    Final Updates to the 352 Guide from an Elite 1 Player | Through Ball Spam Is Dead

    Summary

    This will be the third and final version of my 352 for FIFA 21.

    I really appreciate all the interactions I receive on these posts. Please continue asking me any questions you have. Here is the original post for FIFA 21. Here is the Mid-year update post.

    To absolutely no one's surprise, TOTS has brought us some pretty juiced cards. Along with these juiced cards, the meta of the game has shifted slightly to through balls down the wing from a LB/RB to a LM/RM in a 442. The 532 made a bit of a cameo appearance in the meta but is now more a fad than the meta. The true meta is still 442 with through balls.

    And, as always, this is not a meta-slave setup.

    Custom tactics and why you need at least 3 different setups

    Probably the biggest change to my 3 different setups is that not all of them are 352 anymore. Don't worry, the Standard Play and Come From Behind are still 352. However, when I'm up by a few goals late in the game, I've noticed that my opponents tend to turn the through ball spam slider up to the max. For this reason, my Hold The Lead setup is now a 451(2) for maximum wing protection. I have a fourth tactic for when I can't get anything going in 352. I'm not going to share those tactics because that is not why you're here.

    For those that are more visual learners (or just can't read, like me), here is a link to a visual walkthrough of my tactics.

    • Standard Play - 352
      • Defense
        • Style: Balanced
        • Width: 1
        • Depth: 5
      • Offense
        • Style: Fast Build Up or Long Ball -- Most teams have players that are fast enough to recover when they are pulled out of position. If this sounds like you, I would use Fast Build Up. If you use more technical players that are a bit slower, I would stick to Long Ball.
        • Width: 9
        • Players in Box: 5
        • Corners: 1
        • Free Kicks: 1
      • Instructions -- unless otherwise stated, all instructions are on the defaults
        • Strikers: Get In Behind, Stay Forward
        • CAM: Stay Forward, Conservative Interceptions
        • Wide Mids: Come Back On Defense, Get In Behind, Conservative Interceptions
        • CDMs: Cut Passing Lanes, Stay Back While Attacking, Cover Center
    • Come From Behind - 352
      • Defense
        • Style: Constant Pressure
        • Width: 2
        • Depth: 7
      • Offense
        • Style: Fast Build Up or Long Ball
        • Width: 9
        • Players in Box: 8
        • Corners: 1
        • Free Kicks 1
      • Instructions -- unless otherwise stated, all instructions are on the defaults
        • Same instructions as Standard Play
        • You can tell your CDMs to Get Forward if you'd like, but I no longer do that
    • Hold The Lead - 451(2)

    Player Archetypes for Each Position in My 352

    I'll give y'all 5 examples of players I would use at every position; some cheaper, some averagely priced, and some expensive options. Please keep in mind that these are not necessarily the best options nor the players that I use. These are just some examples of players that fit the role. There may be some overlap. I will not use any icons as examples.

    • Strikers
      • TOTS CR7, POTM (or better) Messi, TOTS Sancho, TOTS Rashford, TOTS Lewandowski
    • CAM
      • POTM (or Better) Messi, FBD Reus, TOTS Sancho, TOTS Neymar, FB Coutinho
    • Wide Mids
      • TOTY Davies, Moments Lazaro, TOTS Corona, FB Marcelo, TOTS Buendia
    • CDMs
      • TOTS De Jong, TOTY Kimmich, TOTS Goretzka, TOTY/TOTS Bruno, FB Mbabu
    • CBs
      • TOTS Tapsoba, TOTS Varane, FB Mbabu, TOTS Kessie, TOTS Hernandez
    • GK
      • Just use whatever keeper that gets you 100 chemistry. I used Gold Neuer on 5 chemistry for over 300 games back in November to December

    Chemistry Styles

    Rather than just telling you the specific chemistry styles I use on specific players, I'm going to tell you how I think about which chemistry style to add to my players. Futbin's chemistry style voting thing is not to be trusted. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Make your own choice.

    • Attackers
      • I want to have 95+ pace, 90+ finishing, and 95+ dribbling. Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice (like I do when I use Engine on my FBD Reus). In terms of priority, Dribbling>Finishing>Pace. Pace is the least important to me. Even if you have 99 pace and 99 dribbling, you will still move slightly slower when dribbling than a defender with 97 pace. Its just the way it is. I use Marksman on TOTS Sancho to add some strength and max out his dribbling.
    • Wide Mids
      • This is easy to explain. My goal at this stage is to have at least 85+ on each face stat after you apply the chemistry style. I use Finisher on TOTY Davies to boost his finishing and volleys (also applies to first time shots, not just balls in the air) and I use Gladiator on Moments Lazaro.
    • CDMs
      • I want to have 90+ pace, 90+ dribbling, 90+defending, and 90+ passing. In terms of a priority list, pace and defending are about equal, then dribbling, then passing. I use Shadow on TOTS De Jong and I use Backbone on FB Mbabu.
    • CBs
      • Its all about pace and defending, obviously. Shadows and Anchors with the occasional Sentinel and Backbone.

    My Play Style

    I'm not going to type out everything about the Triangles and the methodology for how I play. You can review this same section in the prior posts I've made on this subject. However, I have several gameplay clips that I'm going to link here that display different facets of my play style and why I do certain things the way I do.

    ​

    • Beating Through Ball Spam
      • For some reason, it is easier to intercept a through ball pass down the wing when your defender is coming from inside the pitch relative to the intended pass recipient. In this clip, you can see how I am able to be very aggressive in pressure the opponent's fullback because my outside CB cuts over my opponent's winger. Watch it a few times and pay attention to the mini-map. I still need to switch to the CB and manually intercept the pass, but the low width and cutting marking from the inside-out makes it much easier to make that interception. Of course its not a perfect solution. But you can definitely severely limit the effectiveness of the down-the-wing-through-ball with a low width. It's counterintuitive, but it works.
    • Why I now like left-footed players on the right at wide mid, and vice versa
      • TOTS means that everyone has juiced players. Even average cards are pretty pacey now. Because of this, getting in behind on the wing in the 352 is a bit different. Typically, when you've made it in behind, you're not in a great place for a power shot. You can take it, and likely win a corner, but that is about all you will get most of the time. That being said, often you're in a great position to take a finesse shot. Best case, goal. Worst case, back at a corner. In the linked clip, you can see that when Davies receives the ball in behind, he has a few options from that position. Lets pretend he was right footed for just a second; there is no way that he scores a cross body power shot from that angle. I could pass it off to another player; my opponent is marking the run into the box so I'd have to pass back and that would be a waste of the nice pass and run. But if my player is Left Footed with good finishing, I can take a chance at goal and worst case scenario I win a corner -- which is the best case scenario for a power shot from the same spot. Of course, there will be times when I will be in a better spot for a cross body shot, but I can always go near post in those scenarios .
    • A slowed down clip of how I defend proactively
      • You can see see in this clip that I do three things to block my opponent from moving into my box. First, I use my Tapsoba to manually mark the Creative Run that my opponent triggered on his Cruyff. He passes pack because he has no other option. Then, I see my opponent's next likely move: a pass in to Cruyff followed by either a Directional Nutmeg or a fake-shot-stop-la-croquetta-scoop turn-bullshit. To stop this, I intentionally back off my Tapsoba to guard against the directional nutmeg while also moving my Zambrotta up to the top of the box to guard against the turn into space. Result: my ball.
    • Here is a "full" gameplay against a 2400+ Skill Rating opponent
      • "Full" in quotes because I had to crop out the start of the game to fit within streamable's 10min limit for free use.
      • He ran a 442 with Cantona and Cruyff at striker and Barnes and Wama as wide mids. Late in the match he switched to a 352 with constant pressure and I exploited him for it.

    My Team

    POTM Messi and TOTS Tapsoba may be the two best value SBCs of the year.

    Seriously though. I mean I get the kid is good but he gets an awful lot of cards. He has already gotten two non-performance based cards this FIFA, first the Freeze card and then the FUTBirthday card. Even the TOTS card feels a bit forced from EA making him an SBC. Such event shows it could've been anyone else getting that card.

    Aouar was ranked on 76th place this past season based on match rating in Ligue 1 with an avg of 6.83.

    I just feel this fella is a bit favoured by EA year in and year out..

    I don't think investing any money in packs will make me a better player. The scariest teams to play in WL are the occasional Gold Rare teams with 83 rating.

    Three is no difference between 70 or 95 passing in game , I am certain of this. Through balls near the D are still overplayed 100% of the time. I really do think the player model is what makes them good not these 'fake stat' updates. It's not possible to have 91 rated midfielders going for fodder prices if the stats they supposedly had actually worked.

    New SB glitch discovered!

    Tested it at world class difficulty in 3 games, and the enemy hasn't been able to win the ball back from me yet. Pass from your goalkeeper to a CB, and hold/tape L2 and R1. Your player will continually roll the ball up to start the juggling animation, the CPU mostly backs off but will occasionally jockey you, and almost never wins the ball back, unless you roll your way into the attacking third, which usually doesn't happen for me til around the 90th minute. Enjoy!

    Idek, ever since like FIFA 19 the game just doesn't feel the same anymore? Maybe I'm getting older or maybe the game really did change. I just want it to feel like FIFA 17 or 18, not even the older iterations like 15 or earlier. I'm about to uninstall during TOTS which is usually the most fun time to play, but damn, nothing feels rewarding and it feels more pointless than ever.
