PSA for the people thinkings of doing pim pele.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:12 AM PDT

To be able to complete this you need a minimum of 28x11 = 308 players rated 85+ in your club. Just thought you should be prepared.

    Edit: Breakdown

    33 90+

    55 89+

    55 88+

    55 87+

    44 86+

    44 85+

And the brizilian squad just for lols. Good luck.

Might actually finish swaps and do this. It is the end of the game anyways. I'll wait for batch 2 after I've opened the 95+ just Incase EA decide to screw me and give me a dupe one last time before the game ends. And then do him I'll get like 15-20 days of him before fifa 22.

I commend thee who completed Dinho SBC

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 05:12 PM PDT

Decided I'd complete Pele as my last big SBC before 22 (Renato/Mendy excepted maybe).

    I've completed the bronze, silver, 84 Brazil, 4 85 squads, 4 86 squads and 3 90 squads and it's an absolute marathon!

I've even had it easy as I bought 40 Benzema 2 weeks ago thinking he'd rise for 55k so I'm just chucking one of those into each segment and will sell the 10 left.

Therefore, I'm only really buying 1/2 players per squad so far as my club is stacked with 79-82 rated players.

So kudos to you guys who did Dinho.

    15 squads to go - 5 a day.

EA have to find a solution to make this easier.

Fix penalty shootouts in FIFA 22

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 03:20 PM PDT

It's honestly ridiculous that we can't chose the order of our penalty takers. I don't want my CDM with 70 penalties taking a pen over my specialist penalty takers just because I subbed the CDM on. It's stupid how the game doesn't automatically order your takers from highest penalty stat to lowest

Elite 3 - Gold to Elite FUT Tutorial

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 02:34 AM PDT

So today I finally achieved my goal of hitting elite for the first time ever, finishing 24-6 on my fairly new RTG account with a squad worth around 1 million coins at the time of purchase. I narrowly missed out on Elite 2, losing in the 120min of the decisive game. I have played Fifa since FIFA 10 but have never been as into FUT as I have this year. I have played every single weekend since release trying to hit elite, and my first weekend league of the year was 15 wins. I really do not care about the rewards. It started out as a goal during the pandemic and I have been grinding every weekend towards this since.

Apart from being super excited, I really want to share a guide on how to improve that moves away from the usual cliche advice such as take breaks, dont play jaded, space out games etc. I will of course talk about some of these, but I really wanted to give a holistic view on how to improve in FIFA 21, including the small things that never even crossed my mind when I was a gold 2 player.

First off, here is my weekend league team review and tactics though!

    https://preview.redd.it/4b8syraxxag71.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39476be4cd46375924e22b2990540fbb6849b72d

GK - Gold Nick Pope - 4/10. Honestly, he felt outdated. I really was not bothered to upgrade him for some reason. The biggest let down was the occasional 1v1s that I felt VDS or some tots gk would save. He also drops the ball and passes it at a snail pace. I actually conceded two goals this weekend due to pope giving the ball away under high pressure due to his lack of speed.

LB - Futties Telles - 7/10. Solid defender, but let down by the lack of skill moves. I often rely on small croqueta cancels to get out of trouble under high pressure. But he kind of lacks that slight ability to get out of tight situations. Solid otherwise though

CB - TOTS AWB - 9/10. This guy was a monster. I have done the ramos SBC, but AWB has these magical long legs that autoblock everything and he catches up to attackers with no issue. I honestly feel he is the best CB in the game.

CB - FOF Chilwell - 7/10. Fairly average pacy "fullback at center back." Satisfies the meta and fills the gap nicely chemistry wise. Did not really put a foot wrong but was not outstanding either. Often beat in the air though.

RB - TOTS Navas - 6/10. The weakest of the back four. Often exposed in the air and bullied off the ball. But really agile and good going forward

CM - 91 UEL Pogba 8/10. I don't know how to describe him. He was usually gassed by the 75th minute, but he is tall, has five star skills, and has this odd unique agility and flair to him that made him boss the midfield. Negatives would be the stamina, and the fact that he could be quite clunky - especially playing under pressure or server delay

CM 92 FB Thiago 7/10. Five star skills make him really viable. His pace was a big let down, but his agility more than anything made him extremely fun to use.

LM - 90 UEL Rashford 7/10. Pacy, tricky, fast, and an extremely good option up front or on the wing. However, the biggest let downs were his stamina, his left foot, and his composure at times. It just felt really off. He missed quite a few clear cut chances on his left foot.

RM - 92 TOTS Vazquez 8/10. Jack of all trades, master of none. But he is so reliable. He almost reminds me of acuna minus the five star skills and weak foot. It helps having a wide player like him because if you change formations, he can literally play anywhere

ST - 95 SS Isak 10/10. This guy was the star. He is out of this world amazing. I don't know what it is about this card, but I think the only player who has come even remotely close to the joy this guy brings me was RB talisca earlier in the game. He dribbles like he is 5 foot 2, has the strength of akinfenwa, and bullies defenders in the air like CR7. The complete player. I really do not know why he is as cheap as he is. I think he is better than TOTY CR7, Mbappe, and Neymar. His directional nutmeg and heel to heel take him 100 meters forward.

ST - 93 FOF Felix - 7/10. A good complementary player to Isak, as he often drops a bit deeper to get the ball to feet and has the skills to find space. Kind of reminds me of a worse version of neymar or cruyff. He got the job done, but he was way too weak on the ball. I would never play him as a lone striker. He probably is best suited to being a CAM.

    Tactics:

I used two main tactics, the 4-4-2, and the 4-3-1-2 through the weekend. I used the 4-4-2 for the first 14 games, and then when I started matching better players, I switched to the 4-3-1-2 to try and play better players at their own game.

442: Balanced, Width 5, Depth 10, Possession, Width 5, Players in the box 5, corners 1, FK 1

4312: PAPL, Width 5, Depth 10, Possession, Width 5, Players in the box 5, corners 1, FK 1

The only instructions I had on were for the fullbacks to stay back while attacking

My formation for when I went 2-0 down in the 60th min onwards was the 4312 above, but I just changed it to constant pressure as opposed to PAPL

With all this out there, now I want to really get to the point of this post, which is really to explore all the different tiny details of the game that are really important that helped me go from gold 2 to gold 1 consistently, and now have allowed me to hit elite. I am going to sort out the advice by categories

    1) Defense, 2) Offense, 3) Miscellaneous (ie. timing of games etc.)

    1) Defense:

I am sure you guys have all heard of Boras' guide to defending. If not, it is a good overview of the basics of defending. But this is merely the basics. I want to focus more on the decision making as opposed to the mechanics. Because, really, 95% of the mechanics of defending are player switching, running jockey, and jockey, covering through balls, and the occasional tackle. You have to learn to use the right stick and L1/LB. There are numerous guides on this.

I rarely press tackle, use running jockey 95% of the time unless I am pinned into my box, at which point I may just use jockey and tap sprint depending on the situation. I always use the right stick to switch unless I am in the box and need to switch in a split second, at which point I will use L1 to ensure I get the correct CB. One wrong player switch in the box and you are screwed though.

I have spent the year trying so many different styles of defending out, from drop back 5 ATB, to pressing high up the pitch like a maniac, and I think the best way to go about it is a high press unless you start to get pinned into your own box. What do I mean by this...well I am going to talk you through how I defend based on where the ball is on the pitch.

The first and most important concept though is MAINTAIN SHAPE. I do not mean be passive, but if you move a player out of their position, make sure that player is back in their position (or relatively close) before you over commit another player to compensate for the first wrong move.

    So here we go:

When the opposition player has the ball with their goalkeeper at his feet, I do NOT rush my strikers out to the goalie to press the ball. I maintain shape and start spamming the offisde trap button to narrow the gap between the defensive lines from back to front. While doing this, I use my strikers to cover central options ( CDM/CMs) so that the ball goes wide to the fullbacks, or to the center backs. The goal of this is to not allow the ball to get in between your strikers and center mids, nor allow it to get in between your CB-CM (which is the worst position to be in).

When the ball is with the centerbacks, I do the same as above, but I am a bit more aggressive with applying some pressure while continuing to cut off passing lanes. However, cutting off the passing options takes precedence. So if there is any doubt, maintain the high line (ie. offside trap), but still cut off the ball from going in between the lines.

With the above, I will sequentially cut off each passing lane until the opponent passes the ball. So in like the one to three seconds you have, Try and get your STs in the lane of the CMS, the LM/RM close to their fullbacks, and press the offisde trap button to not allow a large gap in the midfield. I press the offside trap button about 5-6 times if the opponent has the ball here with their defenders, and every time they continue to hold on to it, I will make sure my centerbacks are right on the halfway line.

If the ball is with the opponent's fullbacks, there are two things I do, I cut off central passes, and then quickly player switch to the fullback and ensure there is no easy 80 yard ping pong through ball down the wing that can be exploited. I otherwise leave the opponent's full back alone. I also still spam offisde trap, but you have to be careful of the outside through ball. If instead the opponent starts bombing down the wing with the fullback, that's perfect. Because chances are he will lose the ball, and now you will have a space to exploit.

Now what happens if it gets past the first line to the opponent's center mids or right or left mids? There are two options.

    A) If your opponent is playing fast/not patient, and is really aggressive or quick with his passing, focus on cutting off passing lanes one at a time while applying pressure to the ball. How do you do this? Take the first player you control (usually CDM/CMs) and move him to where you think the opposition player will pass. Once you do this, take a second player, and cut off another passing lane etc. This is exhausting at times to constantly think through what he is thinking about and be switched on, but I really think that this anticipation is so important to defending and is what sets gold 2 and gold 1 or elite 3 apart. Try to take the player closest to the area they naturally occupy to do this. For example, I am not going to take my LM and make him cut off a lane up front near the strikers... Or the worst is if you pull out a CM or CDM to cover a winger or fullback. What happens then if you overcommit is your opponent just has to make two or three passes and his striker is up against your CB 1v1 with no CM or CDM cover. If the opponent is playing fast and at a high tempo, everytime he turns his back to goal, I will press the offside trap button to add that little bit of extra pressure and force him into a mistake. This usually works really well and you can win the ball back fairly quickly against impatient players.

    B) If your opponent is ball hogging or keeps possession really well, then I usually start to pay him a bit more respect, ease off slightly on the offisde trap, and more rely on the auto offside that 10 depth provides. However, good players usually can keep the ball under immense pressure and start to pin you into your box. So in this case what I usually will do, is use my CM/CDMs to defend and just focus on cutting off passing lanes. I will literally never control by CBs until they are isolated 1v1. As soon as the ball goes to the opponent's striker though and there is a potential for a dangerous 1v1 in the box, I will switch to the CB and try to win the ball.

    NOW - THIS IS IMPORTANT:

A ) In 2vs2 situations - ie. their STs vs your CBs, (ie. on counters when they are trying to ping pong 1-2s to get in behind), If you commit incorrectly you usually will concede. So in this case, the safer option is to not commit either CB and start to chase back with you CDM or CM until he forces a pass or over commits. Some T200 players and E1 players though notice this and they will stop and skill you to oblivion. So in very rare occasions, I will control my CBs and press one of the strikers, but only if I am really really sure I am not going to get burned by a 1-2. Really aggressive T200 players like anders switch between their CBs as the 1-2 passes go back and forth and cover both at the same time. I can't keep up with this.

    B) Defending in the box: This is the hardest part of the game and is my kryptonite. It is why I can not make 5ATB formations consistently succesful. I just get pinned in too much, and there are some fifa savants out there that will skill you to death and react like they are on a permanent cocaine rush - it's honestly incredible. However, 90% of people do not do anything too crazy. Focus on staying in front of the attacker. If the player is close, I usually will just tap the sprint button while holding jockey, so I do not get sent to the netherworld with a simple left stick dribble. The main skills to anticipate are the directional nutmeg (give the player a little space/dont get too tight), the stop and elastico, and the croqueta or croqueta cancel.

    C) Goalie Movement: I still have not mastered this. But if you can anticipate cross shot goals and move your goalie slightly, this can honestly alone get you 1-2 extra wins a weekend. If a player is through on goal 1v1, try not to pull your goalie out too early as most good players will just chip you or ball roll/heel to heel around you. Bring him out slightly and move him back, or wait for the opponent and go manual control. But do something unexpected as a last resort.

    D) Through Ball Spam: I actually find if you have a pacy backline, Defending through balls is much much easier than defending deep in the box. Cover runs to a certain point, but dont drop one player way behind the defensive line to cover a possible through ball. This will leave you vulnerable and allow the through ball a greater chance of success. I only cover open triggered runs or very obvious non-triggered natural player runs (like on the sideline). If the player gets in behind, there is a good chance that your CB can catch them if they are fast enough.

    E) Beating Constant Pressure: So this is the biggest pain to deal with. I have lost so many leads to this BS mechanic. I have been up 2-0 versus a 30-0 pro, conceded twice in the 86th and 90th minute and lost 3-2 in ET after he activated the team press in the last 10 mins. It is honestly broken. But I have a few tips to minimize the inevitable.

    A) Use the 4312. I dont know what it is. I have literally tried everything from 4-4-2, to 5-2-3, 5-3-2 to 3-4-2-1. I literally have tried every formation in the game. Five at the back is the WORST for dealing with this because your midfield options are limited and you usually end up being pinned back under immense pressure. I find 4-4-2 is usable, but if you lose the ball, you only have 2 CMs covering and your players are too spaced out. The 4312 is really good because for some reason, the opponent's press is really central when you play this formation, which means your fullbacks are usually open and able to run wide and bomb down the wing to waste time or play a through ball to an open striker.

The second biggest advice I have is to take the ball as wide and high up the pitch as possible. Turn on hug sideline on your D PAD and just keep the ball for as long as possible, as wide as possible, and as high as possible up the pitch.

The third advice I have is to match the aggressiveness if possible. If I have a two goal lead and they start pressing me in minute 70-75, I will usually turn on my own team press. If you start sitting back and letting them come in waves, you usually will concede a BS 90min equalizer of some kind. Turn on your own PAPL or constant press if possible.

    2) Offense:

Ok so offense is the fun part. There are numerous mechanical factors as well as gameplay factors that go into making your attack better. And some of them I just have never really seen addressed. I am going to talk about the mechanics that I learned through practice that I never really noticed when watching youtubers or tutorials.

    Offense Mechanics:

Everyone knows the basics (croquetas, croqueta cancels, directional nutmegs, first time fake shots etc.) Practice these so you have the timing of these obvious mechanics mastered. Below are ones I have picked up that I do not really see other opponents use as much.

    1) R1 Dribble: This is a godsend for getting out of tight spaces. If an opponent is running towards you, hold the r1 dribble button and move your left stick backwards then and side to side. It takes a bit of practice, but you can master this in literally 2-3 games. This move is so important for keeping the ball on the wing/ or when being pressed after a corner etc. It is best applied when you have your back to your opponent and he is running towards you to get the ball. Hold r1 - and dribble directly away from him and strafe side to side. It is a godsend versus annoying constant pressure or team press and can literally get you out of any tight press or allow you to keep the ball in the corner for an endless amount of time.

You can even combine this with a directional nutmeg. Player too close to you? Move back with the r1 dribble to create the angle, and then hit them with the directional nutmeg.

    2) L1/LB stop: Why does nobody mention this? This is literally the most OP move in the game. There are two ways you can use this.

When you trigger an offesnive run, you have one player running in behind, and then usually you have another player controlled, running to create that annoying 45 degree angle to launch that ping-pong BS through ball. Most good players will cover the through ball. BUT press l1, - your controlled player will stop. Your opponent will be confused. Some players switch to the player closest to the player you are controlling and negate following the runner for the through ball. Other times, they continue to cover the through ball and you are free to change the angle of the through ball or wait for the perfect time, and now you are through on goal. It changes the through ball BS mechanic slightly and allows you to really nail that perfect through ball without having it covered. In other words, it gives you a unique opportunity to exploit one of the most BS broken mechanics in the game.

The other way to use this is when you are jogging slightly away from goal close to the opponents box, tap l1 and your player will stop and face forward instantly, from here you can literally face up the player 1v1 and do any skill you want. Most players do not expect this. Everyone knows about the fake shot stop. But that animation takes time and is obvious. It gives your opponent the chance to tackle you. This L1 stop is way more OP but for some reason, very few players exploit it. you can even stop, do a skill, stop again, do another skill..etc. This really gets to some opponents

    3) Directional fake shot stop. My controller has custom controls, but for me this is hold R1 and hit a fake shot in a certain direction. The default fake shot makes your player stop forwards facing the goal. But if you hit it and face your player away from goal, some opponents get really tight, and you can segway into a 1-2 through ball while shielding the ball, or hit them with a broken directional nutmeg...or use the r1 dribble to get out of a tight situation. The other area to use this is when you are using your fullback or winger to get to the byline and you want to stop. Instead of fake shot stopping and facing up the player towards goal, this is a good way to face away from the player, switch it up, and shield the ball while you wait for support.

    4) Corner Exploit: Put corners on 1 in tactics. Take the one guy in the middle of the box, make him run into the net so the defender follows him, run back to the penalty spot, and tap cross. The defender gets stuck in the net and stops following you. Broken exploit. I score 50% of my corners. It even works from time to time when the opposition moves the keeper.

    5) Running scoop turn: Practice this with five star skillers, but right after you do this, mix it up, dont keep running. stop with l1, or do a dragback to change direction. When your opponent realizes you do this, start doing the opposite. Eventually, you will find space just doing this.

    6) Fake-Out player locks: Sometimes, you will trigger a run and your player will be well covered. Player lock to the striker or forward making the run for you, and pretend to change the angle, and then drop him back to recieve the ball into feet. This will give you a whole new option to recycle and keep the ball or create a 1v1 vs the CB.

Another way to use player-lock is on the wing. When you are running with your winger, you can quickly player lock to your striker in the box, drag him back slightly, and tap pass. But now good players anticipate this, so what I will do is player lock to this striker, drag him back slightly, and then swithc off player lock and keep running with my wing player. Your opponent will drag a CB out of posision and now you will be able to run into the box with your wide player

    Offense Mentality:

Now this is really key. Whether you play slow or fast, this is the biggest thing that changed my ability to attack well:

Stop paying attention to your own players, and start paying attention to who your opponent controls and where he is moving his players

This will literally change the way you play fifa. You will start to notice your opponent's deficiencies in defending. There will be times you think players are covered, but in reality, they are not. For example, your opponent is not player switched to the CB behind the striker who is "covered" by the CB. You will notice your opponent is holding sprint while jockeying in which case you can stop suddenly and lose him. You will notice that the midfielder directly in front of you is not controlled, and you can just jog around him. Try it out, it is game changing. I no longer focus on my players during the game. I am 100% of the time focused on what my opponent is doing with the players he controls.

The second biggest tip I have is to value the ball. Pick your moments to go forward. Don't get me wrong, if you keep the ball too long, sometimes you run out of options and get countered easily. But I always prioritize possession. This serves two purposes 1 - it minimizes the time your opponent has to attack you and 1 - it pisses them off and makes them impatient in their defending.

FIFA is mental torture. Everything from the 90min goals, to the server delay etc. If you win the mental battle, most of the time you are halfway there to winning the game. I have had players start to turn on constant pressure at minute 30-45 and lose the game as a result.

    3) Miscellaneous

So this is where the usual generic space out your games etc comes into play. I generally agree with most things you can find on this subreddit, but here is what I have learned by playing every weekend for the past year.

    1) The first five games are really random. Play them whenever you feel like doing so.

    2) The earlier in the WL you play, the harder the games are. For eg, playing 7-0 on Friday is WAY harder than playing from 7-0 on Sunday. You will match pros, elite 1 players, and savant nerds on Friday. Games get WAY easier with under 10 hours left in the weekend league.

    3) You can minimize delay by only playing home games. When you are the home team, you are locked in to your closest server. Look this up on youtube. It really helps in matchmaking. Most pros also only play home games, so you can avoid them by doing this consistently.

    4) Your team does not really matter after a certain extent. Look, obviously gold joe gomez wont cut it anymore. But literally any juiced up 30k tots card is fine. My other account has tots ronaldo, tots neymar, and tots mbappe, and I finish the same rank and usually lose games at a similar ELO. Stop spending $$ to improve your team to seek better results.

    5) Avoid playing during peak times - connection is really important. My ping is usually 40-60ms. Server traffic is key. Play at night if possible, and later in the WL if possible. Use a wired connection.

I hope this helps you guys out. I am looking forward to FIFA22. My goal is to get verified at some point in the future.

I'm really liking FUT right now, wish it was like this all the time!

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:38 AM PDT

Futties has really made me appriciate the potential FUT has. I started a RTG some 3 weeks ago and my team is already the best team I've ever had on FUT. I have put a lot of time in but haven't spent any FIFA-points and I feel like this is what FUT is supposed to be from day 1. The best cards in the game are available to me through SBC's and objectives and I feel like I can compete with all my opponents on a somewhat level playing field. I even managed to pick up PIM-Cruyff (an item I never expected to play with since I don't want to spend my entire salary on FIFA-points) and it just feels amazing to play with a hero of mine.

All the joy I'm getting out of FIFA right now will be crushed in september though when FIFA 22 comes out and I'll be playing with a rare gold team facing credit card FC monster squads again. I wish EA would make it so the best cards are available to everyone all throughout the game's cycle and not just the last 1/2 months. My matches feel skill-based right now and that's the way it's supposed to be in a game that aims to have an e-sports scene. So let's hope EA give us this level of content from the beginning of FIFA 22 and won't wait to make their game good untill it's already dead.

PSA Squad Battle Icon Swaps can be combined

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 10:33 AM PDT

As always the boring squad battles games we suffer can we combined, you have to complete the following:

Eredvisie - (can be done silver or UCL)

Italian - (can be done silver or UCL)

By doing instead of falling asleep for 20 games, you only have to sleep for 10.
