/r/FIFA: The Weekly Fucking Rant Thread

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 04:00 AM PST

As we all know, there is a lot of anger to be had in FIFA. Many controllers have lost their lives in the 90th minute. Some call it handicap. Some call it scripting. Sometimes it's just the general online bullshit that send you into a rage. This is our weekly support group -- where we come to vent and rant against all the things that shouldn't matter, except they do!

    Give in to your anger...

Let the hate flow through you...

What's pissing you off the most in this game we love to hate?

If someone lets you score/scores an own goal at the beginning of a match it’s because they don’t need the win but need a goal

It's so dumb when you score 2 own goals or let somebody score multiple times and they still defend you and don't get that they just want to score to complete 1/12 of the serie A obj. People are sped

    Division 4 is insane now

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:48 AM PST

I am a comfortable Division 4 player. I win as much as I lose, and that's fine. I get outplayed (fairly), I dominate and I have a close battles with similarly matched opponents.

However, this week has been an absolute shit show. I am suddenly playing against players who are clearly at a much higher skill than me, despite what their SR says it is.

I know people say "give it a break" and that's exactly what I did yesterday, only to come back to it today, fresh as a daisy, and greeted with the same 10 million coin, skill abusing teams.

Any other average FIFA player finding this?

Has anyone else not packed any special promo cards since starting Fifa 21?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 01:50 PM PST

I'm four months in, have opened what must have been over 300 packs, grinded some league SBCs and haven't packed any special cards other than a RTTF Taison. I've packed plenty of TOTW but nothing over an 84.

No Toty, No Freeze cards, Future Stars, you name it. I haven't packed it.

Is anyone else in the same boat?

If someone is giving you a win don't be a jerk.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:25 PM PST

Tonight I was bored and decided I wanted to give away wins in one nation. I figured there would be people who aren't so good trying to finish it near the end of the season and I had like 40 games left after I finished mine. I did manage to give out about 22 wins before I was sick to my stomach over the people who play this game and just said fuck it. Out of 22 games 8n which I would just kick the ball to my gk, roll the ball at my feet in front of goal, and let people take the ball and score before quitting for them I had 17 dance celebrations, 14 watched the replay, 3 messages that in various ways told me that "I suck" or should "learn to play" and one (yes one!!!) Thank you message. Lesson learned, never try to be nice to this community. But to the one dude who said thank you, your welcome.

3421 Formation Guide: The 5ATB Beater

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 03:37 PM PST

    Introduction

After watching the last few Chelsea games under Thomas Tuchel i decided to recreate the tactics he has been applying since his arrival. They generally line up in a 343 which doesnt really translate well into FIFA cause the wingers and outside mids get clustered up too much. Thats when the 3421 came into play. If you want to have a deeper dive into Tuchels tactics, aswell as learn how to use this formation in FIFA, there is a brilliant youtube video on the channel Football Made Simple.

Moving on.. After a few days of trying to figure out the right tactics on D1 Rivals last week, i finally got it right. While playing WL this weekend i came a cross LOADS of 5ATBs, especially on high elo right after G1. After seeing many posts of people being frustrated because they couldnt seem to break those down, i decided to write this little guide to help out as i was beating most of them.

For context, i am a E3 player and stuck at that level for the last 2 FIFAs.

    Tactics

    Formation: 3421

    Defensive Style: Balanced

    Width: 7

    Depth: 8

Disclaimer: You need to be quite good at manual defending to make this one work.

7 width seems to be quite high at first but it is a necessity to press the opposition high up the pitch. If the opponent holds onto the ball for longer periods, your team gets condensed anyway and you will defend in a 5-2 shape infront of your box. At 8 depth the offside trap will be used automatically which in return puts pressure on the other player and prevents him from constantly playing around the box. The high depth approach decreases the space between your back line and midfield when you attack and i have found that to be way more effective than a lower depth.

    Offensive Style: Long Ball

    Width: 7

    Players in the box: 7

    Corners & Freekicks: 2

Offensively, this is where the magic happens. The amount of passing options this formation provides is really crazy. You basically have 5 attackers making runs left and right, while having the two CMs as passing outlets at all times in case nobody is open. It also suits most playstyles because you can counter attack or play possession based football, depending on the situation.

You may ask yourself: But why is it so good against the 5ATB? Your 3 attackers are always in a 1 on 1 scenario against his center backs, which makes it much easier to create chances especially on the counter. Against 4 ATB it becomes even easier since you basically play 5v4 leaving one man open all the time.

    Instructions

GK: Comes for crosses, Sweeper Keeper

    CBs: None

    CMs: Stay Back, Cover Center

LM&RM: Come Back, Stay on the edge of the box, Conservative Interceptions

LF&RF: Stay Central, Get in behind

    ST: Stay central, false nine

    Some thoughts:

The ST on false nine gives you a passing option from the CMs and also drags out a CB to make space for the two wingers running in behind. While the Wingers make runs into the half space they occupy the opposing outside backs or center backs in a 5 ATB which furthermore opens up space for the LM&RM making runs on the overlap. My RM in this setup is Rooney who scored like 20 goals this weekend because he is basically always open.

The CMs are on stay back allowing for a cut back option at all times. When there isnt an opening you can just recycle the attack and start over. The outside mids have conservative interceptions to help with the stamina.

    My Setup: https://www.futbin.com/21/squad/6045454

    Player Archetypes

    GK: Whatever suits you.

CBs: Should be all fast and fairly agile. Varane, Walker, Klaiber you know the deal lol

CMs: It is really important that they can do stuff on the ball while having decent defensive stats and really good passing. Frenkie, Kante, Bruno, Pirlo... would be good options

LM&RM: Need good all around stats with pace, dribbling and decent defensive stats being the critical ones. They will also get many goal scoring opportunities, so a decent shot is a bonus. e.g: Roberto Carlos, Rooney, Cuadrado, Cancelo...

LF&RF: Look for pace, shooting and dribbling. Natural wingers work as well as strikers. They will score the majority of your goals. e.g: Rashford, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar...

ST: You want a creator with great passing, dribbling and shooting here. Messi or Neymar would be great.

If you have any questions let me know! This formation is incredibly fun, give it a shot :)

    Enjoy

Fernando Torres is actually spot on to how he really played

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 06:29 AM PST

I just finished the mid Torres sbc today (maybe it was a waste of time and coins but who cares) and he is exactly how i imagined him. He isn't great at passing, he can play a good one two but don't expect Beckham level long passes from him or anything, his dribbling is good but not amazing so you can't turn defenders inside out like you can with some ultra agile players. But my god he just knows how to get in behind defenders, he genuinely has only been offiside once and that was just because of a deflection. He just times the runs perfectly and can just pull off a shot like that. Soon as he turns that last man no matter how you shoot whether you try and finesse it, maybe dink the keeper or just smash it he just finds the right angle.

I don't think this is the most meta kind of play style but its actually very accurate to how he played in real life, just burning past defenders and slotting home. Very satisfying to be able to replicate that in the game.

I found a pattern of wrongful transfer market bans that EA needs to fix

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 11:27 PM PST

TL;DR: EA doesn't seem to understand the PC market, is levying a lot of wrongful bans, I've collected many recent examples of legitimate transactions leading to a ban, I'd like to gather more examples to make a stronger case to EA that something is very wrong here.

I play on PC and was incorrectly banned from the market over a month ago. I won a RTTF Varane card on open bid for 1.4M and sold him shortly for 1.5M and received a permanent market ban within an hour. I've appealed the ban by making a case through EA Help, but during this time I've learned about other people's experiences with market bans from legitimate transactions, especially in the PC market.

If you're not familiar with the PC market, high-end card like top-tier icons are quite rare in the market. It's typical to have cards like Gullit have only a small handful of listings or be extinct on the market. As a result, for high-end cards, the market price can vary a lot, since there isn't enough supply to dictate a steady price.

Over the last month, from searching this subreddit, discord channels, and EA forums, I've easily found at least 10 cases of players selling high-end cards on the PC market at fair market value and being market banned for it:

Date Card Acquired Sold Notes Sales History (switch to Origin platform)
Jan 4 RTTF Varane Bought on bid at 1.4M Banned after selling at 1.5M This is me. This spread of 100k is still common for this card to this day link
Jan 23 Prime Cantona Bought on bid at 4.525M Banned after selling at 5M Posted on EA Answers, know him from Discord. Avid icon trader. Won card from open bid at a discount, sold card at market price, had been selling for more than 5M around this time link
Feb 7 Prime Gullit Bought Banned after selling at 13.8M Posted on reddit. Sales history shows how rarely this card is listed. There had barely been any lower listings during the week of the sale link
Jan 13 Mid Gullit Bought at 7.75M on bid Banned after selling at 8.699M Posted on EA Answers. Just 12 hours after selling, a mid Gullit sold for 9M flat. Another rare card on the market with wild price fluctuations link
Jan 13 SIF CR7 Bought at 3.65M with BIN Banned after selling at 4.1M Posted on EA Answers. The card was bought and sold at market value, but the card's market value just happened to rise sharply in the day between him buying and him selling. link
Jan 22 TOTY CR7 Packed Banned after selling at 12M Posted on reddit. The guy packs one of the best cards in the game and sells him at EA's designated max BIN price and promptly gets banned for it. This card is still bought at max BIN today link
Mid Jan Mid Pele Bought at 6.811M on open bid Banned after selling at 7.369M Posted on reddit. Sales history shows high fluctuation of market price during this month. The buy/sell price fall within the range of fluctuations link
Jan 20 Mid Cruyff Bought at 4.6M Banned after selling at 4.7M Posted on reddit. Sales history shows his price fluctuating between 4.3M and 4.85M around this time. link
Mid Jan Prime Cantona Unknown Banned after selling Prime Cantona Posted on reddit
Jan 22 Mid Cruyff Packed Banned after selling Posted on reddit
Nov 24 Mid Gullit Packed Banned after selling at 11.45M Posted on reddit and twitter. Earlier on in the cycle so I believe this was probably his market value at this point link

These examples all have the same pattern

    • On the PC transfer market
    • High-end desirable cards
    • Often acquired by packing or winning on open bid
    • Sold via BIN at fair market price on the PC market
    • Ban levied within hours of selling the card

It's easy to be skeptical and think that people are lying about their situation and covering something up, but after my own experience, I have good reason to believe that there are just a lot of false positives generated by the banning algorithm. I suspect the algorithm is better tuned to the PS and XBox markets where there are more transactions and less variance in sales prices, but it is overly aggressive in the PC market and has targeted many PC players who are using the market legitimately.

To be fair to EA, I understand the need to have an algorithm to try to automatically detect suspicious market activity. I also understand that no algorithm is going to be perfect and there will be false positives that need to be reviewed by a human upon appeal. I actually would be fine with this whole process if these cases were reviewed and overturned in a timely matter.

However, another pattern here is that all these cases are still in the appeal process after weeks or months with most of them having at least 1 or 2 appeal rejections already. It seems exceedingly rare to find a case that is successfully overturned. The TOS team is understaffed and can't get to these cases quickly and it doesn't seem like they're viewing these cases in the context of a volatile PC market. When viewed in isolation, the spread between the buy/sell prices of these cards may look suspicious, but anyone who glances at the PC market trends knows that this is just the nature of the PC market. Another theory I've seen is that coin buyers are on the buying side of these cards, which marks the transaction as suspicious, but there's no reason why the legitimate seller should be punished here.

So where do we go from here? I'm not sure if any of these concerns will make it to the right people, but my hope is that the algorithm that detects coin distribution is tweaked to understand the PC market to stop flagging normal transactions like the ones above and/or more resources are put into the TOS team to review these cases in a timely manner, along with better understanding of the differences in the PC market. In the meantime, I'm collecting more examples of these wrongful market bans and posting in this EA Answers post to make as strong of a case that I can to show that something is not right with market bans. If you have your own examples, please share here on Reddit or there on EA Answers.

By the way, I've focused on cases involving the PC market because that's what I'm familiar with, but I don't doubt that this happens to some degree on the console markets too. Just didn't want to sound like I was leaving out wrongful bans on PS and XBox too.

The only reason i play better with a gold PL team than a stacked one

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:46 AM PST

I had a 190 team, having players like prime rio, cr7, ney,ar, etc

Recently i tried using a gold PL team 181 rated: rodrigo, vinicus, adama, laporte, gomez, etc

I'm actually getting better results using the 181 rated team!

And I think i know why: When people see you have a stack team, they feel as if you insulted their mom, so they put their heart out there on the field to destroy you, so they can message you with even more hateful adjectives

But when you have a low rated gold team, they tend to under-estimate you and make more mistakes by trying riskier passes, multiple dumb bridges, etc.

    Change my mind lol.

EDIT: Recently I used an all silver team and I still play better with it than my original stacked team LOL.
