissuade me from this option.

Plus, doing Deco and packs means you can miss out on one token. So you can skip 1 challenge that might be a pain.

Edit: Ignore the massive Szoboszlai thumbnail. That must be due to the Futbin link. It is a beautiful dynamic though tbf.

Why is gold Werner the scariest card in the game?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 02:21 PM PST

I genuinely shit myself Everytime I have to face a full gold team with Werner in weekend league. There's just something about that gold Werner running in behind your back line - somehow forcing your centre back to follow him to your net to make sure he's onside.

Why are these all-gold teams the scariest to play against?

    An alternative to Squad Battles

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 03:31 PM PST

Squad Battles are boring, mind numbing and exhausting however, they are the only single player mode apart from single player draft. It is a way for grinders to get extra rewards however I personally feel that the rewards are not worth the time put in.

The alternative: Challenges! (Inspired by Madden)

Specific scenarios that you have to beat in order to progress towards a reward.

Example: Re-create Man City's 2011-12 Title winning run. There would be roughly 10 scenarios where you would be late in a game and would have to hold on to a lead/win a game leading to the QPR game were you would have to score two goals in under 4 minutes. At the end you could get coins, a pack or an untradeable player.

Example #2: Specific static challenges such as "score with a volley without losing possession" or "win this penalty shootout"

I feel like this would be much more fun than squad battles and just wanted to share and see if others felt this as well.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 10:05 AM PST

I used to put up with fifa because, despite being utterly rubbish, it plugged that football sized gap. Now, I'm struggling to find a real reason to switch on and put up with the servers.

Why Varane will always catch up with your striker in a sprint

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 04:30 PM PST

So I've seen so many posts this year about Varane catching up with everyone and how his pace stats are fake etc etc.

One thing i've learned and I dont know if this is common knowledge or not, is that your player moves slower when they have the ball. I dont have the exact percentage but I would think its maybe 95% of normal pace or something like that. Also, i believe ball control stats have an additions effect on this, slowing the player even more if they have low ball control stats.

    Now lets take some example:

Varane has 85 sprint speed with no chem. With shadow (wich 99% of players who use him have) he suddenly has 95 sprint speed.

Mbappe for example has 96 sprint speed. Most players use Marksman on him, wich leaves him at 96. Thats 1% faster than Varane in a sprint duel, WITHOUT the ball. If Mbappe has the ball however, he is suddenly at 95% of his 96 sprint speed wich is 91. He has 99 ball control though, so that would not make a further difference.

CR7 with ENGINE: 96 sprint speed but only 92 ball control - so 91 sprint speed, plus an additional 3 percent maybe because of the 92 ball control = 89

Neymar with Hunter: 99 sprint speed, 95 ball control. Thats 92-93 sprint speed but he has shit stamina so lets say 90.

Also one last thing: I think the new skillmove the Bridge is actually a small speed boost since the player actually looses ball control for a small moment, removing the deficit from having the ball.

    Thoughts?
