| MSN 2: The Reckoning (Barcelona 14/15 WL Recap) Posted: 26 Jul 2021 06:44 PM PDT I'm back after taking a week off, and I find that there's a La Liga WL challenge/objective. So I felt it was time to go back to past UCL winners. And since I already did Real Madrid (shameless plug), it was time for the other half of El Clasico, Barcelona. And like Madrid, Barcelona had an abundance of Icons to choose from, so I took the approach of my A.C. Milan squad and focused on a particular side in general. And who better than the MSN era of Barcelona (since a majority of that side is still in the game). And I don't care what stage of the game it is, this was my pinnacle finish this weekend. Let us review.
Housekeeping first. So to reiterate from last time, did not do the Busquets SBC nor the Pique SBC. Throw in the Rakitic SBC as well, although I was strongly considering that one. Also, Puyol retired the season prior so that's why he's not here. Also, I went with Bravo ahead of Ter Stegen even though MATS started the final. Finally, Adama and Grimaldo filled out the rest because they were in the youth ranks at the time. Tactics Defense: Pressure after Possession Loss W4/D9 Offense: Possession W10/Players in Box 7 Bravo: Come for Crosses/Sweeper Keeper Fullbacks: Join the Attack/Overlap CDM (Xavi): Cut Passing Lanes/Stay Back/Cover Center LCM (Iniesta): Get Forward/Stay on the Edge/Free Roam Messi: Come Back/Free Roam/Come Short/Get into the Box Suarez: Drift Wide/Get in Behind/Stay Forward Neymar: Stay Forward/Cut Inside/Get in Behind/Get into the Box. Now normally I'd have a backup formation, but since all Barcelona has done is run this 4-3-3 (2), I kept the same formation just with different instructions. So again, if asked I'll provide. 2. THE WEEKEND (a.k.a The Holy Trinity) Highest finish, highest amount of goals scored, it was beautiful. As for the journey…. a. Friday (5-5) After the typical 2/5 placement start, started to get a feel with this side. Almost half of the first 10 games went to ET and one hit penalties. It was slog but we got to .500. b. Saturday (4-6; 9-11 overall) Take the drainage of the first day and multiply it by 100. Three of my losses came in extra time, two came from 90 min shenanigans and and the other was a drubbing. Still, the fact the games were so close (for the most part) was good. c. Sunday (8-2) I don't know what the hell happened that day. After going W-L-W-L, I racked off six straight victories to end it. I originally was going to stop at 15 for the picks, but decided "Eh…why not" and it actually worked out for once. 3. Stats and Reviews SS Claudio Bravo - 7.5/10; 3 A (Didn't spill too many shots. Came out of goal when needed. And made key saves when needed. Throw in three assists and he had himself quite a good run) IF Sergi Roberto - 7/10 (Performed decently on the right flank. Passing was decent considering the card and could move well enough. Made his money when I moved to RCB for Pique. Positioning was good and cut out passing around my box.) Hero Gerard Pique - 6.5/10 (As long he was the last one back and was near the box, he was unbeatable. His frame is what makes him work as he can get in front of anything and stop runners. Usually came off at HT) IF Marc Bartra - 7/10 (The lightning of the CBs. Could afford to go a bit further up the pitch as he could track runners better. Strong in his tackles and could block well) SS Jordi Alba - 9/10; 1 G/1 A (Still as strong as the last time I used him. Zooms up and down the flank easily and kill nearly every counter. Crossing is excellent and found himself a goal as well) PIM Xavi - 8.5/10; 7 G/9 A/2 MOTM (Probably the most attacking DM I've used. Functions better as a box-to-box and it showed in his play. Still for defensive purposes, he performed alright. Won balls according to his instructions, could carry it out from the backline) IF Ivan Rakitic - 7/10; 4 G/5 A/1 MOTM (Of the two forward CMs, he was the ball winner of the two. Floated as a box-to-box and could pick out a pass decently. Has a surprisingly good finesse shot) Moments Andres Iniesta - 9.5/10; 12 G/12 A (Served more as a CAM. He played like one too. Got forward and served as the maestro of the attack. Assists may not show it but he made the attack tick) MSN - ♾/10; 88 G/64 A/26 MOTM (Words cannot express how deadly this trio is. Whatever WHATEVER you need them to do, they will do it. Without fail. It was frightening how excellent they were). Birthday Adama Traore - 8/10; 5 G/2 A (Super Sub for the RW. Messi moved to LW. Neymar to the Iniesta role. Rescued a game for me on a many occasion. Also, unlike last time, not as many shootouts so he could play in way more games and provide more of an attacking threat) Headliner Rafinha - 7/10; 1 G/2 A (Came on for Rakitic and moved into the DM role, allowing Xavi to move up. Slightly better in the DM role as he didn't ventue forward as much. More of a ball winner than Xavi) TOTS Grimaldo - 8.5/10; 2 A (Came on for Pique and played the RB role. Provided the pace that Roberto lacked. Stronger in tackles and much better crosser of the ball) 4. Verdict and next Team Goals were clearly not an issue this WL. And it appeared that any defensive shortcomings could be solved with "Score at 4-5 goals and you should be fine". Apparently it worked considering the Gold 2 finish. All in all, an excellent time with this side as I was able to play the style of football Barca is known for (well…maybe not now but still). Let's see if we get a themed WL this week before I decide on anything. Personally I'm leaning towards either Serie A or Bundesliga. Until next time…. [link] [comments] |

| The Draft Milestone challenges are a real missed opportunity Posted: 26 Jul 2021 08:32 AM PDT If the requirements were games played and not wins- I could see the mode being really popular again, but losing your first game means you make no progress and then you have to waste even more time building another squad by going back to square one. For players like myself (I'm pretty average at the game) it seems like an extremely unreliable way of spending your time when rewards can be more consistently achieved elsewhere. The tip is, if you have an 84 untradeable then the following combinations allow for an easier path to the chemistry requirements, you just need to find a country or league with lots of 80 rated players, in the right positions.
