First ever weekly Elite finish as a 37 year old playing FIFA like it’s 1999

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:48 PM PST

I don't really have any friends really into FUT. So I'm just gonna write it here: I'm so fucking happy!

It's been a goal for me for a while and I can't really pour the hours into the game to learn all skill moves and such (I think I made a step over in one of my early games Friday night...), since I'm an old fart having a job with a lot of responsibility and two kids and everything.

I'm so happy to prove to myself you can be good at this game without playing with 7 men behind the ball and just spamming through balls and skilll moves.

My wife saw how happy I was just now, after winning a really good game on pens to clinch that sweet No 23, and told me she was proud of me. Haha.

Elite! Awesome. I guess the next goal now is 25!

The worst part about ‘META’ players is that the majority of them are extremely average in real life

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 09:59 AM PST

Look, I can handle getting my arse handed to me by the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, and CR7. I have no problem with that - that's how the game should be. Defensively, players like Varane should be up there with the best (though the fact that he is essentially the best defender in the game is a joke).

What frustrates me the most, however, is when players like Joe Gomez are suddenly world beaters. Nick Pope is another that comes to mind, as well as the usual suspects: Adama, Saint-Maximin, and Rodrigo. The fact that some of the best players in the world continue to pick Pope over Alisson is testament to how distorted player ability is. I'm not pretending it's solely in this year's instalment that this is an issue, but it just feels like grinding for rewards to buy great players you want to use is pointless when your opponent can choose to use a 20k premier league team that will outmatch anyone 9/10.

I'm not blaming the player base for recognising and exploiting the ridiculous quality of these players in game, if they want to use the same cards as everyone else then that's fine. I just wish that EA could make a game where some of the greatest players in the world - Lewandowski for example - are more useable than whoever is chosen to be the next instalments Emenike or Doumbia. It's about balance, which is something EA have repeatedly shown themselves either too incompetent to resolve or too busy laughing themselves to the bank as is.

Edit: Nick Pope is a very good keeper, I take back throwing him in as 'extremely average.' But his card is 82 rated and he seems to play like he's an icon in disguise.

PSA: How to do the Beckham Free Kick objective easily (or any of the other ones)

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 01:37 PM PST

Couch play, connect a 2nd controller. Pick any game mode you want, maybe use some UCL La Liga players, sub on an MLS player for the other objectives. When you go to a pick an opponent just pick a terrible one, like a 1 star team from the Irish league. Then you can play against yourself, tackle yourself outside the box and move the keeper away. Good luck.

Controversial take: Skill moves have ruined this game

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:19 PM PST

I understand that many consider skilling the only viable way to produce the skill gap between average and elite tier players. But once you start playing at a high level (above 2k Div Rivals) it becomes an arcade game.

Do people not realize how insane it is to pull off a single elastico in a real-life game? Add the ability to use these moves with the click of a button along with a speed boost AND your defenders turning into a literal cone...it's so frustrating to try playing actual football as opposed to exploiting ridiculous mechanics.

IMO the game would be much more interesting if pros had to really play with unique and interesting tactics to win, rather than turning the game into a 4231 skill simulation around the box. Of course pros will find and exploit any tactic that works, I'd rather it be some form of passing and movement (like in real life) as opposed to FIFA Street.

Here are the correct objective for "Beckham's best"

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:37 AM PST

    • Assist 80 goals using Premier League player

    • Score 16 goals using UCL player

    • Score 13 goals using LaLiga player

    • Score 18 goal using MLS player

    • Score 5 direct freekicks in Squad Battles in any difficulty or Friendly vs a friend

    • Assist 5 goal with crosses

    • Score 10 goals from outside the box

Edit: While spamming goal in beginner SB for the assist I scored a freekick that counted in the end so this one might also be glitch

Edit 2: according to u/JesperHN you can do freekick in couch friendly with a 2nd controller. Gonna try in friendly game against a friend to see if it work.

Edit 3: FREEKICK CAN BE DONE VS A FRIEND IN FRIENDLY!!!!

Knowing nothing about football is advantage playing this game

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 07:04 PM PST

After playing FIFA 21 for a couple months, I realize the more you use your football brain to play this game, the harder it get. Let me list a few things to illustrate.

    1. At start of this game, I saw opponent running down the flank with Armada Traore. Thinking with me football brain, he has poor shooting and with tight angle, let me watch out not let him to cut in. Boom, far corner goal.
    2. When I attacking in above scenario, I'm thinking let me cut in to have better angle. Cut in, finesse shot, block by opponent. Now I always smash to far corner no matter how tight the angle is, although it still feels counter intuitive to me. But I score more goals.
    3. I'm watching my striker having a great run and wait for the best moment to pass that through ball. Ball passed and right into the keeper. After I learned from other players, I hit through pass at full power from my half without looking at anything, it's though on goal. Using what I learned from 1 above, far corner easy goal.

There's more to mention. But I genuinely think, for a person knowing nothing about the sport of football and play FIFA as a pure video game, he'll do better much easier than say a person know a lot about real football. You have to unlearn all the football knowledge to unleash your full potential.
