TEAM USA WEEKEND LEAGUE RECAP FINISHES THE MISSION - ELITE 3! Posted: 25 May 2021 01:59 PM PDT In the words of President Kennedy, "we choose to go to the moon and do other things not because they are easy, but because they are hard." One such other thing is taking Team USA (plus operation paperclip baby Van Der Saar) to the elite ranks of FIFA. In the final game of my final weekend league last year, I had 22 wins with an all-US squad and took a 2-0 lead into the half, then lost in pens after a 90th min equalizer. It is, without a doubt, the most painful pixel defeat in all of my life's pixel defeats. This weekend, we took the US to the freaking moon and high-fived Captain America in the cosmic glory that is hitting 23 wins in the weekend league. Some said it couldn't be done, saying things like "your elo isn't high enough to say you can definitely hit elite" and "you suck at FIFA you play so boring" and "jajajajajaja." And there were moments that certainly felt like that, watching 11-1 starts fade into mediocre finishes. But this is America, born of immigrants and back-to-back world war champs. Inventors of freedom and the internet. The GOAT nation with the GOAT national anthem. And I'll tell you one thing – I didn't see any El Tri flags up there on the moon. PREPARING FOR LIFTOFF This week, I exclusively ran a 4-4-2. Defense balanced 4/4, attack balanced 5/6/1/1. Strikers on stay forward/stay central, wings on come back on defense/get into box, one CDM and LB/RB on stay back. If we're still down in the 60th minute, we kick the depth up to 8, go constant press, and throw Lletget on get forward. In terms of play style, I make a ton of little adjustments to get these boys into space. I build up through the wings and will take those sweaty through balls down the line any time I can get them, otherwise I build up very patiently. Lot of L1 runs triggered from the strikers, wings, and Lletget as well. If I'm having trouble breaking through, I'll use overlapping manual runs with the outside backs. Once I get to the box, it's a lot of heel-to-heels, croquetas, and the occasional nutmeg or bridge. Defensively, I manual press in the opponent's half, then play a bit more patient in my own. The whole philosophy of the team – don't make mistakes or give up anything easy, especially in space. With a talent disparity in every match, getting exposed in space means getting killed. But if we take away the opponent's air and force them to play in a cold vacuum, we're in business. Is it sexy? No. But sexy doesn't build rockets, Matt Damon in the Martian notwithstanding. Also Sandra Bullock in Gravity. And Bill Murray in Space Jam, which totally counts. THE FLIGHT PATH 23 wins, 6 losses, 1 game given away at the end because we are a generous and kind people. 69 goals scored – nice – against 42 conceded. An average of 65% possession, 76% shot accuracy, and 92% pass accuracy. 7 shutouts and 5 rage quits forced. I started 10-0. Then I lost 4 of 5 before winning 7 straight. That put us at 18-4. I dropped two in a row, putting us at 18-6. That means I needed to win 5 of my last 6, and I won 5 straight to clinch it. Every game that went to extra time or pens ended in a victory. THE RIGHT STUFF – PLAYER RECAPS Doing it for all of them because it takes everyone to put a man on the moon. ST Gio "NEIL ARMSTRONG" Reyna – 24G/10A/7MVP. The first and last man to score on the weekend, including an otherworldly shimmy to get the winner in the 22nd game against a much better player and god squad. Had some ludicrous chip shots over the course of the weekend. Hero. Patriot. Legend. ST Christian "BUZZ ALDRIN" Pulisic – 23G/11A/9MVP. The heart, soul, and spark plug of the lunar mission. He sees the criticism that the moon landing was faked and punches you in the freaking jaw. Dances like a goddamn butterfly on the endline, canceled croqueta into heel-to-heel into finesse shot generated 5-6 early goals. Our favorite son, written in the stars and now in the annals of my FUT tracker. CM Sebastian "MISSION CONTROL" Lletget – 7G/15A/2MVP. You wouldn't think that a 78 rated CM would be able to tear the Sanchez, Kimmich, Goretzka, and Gullit types apart. But here he is, leading the squad in assists, shepherding the team out of press and danger, and occasionally chip in himself for a goal. He had the most touches on the team and the maestro that made the mission a success. CM Aaron "TOM HANKS" Long – 2G/10A/2MVP. We switch him with Adams in game – first time trying that – and my god, this man can play any role. He honest to god felt like Viera with his long legs and very truck-like turning ability. Absolutely stole the show in a couple games, including CRUSHING a Pele to trigger a breakaway goal. Plus, when things go wrong, he is the calm collected captain that put out the fires, just like Tom Hanks in Apollo 13. Lunch pail guy who does the job well. Unquestionably American. Champion. LM Timo "GARY SINISE" Weah – 6G/5A/1MVP. An amazing supporting actor who made Apollo 13 (and Forrest Gump) better. He may not do as much as Gyau or Puli or Reyna, but he shows up, plays consistent, and raises the level of the team. If anything, he's underutilized and too quick to let the other stars shine. RM Joseph "CHUCK YEAGER" Gyau – 7G/11A/2MVP. A speedster that broke the sound barrier and started it all. In my heavily right-handed attack, Gyau did the zooming down the wing and set up the other lads for success. Good for the occasional cut in and rip near post as well. Got damn good at using the player lock pass with him to set up Reyna on breakaways. He may not be the headliner of the space program, but damn if he wasn't a critical piece. RB Sergino "BOOSTERS" Dest – 0G/0A/0MVP. He may not take the ball all the way to the goal, but he gets it out of the atmosphere and his speed can bring a different dimension to the attack. His recovery runs and a brief stint at CB in a game with 10 men kept the mission from falling back to earth. A prodigy and an igniter of offense. CB Ike "SATURN V" Opara – 0G/0A/0MVP. The strong foundation of the whole program. Fast approaching 500 games, Opara is a massive and fast obstacle to any opponent's attack. I truly don't think I conceded off a through ball in the middle of the park this week – that's all on Ike. A club icon that made it all possible. CB Tyler "APOLLO" Adams – 0G/0A/0MVP. Without him, this mission may not have been possible. A god of defense and passing. He gets switched from CDM right away, and his brilliant passing out the back was able to break press and serve as the foundation for the whole weekend. Fast, agile, and took the team to new heights. LB Nick "NASA JANITOR" Lima – 0G/0A/0MVP. Old Beanie was our striker until Future Stars. Though he may not have the role of the other players, he'd be the first to tell you he's helping put a man on the moon. He does the little things that make the big stuff possible. He has truly earned his place among the stars. GK Edwin "OPERATION PAPERCLIP" – 7 clean sheets. The sole import on the team, but a man of great importance. Without his work, this wouldn't have been possible. Super Sub Darlington "MILKY WAY" Nagbe – 0G/2A/0MVP. Bring him in for Lletget in extra time. The kind of man who dares to dream, dares to imagine, dares to create. When all others see exhaustion and limitation, Nagbe sees possibility. Had a couple critical assists to win extra time games. Hats off and a patriotic salute for all the boys who made it possible. Special shout out to Wes "HOUSTON" McKennie and Tyler "CAPE CANAVERAL" Boyd, other subs who weren't used but have played critical parts throughout the year. Also, salute has been my default celly all year because the freedom commands it. POST-MISSION DEBRIEFING Now that we have beaten the odds and stacked mega-teams of TOTS, this is the end of a two-year mission and journey. This is likely my retirement from the weekend league, as I'm switching jobs next month, getting married in July and am just generally moving to a less gaming friendly stage of life. I set out on this mission because I think it captures what I love about the American spirit – rebelling against the unbalanced, the unfair, the impossible and the rigged in pursuit of something greater. You get that kind of attitude when you win independence from a global empire and redefine the limits of gravity. Admittedly, the country strays from that often – and I stray from that at times when playing FIFA. RNG, pay to win, Vancouver rats have gotten to me more times than I can count this year. I was 14-4 at one point this weekend, feeling discouraged and frustrated because I got a soft red with Adams in one game, then forgot to switch Adams back in for the next eligible game, leading to back-to-back losses. I felt the odds stacking up against me, needing to go 9 for 12. Then my fiancée told me that she believed I would win. A few games later, I needed to win 2 of 3 to clinch E3 and was playing a far superior player. I went down one early to some BS and those doubts came creeping in. It's rigged, it's RNG, it's EA. But I remembered what she said, and that reminded me of that spirit I play the game for. I came back, won it, and won the next one. I'd be happy to give more specific tactic/skill/gameplay advice in the comments if there's interest. But my one piece of advice that was most critical to my success – when the game feels like it's stacked against you, when it seems to hard, go back to the chant. I! I BELIEVE! I BELIEVE THAT WE! I BELIEVE THAT WE! Thanks for reading, god bless you, and may god bless the United States of America. [link] [comments] |

Training arena in Ultimate Team Posted: 25 May 2021 12:57 PM PDT It's probably one of the minor changes that I'd like to see in FIFA (because we all know that there are some other problems that are really annoying) but an FUT arena to freely train using the players in your club, should be something that MUST be in the game. Why should I train using the basic version of a card? I have SPOTM Bruno Fernandez and I'd love to be able to shot some freekicks with his to learn the best way to score directly (not every player shoots them in the same way). On top of it all I'd like to try a new player (let's say Lozano TOTS) in the freeplay arena, in order to see his agility, his skills, how he moves etc and I already know that it's not the same way then trying it with the base version. People with lots of fodder, what are your plans? Posted: 25 May 2021 02:28 PM PDT I have 1m+ in fodder, don't know what to do Do pim Desailly or wait for something else But the problem is all the remaining potential cards (Maldini, Zidane, Matthaus) would be certainly way too expensive So what you gonna do? What you think will happen in the icon sbc world? [link] [comments] |

41212 Narrow advice from an Elite 3 player. Posted: 25 May 2021 02:20 AM PDT I'm not one for posting lengthy formation guides, but I keep seeing the same thing on so many 41212 setups so I thought I'd post some advice. I caveated this with the fact that I'm an Elite 3 player, mainly because this advice helped me to get Elite regularly. I've tried many other setups this year but apart from an attacking 352, I think the 41212 Narrow is completely clear this year. Although without doing the following 3 things, I personally feel that you aren't getting the most from the formation. 1).... The strikers don't need to be on 'Get in Behind' in order to be effective - I see so many people having both strikers getting in behind. All that this is going to do is limit your options when you attack. I know that through balls are super OP but you're better off playing to the feet of both strikers with their back towards goal. This gives you the luxury of playing a one-two with one of your midfielders and THEN triggering the run in behind. If you play on a fairly high depth then your strikers are already fair up enough anyway, you don't really need them sprinting in behind before you've barely even controlled the ball with your midfielder. 2).... Have both CMs on balanced - this is a big one. I see some people having both on Stay Back. Some people having one on Stay Back and one Get Forward. The optimal tactic for this IMO is both on Balanced. Particularly if you have a CM with decent work rates, you'll get the best of both worlds. Your CM will help to defend and shield your defence and break up their midfield, but when you attack, they also supplement your options and give you so much more options to either build up slowly or hold the ball long enough and your CMs will overlap your CAM overload your opponent to devastating effect. 3).... Have a striker, winger, out-and-out attacker as one of the CMs - This is probably the biggest tip I'd give to 41212 Narrow users. I see so many setups that have a CDM and two box to box midfielders as their midfield in the 41212. Honestly, you do not need that much defensive support. Play an attacker here and when they're on balanced, they'll break forward when your opponent is already defending against the CAM (stay forward) and both strikers who are occupying them, which again gives you a great option. I play Baby Maradona as my RCM and I usually end up having a left foot finesse opportunity just because he breaks forward onto the edge of their box and is completely unmarked. If you played a 442 you'd have a CDM and CM, or two CMs etc, so you don't need 3 in this setup. Similarly, the 4222 and 4231 etc all have only two so try and think that way with the 41212 Narrow. You can afford to have a striker here! For example I have PIM Essien as my CDM, TOTS De Jong as my LCM, Diego as my RCM and FB Coutinho as my CAM. Before I upgraded my team I was hitting Elite with Kante as CDM, NIF Rashford as my RCM etc. I'm sure that some people already do one or more of these things, but if this advice helps just person then it's worth it. EDIT: For those asking about PI & CT, I play; Balanced. 4. 7. Fast Build Up.
Both strikers left on balanced. CAM - Stay forward. LCM and RCM - Left on Balanced and Cover Wing. CDM - Stay Back, Cover Centre. Back four on Stay Back. GK on Comes for Crosses and Sweeper Keeper. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2021 07:54 PM PDT We all know that a tonne of cards have fake stats. Now that TOTS is out, there is a load of cards with the usual fake and fraudulent stats but who for you has been the biggest frauds? I'll start with TOTS Benzema. I absolutely loved his HL card but dear Lord the blue card is a massive sack of shit. Edit: not sure why I'm getting downvotes... I'm trying to help everyone find cards to avoid lmao [link] [comments] |
Anybody else just lost their shit with SBCs and now can't fit the players in? Posted: 25 May 2021 06:36 AM PDT I had a lovely team all set up, a french prem and La Liga hybrid and then the Bundes TOTS happened and my team has become overrun with midfielders. I've got Sabitzer, Bellingham, Olmo as a three with Amiri, Barella, Fekir, FB Payet, FB Ozil all waiting in the wings and I bloody go and do Fred... I'm looking at Fellaini in the wrong kind of way too now. I think I've got a problem. [link] [comments] |
Server connection is a huge factor in gameplay. Posted: 25 May 2021 10:18 AM PDT I've been playing for a long time but now noticing the effects of bad ping. Basically, if you're on the slower end of connection to the server, your team will feel like they're running in a swimming pool, everyone is sluggish. And if your opponent is on the faster end of connection, they'll feel like they're two steps ahead of you at all times. I experienced this greatly last night playing fut draft. My attackers were toty Mbappe, tots Ronaldo, prime Eusebio. I thought this team was unstoppable. Right? Wrong. My first matchup said I had 24-30 ping, that's about the best I ever get. Worst is around 40. My opponent had a strong team as well, but there was nothing I can do. My attackers all felt sluggish and useless. I could barely take a couple steps without getting hammered by a midfielder. Score ended up being 8-4, three of my four goals were corner kick-> Ronaldo header, seemed to be the only way I could score. Next fut draft my front 3 were tots Ronaldo, SIF Zaha, headliner Bruno. My first opponent again said I had 24-30 ping. But I'm pretty sure my opponent was based in Central America based off his team name and had a worse connection than me. My experience was the exact reverse of the last game. I always felt two steps ahead of my opponent and there was nothing he could do. His team(great players) felt slow and I kept hammering him with my midfielders. Score was 9-0. For reference, my SR is ~2000. I just think it sucks that this is what it comes down to. I already know who's going to win based off the first 2 minutes of gameplay. Just wanted to note my experience. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2021 02:42 PM PDT This game is the so called best football game and yet the servers are not enough. It does not matter whether it is rivals or friendlies or wl matches. I mean this is getting really frustrating. Also matchmaking is pure bs. My ping is 60-90 and yet my opponents are mostly 10-20. This is a fucking huge gap. I can't dribble or tackle as quick as them and yet fifa says that this is a fair match up. But the real problem is even though there is big gap in ping, i can still compete but when 60 ping doesn't feel like 60 ping then it feels like hell. I mean wtf. There is no indicators for connection so wtf is problem? [link] [comments] |
Mini review of Barella and Naingollan in weekend league Posted: 25 May 2021 07:20 AM PDT So after a reaching gold 3 which is what I was aiming for I decided to do a little review on nainggolan and barrella, they were used on a 4321 with fb Vidal alongside them. Barella played as a ccm with the drop between defenders instruction since he is the most defensive minded of the three, he's a really aggressive Dm with a really good tackle and more strength that it appears, his passing is really good and specially his ability to push the team forward from deep make me love him, his shooting is nothing special but I only tried long shots with him, his pace helps him getting back into position since sometimes he's out of position given how aggressive he is but that was never really a huge issue for me but it can be for others, I would really recommend you getting him. Stats: 0 goals 6 assist Now nainggolan played as a lcm trying to play the box to box role, and what ca I say this guy is a different breed, he's everywhere, first of all I want to say that his 3* wf is a lie no matter shooting or passing it never really let me down, so his pace is really great can catch up to most player (except waman maybe) his passing didn't disappoint most of the time, his shooting inside the box this guy doesn't miss and from outside the box is really good but with the autoblocks and everything I didn't shoot so much from there, his defending is good but I would no put him as a primary dm since sometimes I felt that his awareness was not the best , still this is a monster card that can do a lot of things. Stats: 8 goals 8 assist If anyone is wondering my ranking would be:

Posted: 25 May 2021 02:45 PM PDT It sounds like a ridiculous question but Im in Div 1 and nearly everyone I face is doing a heavy touch when they pass it to one of their players leaving my defender stood still. I can't find any consistent way of defending it. How do you do it? [link] [comments] |
Cross play would make fifa better and decrease que times. Posted: 25 May 2021 06:51 AM PDT Sony and microsoft should team up with electronic arts to provide cross play between the two consoles and pc. The only problem could be an over saturation of the market or bots getting access to a massive transfer market with 3 platforms on it. It would probably be best to keep the markets separate but allow matchmaking between platforms. Who knows maybe EA could monitor botting allot easier on one market. As someone on pc seeing the consoles having most of the player base I feel left out. Hopefully since the new generation of consoles have caught up in terms of performance to an extent that all I've mentioned is possible. :) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 May 2021 04:02 PM PDT Myself and my two younger brothers who are twins have grown up playing FIFA. We still have an xbox 360, and play FIFA17 offline just against each other. It's the only video game I've really ever played significantly. In the fall they're off to university, and I wanted to buy each of us a console so we can keep up and play together. Now excuse my lack of awareness of anything with online gaming, but I need help deciding which console to go for. Am I correct in saying both the Xbox and the PS5 need monthly subscriptions for us to have the capability of us playing against each other? I'm very far removed from FIFA outside of two people playing side-by-side on the same console, so I appreciate the help in advance!! [link] [comments] |
