We’re long overdue for a Practice Arena inside of FUT

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 12:12 PM PST

Make each chemistry style a selectable modifier inside the arena so we can end the barbaric practice of trying decide what feels best on a player by going into online games blind and dealing with varying levels of connection quality in each of those games. I want to know how much likelier I am to miss a shot with a individual forward who has a dribbling boost instead of a shooting boost and have peace of mind over the decision I'm making. Also, a proper camera angle so that we can learn relevant muscle memory with directional skill moves at our own free will would be fucking fantastic.

I'll say it again! Blocking needs to be a stat!!!

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:52 PM PST

I've no problem with players blocking shots...but make it a stat, and make shot power or something counter it.

It makes defenders so much less valuable when militao and Joe Gomez block shots as well as VVD or maldini. Make blocking a stat, give VVD 93, give Ramos 92, I don't care. But it shouldn't be contextually based or animation based. And it would make building squads so much more interesting. Do I go for pace or blocking? Etc.

Being able to use players like Mbappe defeats the purpose of Managerial Masterpiece

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 09:41 AM PST

This is not a thread bitching about begin defeated by Blitzkrieg kickoff glitch goals by Mbappe. I've been on either side of that.

But being able to use players like that in a Max 77 rated mode defeats the purpose. There also should be a Max * rated players requirement.

Players like Mbappe just have a field day against those 75 rated defenders/keepers. There is nothing "Managerial Masterpiece" about using the same players as everyone else. It's mostly Mbappe + Kean/Ben yedder and then player you already have in the club.

This is just boring and yes if the requirements allow it you should use Mbappe and other players. But i feel that the requirements should be changed to make it really interesting.

For clarification: I do understand the game mode and have read the description. But chosing between a Superstar and a balanced team in a mode where losing doesn't matter isn't hard. The whole game mode is basically, kick off glitch with Mbappe, score and wait for the quit

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:09 PM PST

It's over guys. All they had to do was fix some basic shit and now they've turned the game into FIFA 19 V2 V2. Can't remember a goal I've scored or conceded post patch that wasn't the result of complete bullfuckery. Passing is worse than ever, body on body collisions are a lottery, and players feel like they're coached by Helen Keller. Gg EA

I normally rip on EA, but live FUT friendlies is the best content change in years...

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:02 PM PST

I'll give credit where credit is due. They may be greedy soulless bastards, but this is a brilliant addition to the game. I'm having fun using teams and players that I never would've tried in FUT 17-20. It makes every card in your club seem more relevant and adds some much-needed variety to the meta-fest that were FUT 17-20.

The only real drawback is that, since these games take place outside the WL/DR/SB reward structures, the time spent in friendlies is less efficient if you want to generate coins.

Can EA take out all the different types of shit balls that are difficult to see ?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:20 PM PST

Some of these balls are ridiculously difficult to see. Just like they do with jerseys, they should let you pick a ball to play with that only you can see. Puts anyone that cant see the ball properly at a huge disadvantage. And I see quite a few people picking balls that are incredibly difficult to see.

Final Game plans in my guide series. Holding a lead, and chasing a goal - Elite rank, Division 1 guide.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:41 PM PST

    Hi all,

Over the past few weeks, I've posted some formation guides that I use to pretty good success in high D1 and Elite rank in weekend league.

These guides gained literally thousands of upvotes, and helped a lot of people out according to the comments.

Initially there was my 41212(2) guide:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FIFA/comments/j7qwym/412122_d1_guide/

. . and then there was my 4222 guide:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FIFA/comments/jk4rsj/4222_elite_rank_division_1_guide/

These are the 2 formations I use for regular gameplay. I typically start off in 4222, and if I'm not finding much joy, I switch to the 41212(2). Both are played aggressively. I don't play possession football, holding on to the ball passing backwards, sideways, few dribbles here and there, few dragbacks, a couple of epileptic seizure elastico's, a few L2 shields etc. Nah, that shit's boring as hell. Of course, I can play that way, but this is a video game. I play for fun. Scoring goals for me, is fun. Looking at irrelevant 70% possession numbers with 2 shots on goal, is not fun for me. It might be for you? That's fine. No problem. You do you, and I'll do me. My guides are for the people who don't want to play that style. Like I said, to each there own. There's no "right" way to play FIFA.

This post isn't going to be going too in depth. It's mostly to address the people in personal messages and the comments of my other guides that ask what I do to hold onto a lead, or what I do when chasing a goal. What formations I switch to, and any tactics I might use.

I won't be going into any player types, etc. as you just use the players you were using in your regular formation. You might want to make a sub here or there if needed, but just use what you've got available.

    On to the game plans:

    HOLDING A LEAD

The game's winding down, and your opponent has switched to some hyper aggressive pressing tactics and formation.

    You're completely under the cosh.

    We've all been there.

I often hear people complain and complain about conceding to 90 minute goals, and a good portion of the time it's because they have not adjusted to their opponents change in mentality. They're still playing the same formation that got them the lead, without making any allowances for the sudden shift in gears from their opponent. This is bad.

To combat this, and to hold on to my lead, I switch out of my regular formation and switch to - surprise, surprise - 4231. Love it or hate it, when set up accordingly, it can be a very defensive formation that allows you to completely snuff out your opponents attacks.

    4231

    CUSTOM TACTICS

    Defence

    Defensive Style: Balanced

    Width: 5

    Depth: 4

I don't sit super deep, nor do I use drop back, as that just invites pressure on to you and you can't get out of your own half. Remember - our opponent will be using constant pressure/team-press etc. so you can't be fucking around in your own half or you'll inevitably lose the ball and your opponent will just keep on hammering you. Again, this is bad.

    Offence

    Offensive Style: Long Ball

    Width: 7

    Players in the Box: 3

    Corners: 1

    Free Kicks: 1

I use long ball here, as when I nick the ball off my opponents, I want my CAM and ST making darting runs forward as an outlet for me. I often catch my opponent on the counter doing this, and then the game is completely sealed. I don't pass around the back or take it to the corner flag. I mean, it's probably smart to take it to the corner flag, and I should do that, but I just don't like it. If you want to do that, that's fine. Long ball will help you get there, I guess.

I put width at 7 so I can stretch my opponents and bomb down the wing on my counters. Again, if this suits your style, it would also help you get to the corner flag.

    PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS

If nothing is mentioned, it is because I leave it default

    LB/RB

    -- Stay back while attacking

    CDM

-- 2x Stay Back while attacking, Man Mark, Cover Center

    3x Cam

    -- Come back on Defence

    ST

    -- Stay Forward

I leave my Striker on Stay Forward as he is my outlet when I take the ball off my opponent. I need someone to pass to, (if the CAM are pinned in), so that I can take the ball into my opponents half and relieve the pressure. If I bring him back on defence, all I can do is punt the ball into empty space and my opponents attack recycles. We don't want that.

    HOLDING A LEAD SUMMARY

My set up here is nothing revolutionary. You can find this shit everywhere. I just put it up as per request.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    CHASING A GOAL

This is where it gets fun. I absolutely love this formation, and it's by far the most fun you can have in FIFA, imo. Hell, sometimes I whip it out minute 1 for the fuck of it in Rivals; or if I've identified that my opponent is crap.

You thought my 41212(2) or 4222 was aggressive? Wait till you try this bad-boy out.

    3421

    CUSTOM TACTICS

    Defence

Defensive Style: Press after Possession Loss

    Width: 4

    Depth: 6

This isn't a Hail-Mary balls to the wall defensive set up with everyone bombing forward and a super high depth, as I don't want to concede and just throw away any chance I had of coming back. I have, in the past, paused and turned Constant Pressure on, though, when the game is truly winding down. I also utilise Team-Press on the D-Pad when switching to this formation. There's YouTube tutorials out there telling you how best to use that feature.

    Offence

    Offensive Style: Balanced

    Width: 6

    Players in the Box: 6

    Corners: 3

    Free-Kicks: 3

I don't use Fast Build up or Long Ball here, as I have a lot of men forward and it seems I just get whistled for off-side all the time if I have those instructions; as they are usually just sitting around on the shoulder of the defender, as you will see when I go into player instructions. My opponent is usually in some sort of defensive set-up when I am chasing a goal, so I need my players to show for the ball still, rather than running into blind alleys - which I found was the case when using Fast Build up and Long Ball.

    PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS

    2x CM

-- Stay Back while Attacking, Stay on Edge of the box for cross, Cover Center

We already have enough players up top, we don't need any more. These dudes will just get in the way. I rather just have them stop my opponents counter.

    LM/RM

-- Come Back on Defence, Stay Wide, Get in Behind

Again, Like I said earlier, I don't want to be overly attacking and then just concede immediately. Come back on Defence just makes sure I don't get screwed when my opponent has the ball, as it will shift into a quasi 5ATB formation. I keep them wide to stretch my opponents. They make beautiful runs, also, with get in behind. They are usually not marked at all. Like. . completely, 100%, unmarked by the AI.

    LF/RF

-- Stay Central, Get in Behind

I don't leave these on stay forward, as I need them to show for the ball in midfield when I am building up my attack. They also allow me to catch my opponent on the counter by not sitting too deep in my opponents half to the point they aren't even on my screen.

    ST

    -- Completely Balanced

No instructions here. I just leave him to do his own thing and that's worked just fine for me. My LF and RF do most of the scoring, surprisingly.

    CHASING A GOAL SUMMARY

Like mentioned, I don't go stupid and completely gung-ho with this set up, as I just end up conceding and then the game is truly lost. It's still very attacking, but not to the point that I am overly vulnerable. With this set up, also, you can use it as a regular game plan. And it works just fine, imo. Obviously, it's not ultra-competitive. . but it's a nice chance of pace and good for a bit of fun.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    OVERALL SUMMARY

That concludes my series of guides. 41212(2), 4222, 4231 and 3421.

Each formation I use have their strengths and weaknesses, and imo, they either compliment or counter anything your opponent can throw at you. The guides will evolve as patches are released, and later on in the FIFA cycle I will post updated versions of each. (Or if something drastically changes that makes the guide irrelevant, I will also post an updated version.)

I know that I said in my initial post that I would be doing a 433(5) guide, but sadly, when I tried this formation, I crash and burned. Maybe it's me? I dunno. But I just couldn't get it to work very well, so abandoned it for the time being.

I hope the guides I have published continue to help you guys out. Remember, these guides won't suddenly turn you into a T200 player. They're just a platform to work off of, and one less thing, hopefully, for you to worry about.

Have fun. Don't be dicks to your opponents, and win games.

    Good luck!

TEAM USA RTG - WEEK 1 WEEKEND LEAGUE

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 11:40 AM PST

I did this last year and finished a penalty shootout short of elite 3. This year I'm determined to hit it in an American RTG. I got elite 3 in the first weekend league with a real team and got bored at 14 in the second one, so I elected to bring MOAR FREEDOM into my fifa and play as team USA. Please note that we actually rank like 48th in actually having freedom, which is even worse than our FIFA national team ranking.

In game team here. This time around, I was playing on hotel wifi (was up in Wisconsin doing election work so we don't turn into a fascist hellhole), so even though I had 8(!) disconnects and horrendous gameplay, I finished 18-12. 84 goals vs 55 conceded, 6 rage quits forced, and 5 clean sheets.

    TACTICS AND PLAY STYLE

Obviously, with a 75 rated squad you're playing at a massive talent disparity. You need to know your team well to make the team, as Martin Tyler says, "greater than the sum of its individual parts." The good news is the defense has a lot of pace between RB Opara and Long. Even the CDMs have decent pace. Shutting down counters is critical in FIFA and the USA actually sets up well to do that. The bad news is we have 1 decent attacker in Pulisic, and he's already well behind the power curve despite being the soccer lovechild of Maradona and Christ himself. There was also not much pace on the wings and only Nagbe and Puli could skill, so opportunistic countering and savvy possession was the way to go. Pulisic bout to go full Russ Westbrook.

I played a 4231, pressure on heavy touch 5/4, balanced 5/7/2/2. Offensively, I like to have the ball and make creative runs offensively with the occasional counter (really hard to counter with Jozy Altidore plodding along). Most goals come from quick 1-2s to create counters, creative runs, berbaspins/ croquetas in the box, and forcing turnovers in the opposition half. I can share highlights if y'all are interested to show you what I mean. Defensively, I play aggressive in the opponent's half with a lot of second man press leading to turnovers and easy opportunities. In my own half, I am much more patient.

If I was losing, I'd switch to 442 and bring Jordan Morris or Agudelo on for adams, slide Nagbe to CM, and throw on the team press.

If team pressed, I switched defense to balanced and offensive to a wider possession play. Team press is brutal to play against when your team is as bad as team USA (75 rated)

    PLAYER REVIEWS

Christian "MESSI AMERICA" Pulisic (CAM) – 37 goals, 13 assists. Our boy had a goal contribution for every one of the 50 states. He missed a ton of chances that he really should have hit, but the one competent attacking and creative player on the team certainly played like it.

Jose "SHERMAN TANK" Altidore (STRIKER) - 22 goals, 25 assists. I say Sherman Tank because the man was damn hard to get through, but couldn't turn worth a damn. Jose was an absolute machine in holding up play and waiting for creative runs, using every bit of his 61 passing to get assists. If Pulisic, Boyd, or Nagbe got in behind, he eventually got there for a tap in. He also took pens, which is where probably 10 of his goals came from.

Tyler "THE BOYD IN BLUE" Boyd (RM) – 8 goals, 7 assists. He and his blistering 85 pace linked up with Dest for many thru balls down the line. Had a couple nice runs off the wing against low blocks as well.

Darlington "NO SHOOT, ONLY PASS" Nagbe (LM) – 2 goals, 8 assists. I switch him to LM in game, but I am reconsidering that strategy for next weekend as he has low pace and abominable finishing (59). His 2 goals were tap ins, but his 4* skills were instrumental in picking up 8 assists.

Weston "F-150" McKennie (CDM) – 4 goals, 5 assists. My box to box CDM. Nothing flashy, just a big old truck who can get the job done and put the hurt on your Werners and Messis and 2 Pele's (how do people already have Peles?)

Tyler "GIVES YOU WIIINGS" Adams (CDM) – 1 goal, 3 assists. Stay back CDM on a shadow so he can do a zoomy and break down some counters. Occasionally would combine with Nagbe and Puli to break down drop back.

Sergino *"*DUTCH DYNASTY" Dest (RB) – 0 goals, 1 assist. Mostly used as a stay back defender, but occasionally would combine for 1-2s with Boyd. His 1 assist was critical. 4 star skills underutilized – good tip for next week.

Aaron "MY SCHLONG IS" Long (RCB) – O goals, 0 assists. Got roasted on the regular, but pace was good enough to slow most counters.

Rulebreakers Ike "DON'T TREAD ON ME" Opara (LCB) – 0 goals, 0 assists, 1543280571234 times chasing down through balls and strengthing Mbappes and Yedders and Jesus off the ball. Pace is the most important part of defending, and he's got it in spades.

Deandre "adama is kill" Yedlin (LB) – 0 goals, 0 assists. His job was to stop through balls and not fuck up. He did fine at that job.

Zach "THANKSGIVING TURKEY" Steffen (GK) – 5 clean sheets. Now you may think "wow, it must have really sucked to use a 75 rated goalkeeper. And you'd be right. But my man had some clutch saves once I realized that I'm better off manually moving him and guessing on shots.

Jordan "MEEP MEEP" Morris (SUB ST/LM) – 3 goals, 3 assists. Brought him in second halves of close contests – had quite a few clutch goals getting in behind. He's like a thicc roadrunner, threw Joe Gomez TO THE GROUND on an extra time game winner to clinch G2.

Juan "PRESENT" Agudelo (SUB ST) – 2 goals, 1 assist. He has 4* skills and 5* weak foot and decent agility, so I brought him in a couple different extra time sessions and he performed decently. He's also 68 rated, so very much a "break glass in case of emergency."

Kellyn "DOLLAR STORE ACUNA" Acosta (SUB CM) – 0 goals, 0 assists. He appeared when I was up a couple goals and got Mckennie or Adams carded. Overall forgettable, but has decent stats in all categories, so can use him anywhere in a pinch.

    OUTLOOK FOR NEXT WEEK

Uncle Sam has shined upon me this week, as we now add TWO 80+ rated Americans through MLS objectives. Aaron "MY SCHLONG IS" Long will be getting even longer with a pace and defense boost, now 82 rated. And Nick Lima, who I have never heard of because I'm not masochistic enough to watch MLS, is a very well rounded 83 rated LB with some pace. I'm actually going to slap a finisher on him and play him at STRIKER in game, because with the 79 finishing he'll be the second best finisher on the team.

I'll probably break out some 3-5-2 as well just to get more of my talented players on the pitch. McKennie is actually best suited as a CB, and this will allow me to get some offense out of the pace of Yeds and Dest.

If I'm able to get both those boys tonight, my goal will be at least Gold 1, especially now that I'm back in the land of wired connection. Thanks to any who read this far - I'll update on progress throughout the year.

The greatest FUT card in FIFA 21

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:13 PM PST

You might think I'm talking about Messi, Ronaldo, or Mbappe. Possibly even Gomez or Varane, the unsuspecting CBs. Not someone with pace like Traore or Davies. No, not even prime Ronaldo, Pepe, or Maradona. And I'm sure it isn't going to be one of the TOTY or TOTS players. I can say with full confidence that I know the absolute BEST card in FIFA 21.

    AC Milan - Goal Song

My god. Everything that I did in Ultimate team before I equipped the AC Milan goal song was pointless. I scored 7 on my division rivals opponent in my first game with it equipped. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can compare to the pure serotonin rush that comes on as soon as I score a goal, because I know exactly what comes next: Kernkraft 400. You cannot convince me otherwise that there is any other card in FIFA that comes even remotely close to the greatness of this card, not even IF Ben Yedder. I'm telling you, buy the AC Milan - Goal Song. You will literally never regret it.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 09:17 AM PST

I've gone from thinking this is the best Fifa we've had for years to wanting to quit entirely.

Playing Rivals today and the gameplay is so slow and delayed. It's impossible to left stick dribble and player switching wasn't working properly. I got elite a couple of weeks ago (first ever time) but honestly if It's like this this weekend I'll struggle to make gold.

Has anybody else noticed a similar change or do you think it's a problem my end? Either my internet or I'm imagining the whole thing?

    Help!
